"Vivian?" Pannis peeked into the classroom. All the students had left, and only Vivian remained, sitting in the lectern chair, hunched over and doodling various symbols on the table with her finger.
"Vivian, Vivian?" Pannis called several times, but Vivian did not react, completely lost in her own world.
"Vivian!!!" Exasperated, Pannis walked to Vivian, and loudly yelled into her ear, "Wake up."
Vivian raised her head in a daze, took a glance at Pannis, and blurted out some random thoughts, "It seems that the crystals synthesized by the compression method can activate this array. All you need to do is to make a failed cut according to the One-ninth law before activating the array. Where’s my pen? I need to write this down."
Vivian quickly accepted the pen handed over by Pannis and unfurled the sleeves of her mage robe on the desk, scribbling rapidly.
"This doesn’t make sense." Suddenly, while in the midst of writing, Vivian slapped her hand on the table, "This should be written in Corinne magic text, no, wait, it should be in doubled-up writing."
"Sigh." Pannis sighed, remembering Catherine’s instruction from yesterday evening. He approached, picked up Vivian, hoisted her over his shoulder, and started to leave. Vivian, held aloft, seemed oblivious and continued drawing on Pannis’ head, treating it like a table.
Stepping out of the school building, several more students were bustling in the campus. They shot peculiar looks at Pannis carrying a person out, but when they saw who was sitting on Pannis’ shoulder, they all chuckled and scampered away, appearing to be quite used to such absurdities.
Pannis couldn’t take a public carriage with a person on his shoulder. So he had to walk home along the main street. Despite the city guards patrolling the streets, seeing that Vivian had no intention of resisting, they didn’t intervene. However, some dutiful patrolling members quietly followed to observe the duo and only turned away when Pannis returned to the mansion on Fox Street with Vivian.
Looking at the clock in the living room, Pannis calculated the time and tentatively headed toward the training field in the mansion’s backyard. As anticipated, he could hear Catherine’s counting from a distance.
"Catherine, We’re back." Pannis called from the edge of the training field.
Catherine turned around, chortling while pointing at Pannis and asked, "What are you doing holding her like that?"
Pannis was taken aback, "Isn’t this what you taught me? Carry her back if she gets lost in thought."
Catherine sighed in resignation, "You didn’t actually carry her all the way back like this, did you?"
"Yes." Pannis nodded, "Is there a problem?"
"It’s good luck that they didn’t take you away." Catherine muttered, then said, "All you needed to do was pick her up, take her out of her environment, and then lead her away. She’ll follow wherever you go — no need to carry her."
"Oh, Lord." Pannis rolled his eyes, and put down Vivian he had been carrying. Once on the ground, Vivian stood still. Finding that she had lost her "table", she continued writing on her sleeve using her arm for support. The sleeve of her blue mage robe on both arms had been filled with various densely packed symbols and writings.
"What terrible event happened today?" Catherine suddenly frowned.
"Nothing at all." Pannis asked, "What’s wrong?"
Catherine didn’t answer, she simply gestured to herself. Pannis got the hint and glanced down at a few burnt spots on his clothes and scratched his head stupidly, smiling at Vivian, "Oh, this, it was a small accident, haha, a tiny accident."
"I see." Catherine glared at Pannis, "What did you do during Vivian’s class? Did you make her use fire magic on you?"
"Hehe, hehe." Pannis continued with an awkward laugh, "What lovely weather we’re having today, haha, I’ll go and prepare lunch, you keep practicing."
"Wait." Catherine called out to the fleeing Pannis, "Take Vivian away and lead her back to the living room. Also, find her some paper. Don’t let her keep writing on her clothes."
"I feel like you’re confusing her with a pet or something." Pannis muttered as he pulled Vivian away. Just as Catherine had said, Vivian started walking behind Pannis naturally, writing as she walked along.

"Pannis, you’re back." As Pannis carried a tray out from the kitchen, Lina dashed out of the prayer room deep in the mansion. Smelling the aroma from a distance, she called out before she even got close, "I smelled something delicious all the way from the prayer room. What have you prepared for lunch?"
"Did you manage to buy everything you needed?" Pannis asked, setting the last dish on the dining table and wiping his hands clean with his apron.
"Wow, you really look like a professional cook." Lina gave a thumbs up to Pannis before running to her seat at the table, "I’ve bought everything I need. I’ll go to the temple in the afternoon for final guidance from the priest uncle, then we can depart tomorrow. Are you ready?"
"I don’t have much to prepare." Pannis also took a seat at the table. But no one touched their food, everyone simply sat and waited for the other two members to join, "For the three-day festival plus the journey back and forth, it will be five days in total. Two sets of clothes will be enough."
