Chapter 116: Chapter 116- This wasn’t normal

Zoey looked at Marylin,

"So, are you saying you support Laurent getting back together with Dave?"

Marylin shrugged,

"Even if I don’t support it, there’s nothing I can do. A man like Dave is too proud. Once he falls in love, he won’t allow himself to be dismissed."

Many things are clearer from an outsider’s perspective. Since Marylin and Zoey were merely bystanders in Laurent’s relationship, they understood the situation more clearly than Laurent herself.

Zoey thought for a moment and agreed with Marylin’s words,

"That does seem to be the case."

Though they hadn’t had much direct interaction with Dave, it was enough to understand his way of handling things.

Marylin sighed again,

"You know, we used to be on Leonardo’s side, but now we’ve turned traitors. If Vivian found out, she’d probably strangle us."

Zoey smiled but didn’t respond.

The truth was, everyone knew that Laurent couldn’t easily let go of Dave. Now that Dave was trying to win her back, it was only a matter of time before they got back together.

But as the saying goes, "Three feet of ice doesn’t form in a single day." How Dave would try to win Laurent back was still uncertain.

However, there was someone who intentionally ignored all of this and insisted on pursuing Laurent.

Zoey couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for him.

He was their senior, a few years older than them, and had already reached the age of thirty, an age where one should be settling down with a woman.

What was the point of insisting on chasing after someone who wasn’t meant for him in the first place?

Was this how all men were—forever desiring the best that they couldn’t have?

Thanks to Dave’s confession, Laurent couldn’t sleep soundly that night. Several times, she woke up groggily, thinking that the things he said were just part of a dream. But when she opened her eyes and fully woke up, she realized it wasn’t a dream.

He really did say he wanted to pursue her.

He really did say he loved her.

But perhaps it was because he had always been high and mighty, or maybe it was because she had always loved him so humbly, that now, even when he said he loved her, she couldn’t feel any love from him.

This wasn’t normal.

Who says they love someone but the other person can’t feel the love?

So, she believed that they weren’t meant to continue entangled with each other. Perhaps they were never meant to be in a romantic relationship. It used to be that she was stubborn and didn’t see it, but now she had come to terms with it and no longer forced it.

Marylin and Zoey came to her room early the next morning. The little one was still asleep, and Laurent wasn’t in the best of spirits either. She sat on the bed, covered with the blanket, while Zoey and Marylin sat on the two wicker chairs across from her.

Marylin mentioned that she had eavesdropped on her conversation with Dave last night. Laurent, irritated, threw herself on the bed.

"Don’t even bring it up. I really think he’s seriously messed up."

"He’s never loved me all these years, and now, after the divorce, suddenly says he loves me—there’s no credibility in that at all."

Laurent vented to her two close friends.

"Do you know, when he said he loved me, all I felt was shock. I didn’t feel anything else. I didn’t even feel his love!"

Marylin raised her hand and ruffled Laurent’s messy hair, trying to comfort the frustrated woman.

"It’s not your fault. If you can’t feel his love, it only means he hasn’t done enough. He hasn’t truly given anything to you. Of course, you wouldn’t feel his love."

Laurent furrowed her brows, thinking about Marylin’s words. Indeed, after so many years with Dave, he had never made her feel loved. Everything had felt like something she had to fight for herself.

She even wondered if his so-called love for her was just because he couldn’t live without the care and attention she provided. Was it possible that he just wanted a woman available anytime, anywhere, to satisfy his needs, whenever he felt like it?

Zoey also spoke up from the side.

"Actually, from the beginning, your relationship was never normal.

Laurent and Marylin both turned to look at Zoey, signaling for her to continue because Zoey rarely gave her opinion, and when she did, it was always sharp.

Zoey calmly said, "If love were compared to a balance scale, then the situation between you two is that the scale is heavily tilted toward him. You both need to slowly find balance. Once you’re both at an equal position, only then will the relationship become normal."

"Maybe by then, you’ll be able to feel his love," Zoey finished with a somewhat shy smile.

"I’ve never been in love, so I don’t really understand these things. I’m just speaking from my own feelings."

"Balance?" Marylin sighed.

"Ah, Zoey, your analogy is so perfect. That’s how relationships work—only when both sides are equal, can there be a chance for a long-lasting bond."

Laurent pondered Zoey and Marylin’s words, but something didn’t feel right.

"You two have been on the same side as Vivian, supporting me and Leonardo. Why the sudden change?"

After Laurent asked, Marylin and Zoey exchanged a glance, then shrugged in unison, silently signaling their agreement with her question.

Before Laurent had a chance to protest, a knock came at the door, and to her surprise, it was Morrison’s voice from outside.

"Laurent, it’s Morrison."

Laurent was puzzled as to why Morrison would come to find her.

"What’s the matter?"

Morrison laughed from outside and replied, "Well, I have something to discuss with you."

Since he had come all the way to her door, she couldn’t avoid him, so she said, "Please wait a moment."

She hurriedly got out of bed, changed clothes, washed up, and tidied up before heading to open the door.

Since she had a guest, Marylin and Zoey decided to leave.

"We’ll go downstairs for breakfast and come back to find you later."

"Laurent?"

Before leaving, Marylin couldn’t help but make a remark about Morrison.

"Just hearing that title, you can tell he’s quite a flirt."

When Laurent opened the door, Marylin and Zoey headed out, and Marylin took one last look at Morrison. As expected, he looked like a playboy.
