You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 110- no regrets
Among her classmates and friends, almost everyone had a boyfriend. On weekends and holidays, they would pair up and go on dates.
Meanwhile, as a single woman, she would either go home to sleep or stay in, watching movies and snacking.
Whenever Valentine’s Day, Chinese Valentine’s Day, or "520 Confession Day" came around, her social media feed would be flooded with couples showing off their love, leaving her feeling utterly defeated.
This made her particularly eager to fall in love. However, being naturally conservative, she firmly believed that dating without the intention of marriage was just fooling around.
Yet, the consecutive marital failures of her parents and her brother Laurent—her closest family members—had left a deep scar on her heart. It made her fear love and marriage.
After all, even people who were married could divorce. Her parents, married for so many years, could still end their marriage. What meaning did love have? Did true love even exist?
Eventually, she thought, Maybe I should just become a lifelong single or an advocate for no marriage—live on my own for the rest of my life.
But then again, she felt, Wouldn’t it be a shame to go through life without ever experiencing love?
So, she came up with a compromise: Why not just have a relationship? After that, I can live the rest of my life alone, and at least I won’t have missed out on this part of life.
Since it would be a relationship without any future, she figured she needed to find a man who could keep things casual—someone who could take it and leave it.
In other words, a playboy who frequently changed girlfriends. That way, after their breakup, the other person wouldn’t get too attached.
Moreover, since she planned to have only one relationship before embracing singlehood, she felt she had to find an exceptional man—someone radiant and outstanding in every aspect. Only such a man could fulfill all her romantic fantasies, making it worth her while. After all, she had the looks and figure to match; it wouldn’t be a loss for her either.
Alone in her room, she thought it over for half the day, finally sorting out her future direction when it came to love.
Now, all that remained was to find the right man to have that one meaningful relationship with.
To find a man who radiated brilliance,
To experience a breathtaking romance,
And then,
Even if she spent the rest of her life alone, she would have no regrets.
On Monday, after work resumed, Laurent reported the weekend incident involving the customer’s compensation request to Samantha and Danny. She also explained how she had handled the situation.
Danny praised her efforts, saying she had saved the factory from a significant loss.
If the customer had demanded compensation for the entire order, the factory would have been in trouble. However, Laurent had negotiated with the customer, convincing them to hire local workers to reattach the tags, with the factory only covering the labor costs. Compared to compensating for the entire order, this labor expense was a minimal cost.
Danny complimented her repeatedly and reiterated that she should attend the upcoming trade show, reminding her to prepare thoroughly during the lead-up.
Laurent, motivated by his praise, returned to her office only to notice Maggie casting her a dissatisfied look.
Laurent gave her a gentle smile and said nothing, returning to her desk to continue her work.
She understood why Maggie was displeased. They had both joined the company as newcomers, but Laurent had worked hard, earning recognition from their boss. Maggie, on the other hand, was lazy and unproductive, struggling even with the most basic skills.
The gap between them had widened. Laurent had now earned the privilege of attending the trade show, while Maggie remained stuck at the starting line. It wasn’t surprising Maggie felt resentful.
Still, Laurent could empathize with Maggie’s mindset. As a fresh graduate, Maggie was at an age where she was more interested in having fun. How could she possibly be as focused on work as Laurent, who approached her career like a solitary monk, dedicating all her energy to it?
If Laurent had started working immediately after graduating, she might not have worked as hard as she did now. But her current efforts were fueled by a sense of desperation and the weight of past struggles.
Laurent decided that once this busy period was over, she would find an opportunity to invite Maggie to dinner, explain her circumstances, and try to ease the tension. After all, they were colleagues sharing the same office—they couldn’t afford to have a strained relationship.
At times, Laurent felt helpless. Some people, unwilling to put in effort themselves, couldn’t stand to see others striving. They lived aimlessly and wished for others to do the same, drifting through life without purpose.
Vivian’s son’s banquet was scheduled for Saturday evening.
The timing was deliberately chosen so that many of their working friends could attend.
Laurent had initially planned to arrive early in the morning to help Vivian prepare, but due to an unexpected issue at the factory, she didn’t make it until midday, taking a long-distance bus to get there.
A few days ago, her father had approached her with the idea of buying her a car. He thought it would make her late-night commutes safer and more convenient for visiting her daughter in Burg Eltz.
Laurent declined the offer.
She didn’t want to spend any more of her parents’ money. Buying a car was no small expense, after all. Besides, she genuinely enjoyed taking the bus to and from work. It gave her the opportunity to listen to English broadcasts and news, or to quietly reflect during her rides when life got overwhelming.
Driving, on the other hand, required full attention and left little room for multitasking.
As for visiting her daughter, when she felt energetic, she could take the long-distance bus. On less energetic days, she could simply take a cab to Burg Eltz. It wasn’t much different from driving herself, and there was no need to spend extra money on a car.
Because Zoey and Marylin were also coming back to attend the banquet, Laurent planned to stay overnight on Saturday to catch up with them. She had even booked a room in the same hotel as Zoey and Marylin to make it easier to spend time together.