"Tsk tsk, men." Lina scoffed disdainfully, "Sloppy."
"Hey, stop generalizing so randomly." Pannis knocked on the table, complaining.
"Hehe." Lina covered her mouth to stifle a giggle, then hopped up and ran towards the backyard, "I’m starving. I’m going to see when Catherine will finish training. Ow, sis, you bumped into me."
"That’s what you get for not watching where you’re going." Catherine tapped Lina’s bumped forehead, "Hurts, doesn’t it?"
"Hey, Catherine, you finished training?" Lina, brushing off the aching forehead, rushed to Vivian who was sitting in the living room in a daze. She tapped Vivian’s soft cap, "Dummy, it’s mealtime."
"Oh, stop it. I’m almost done," Vivian waved her off like an annoying fly.
"By the time you finish, you’d starve," Lina intervened, covering Vivian’s eyes and stopping her from doing any more writing.
"Damn it, Lina! I’m gonna rip you!" Vivian bounced up from the chair, waving her fists in a mock fight with Lina.
"If you cause any more fuss, nobody is getting any food!" Catherine’s stern shout interrupted the girls’ playful fight, and they obediently went back to the table.
"Wow, fish soup!" When Pannis lifted the dish cover, the sparkle in Vivian’s eyes turned on instantly. "It smells divine, sister. Compared to you...ahh, never mind."
"There’s also beef stew and mint salad." Lina let out a cheer, too, hastily dishing out to everyone.
"What’s that?" Vivian pointed at a dish that was still covered.
"Dessert after the meal," Pannis casually lifted the lid, "Cherry cake."
"Huh." Lina seemed surprised, "How do you know cherry cake is her favorite? She never shares that with anyone."
"I heard it from a neighbor," Pannis replied, nonchalantly.
"Thank you," Catherine muttered her gratitude softly, "But why is today’s food so extravagant?"
Pannis replied, "Aren’t Lina and I supposed to leave for the Harvest Festival tomorrow?"
Upon hearing Pannis’s words, the spoon Vivian was using to sip her soup trembled slightly. After finishing her soup, she chuckled, "Ha, so you want to treat yourself well before you leave?"
Pannis answered with a straight face, "Of course not, it’s mainly because when Lina and I leave, you and Catherine will be left alone. You’ll have to eat Catherine’s cooking every day. I’m afraid you might get food poisoning. No, no, put down the knife, it’s dangerous. Forks are not okay either, drop it."
With jokes and laughter, the group quickly finished lunch. Vivian panted, "Oh, so full. It’s been a while since I ate so much."
"Ha, be careful, or you’ll turn into a big fatso." Lina, equally exhausted and leaning against the seat back, pointed at Vivian and chuckled, "Then even your students won’t recognize you." frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
"You meanie, Lina," Vivian gave a dismissive hums, stood up and said, "I won’t bother with you. I’m going to the lab to finish my calculations. I’m not cleaning up."
"She’s really not in a good mood after all." Watching Vivian hopping off to the basement, Catherine’s smile faded, whispering in sigh, "She still cares a lot."
Lina also sighed, resting her chin in her hand, "Yeah, looks like she’s going to be upset in the lab for a while. I wonder how we can help."
"What’s wrong?" Pannis seemed confused, "Isn’t she happy? I didn’t notice."
Catherine glared at Pannis, "What do you guys know about a girl’s feelings? She’s just pretending to be happy."
"Um," Pannis was left speechless and raised his hands in surrender, "Okay, I get it. But why is she unhappy?"
"Because she can’t attend the Harvest Festival," Lina explained to Pannis, "She really wanted to join us but since she’s busy with her lessons, she’s feeling down."
Pannis shrugged, "The Harvest Festival is once a year, isn’t it? She’ll have plenty of chances in the future."
"You don’t understand, Vivian..." Catherine took another sigh, "She..." Somewhat hesitant, she didn’t continue to explain to Pannis, instead she asked Lina, "Is there really no other way?"
"I’m afraid not, we can’t postpone the Harvest Festival." After racking her brain for a while, Lina shook her head, "Even if you take her there after her class, we won’t make it in time. It’s a day’s journey."
"Then we’ll have to wait until next time," Catherine sighed resignedly, dropping her head, "It’s okay, you guys go ahead with the Harvest Festival. I’ll stay with her more these days to comfort her. She’ll be okay."
"We owe you, Catherine." Lina gave an apologetic smile, "If it wasn’t for you, I don’t know where Vivian and I would be now."
"Haha." Catherine’s smile returned, "I’m used to it. I have to because you are all dimwits. That includes you, Pannis. Don’t pretend you didn’t hear it."
"What? How am I a dimwit?" Pointing at his own nose, Pannis was utterly baffled.
