Chapter 109: Chapter 109- Abroad!

That day, after Laurent and her daughter finished hanging the wind chimes, Laurent received a call from the trading company. They informed her that in a recent shipment, the customer had discovered that a hang tag was missing. This hang tag was crucial as it guaranteed the clothing’s material would not fade or discolor.

Laurent had no choice but to rush to the factory to investigate and resolve the issue.

After a thorough inspection from start to finish, she finally uncovered the root of the problem.

Since Laurent was relatively new to the company, the production plan for this shipment had been created by a former employee who had since resigned. Unfortunately, due to their carelessness, they had forgotten to include the instruction to attach the hang tag. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

As a result, the batch of hang tags provided by the customer, which served as the anti-fade guarantee, had been left unused in the materials department. No one had noticed why the tags were sitting there unused.

After identifying the cause, Laurent had an intense negotiation with the customer. Initially, the customer intended to file a substantial compensation claim since the error was on their end.

Through persistent persuasion, Laurent managed to convince the customer to allow her to hire workers on their side to reopen the packages and attach the tags. The labor costs for this task would be covered by their factory.

Compared to a full compensation claim on the entire order, this resolution was already quite an achievement for Laurent.

After wrapping up the negotiations, Laurent felt completely drained. It was this exhaustion that led her to vent to her parents upon returning home.

However, while Laurent’s words were merely a casual expression of her fatigue, her father, Dave, couldn’t remain calm after hearing them.

She’s going abroad?

Dave was stunned after hearing his daughter’s words.

He hadn’t forgotten that her parents had once wanted to send her abroad for further studies after she graduated from university. However, that plan had been shelved because she became pregnant and married him.

So now, is she planning to go abroad again?

Dave was so troubled that he lost the mood to drive. Luckily, he hadn’t entered the highway yet, so he simply pulled over to the roadside.

His current state of mind wasn’t suited for driving. For his and his daughter’s safety, he decided to take a break.

He turned around, intending to ask his daughter more about it, but then noticed that the little girl had already fallen asleep.

After being scolded by Laurent the last time, he now kept a light blanket in the car. He got out, retrieved it from the trunk, and gently covered the sleeping girl.

Then he stepped outside, lit a cigarette, and began smoking.

Right now, she was merely living in Burg Eltz, a small town far from here, and he already found it hard to see her.

If she went abroad, would he even get to see her at all?

And what about their daughter?

The little girl was still so young, at an age where she craved a sense of security and relied heavily on her mother.

If she went abroad and her daughter couldn’t see her for years on end, it would have a terrible impact on the child’s growth!

At this thought, Dave took a deep drag from his cigarette. Then he pulled out his phone and directly dialed her number, determined to talk to her about this.

In his mind, his stance was clear:

She. Must. Not. Go. Abroad!

However, his bold and determined demeanor vanished the moment the call connected, and her cold voice came through the line.

In the end, what Dave said was,

"I heard from Emma that you’re planning to study abroad?"

His tone was calm, without any hint of displeasure.

On the other end, Laurent initially thought he was calling because their daughter had forgotten something, as they had just left.

Hearing him ask about her plans to go abroad, she responded directly,

"What does that have to do with you?"

Dave was left speechless, utterly choked by her reply.

It took him a while to suppress his anger before he retorted,

"How does it not concern me? This affects our daughter’s emotional and mental growth! If you go abroad now, what about her? She relies on you so much!"

Laurent found him incredibly irritating. Whether she went abroad or not was her own business—why was he meddling?

Besides, his tone clearly signaled his opposition to her going abroad.

Not bothering to argue with him further, she responded lazily,

"Alright, I’ve heard your opinion. Feel free to express it, but I won’t be taking it into consideration."

And then she hung up.

Who did he think he was? Did he still believe he had the right to control her life?

Not to mention that her comment about going abroad was likely just something she said out of exhaustion, without really meaning it. Even if she truly intended to go abroad, she wouldn’t care about his opinion in the slightest.

In her mind, they had no relationship now—not even as friends. Why should she listen to him boss her around?

Dave was furious at her attitude but utterly powerless to do anything about it.

She constantly used the fact that they had no relationship to shut him down. He regretted it deeply—if he had known, he never would have signed the divorce papers. If they hadn’t divorced, no matter how much trouble she caused, he would still have the right to manage her decisions.

After smoking another cigarette outside, he finally managed to calm his frustration. Only then did he get back in the car and drive off.

When he dropped their daughter off at his mother Tiffany’s place, she suggested,

"Why don’t you rent me an apartment in the neighborhood near Emma’s kindergarten? That way, it’ll be more convenient for me to pick her up and drop her off. I can just walk there, and we won’t need to call a driver anymore."

Dave didn’t say much, but Lilian, puzzled, asked her mother,

"Mom, isn’t it fine for you to stay here? Why are you suddenly planning to move out?"

Tiffany replied,

"It’s mainly for the convenience of picking up and dropping off Emma. Besides, you’re an adult now, and you might start dating at any time. If you bring your boyfriend home, it wouldn’t be convenient for Emma and me to stay here."

"Mom! That’s way too forward-thinking, isn’t it?"

Lilian’s face turned red at her mother’s words. Wasn’t this essentially hinting that she might cohabit with a boyfriend in the future? But she didn’t even have a boyfriend yet!

Even if she did, she wasn’t the type to easily give herself away. How could things escalate to cohabitation so quickly?

Tiffany simply laughed and said,

"What’s the big deal? Isn’t that how most young people are nowadays?"

"Mom doesn’t object to you living together before marriage, but the person’s character and personality must be good—someone you can see yourself marrying."

Tiffany wasn’t a conservative woman, but she also believed that if a relationship was going to progress physically, it should be under the premise of discussing marriage.

As an unmarried young woman without even a boyfriend, Lilian couldn’t bear the topic and ran off with a flushed face.

What do I do? What do I do?

She now felt incredibly lonely and suddenly had a strong desire to find someone to date.
