Chapter 129: Chapter 129- move on

Laurent sneered at Dave.

"How could you possibly have only one child, Emma? When you remarry someone else, how could you not have children? So, why should I help you make a fool of myself for someone else?"

Moreover, she didn’t care about her daughter inheriting his wealth. What would a girl need so much money for? Like Marylin said, it would only scare men away from wanting to be with her.

After she finished speaking, Dave immediately gave her his assurance.

"I can promise you, I won’t have children with any other woman."

Actually, he wanted to say that if he were to have any, it would only be with her, but he was afraid of angering her, so he kept quiet.

Laurent snorted lightly, expressing that she didn’t believe him at all.

"I really can’t help you with this."

Seeing him refuse once again, this time she used the excuse that she was too busy with her own work.

"My own work is never finished, I don’t have the time to help you. You’d better ask someone else."

Dave reassured her,

"As long as you agree to help, I will talk to your factory director about it. I’m sure he’ll give me face."

His mention of speaking personally to Danny immediately hit a sensitive spot for Laurent. She had worked hard to get this job on her own, and if he went to talk to Danny, it would reveal their relationship. From then on, Danny might give her special treatment just because of his connection with Dave.

She wanted to earn the respect of others through her own efforts, not by relying on him.

If he went to talk to Danny, all of her efforts would have been meaningless. No one would see her hard work anymore; they would only see her as Dave’s ex-wife or the woman he was currently pursuing.

So, she exploded in anger.

"Dave, who do you think you are? Why do you think you can interfere with my work? I said I won’t help, so I won’t!"

She stood up, bypassed him, and stormed out angrily.

Dave raised a hand to rub his forehead, took his phone, and called Morrison.

"Find her again."

His tone betrayed his disappointment.

Although he had expected that she wouldn’t agree to help, being rejected so thoroughly still made him feel uncomfortable.

Morrison chuckled on the other end.

"You knew this would happen, so why bother in the first place?"

In truth, both of them knew that, given their abilities, even without Laurent’s help, they could still secure the project.

The reason they insisted on Laurent’s help was simply to satisfy Dave’s personal desires.

Taking advantage of this pretense of being a married couple, he could get closer to her and spend more time with her, trying to restore his image in her eyes.

Dave was already in a bad mood, and with Morrison gloating on the other end, he hung up the phone in frustration.

Laurent took a taxi home after leaving the restaurant. As soon as Alex saw her return, he hurried to greet her.

"Laurent, tomorrow’s the weekend. Since you’re not going to see Emma, how about meeting that boy your dad mentioned last time?"

A few days ago, her father had brought up the topic of blind dating. He mentioned that the person was the son of one of his former colleagues, working in a bank, with decent overall conditions.

Laurent had told her father to arrange it as he saw fit, saying that as long as her parents were happy, she was fine with it.

She hadn’t expected her father to act so quickly, arranging the meeting for this weekend.

Laurent poured herself a glass of water, drinking as she asked her father,

"Are you sure you’ve told him all about my situation? There’s no hiding anything, right?"

When her father had first mentioned the blind date, she had specifically instructed him to make sure the other party knew the full details—her divorce, her five-year marriage with her ex-husband, and her daughter who stayed with her ex-husband. If the man didn’t mind these things, then they could go ahead and meet.

She didn’t want to deceive anyone. She didn’t want to meet someone, develop a liking for them, and then have to explain that she was divorced with a child, causing unnecessary hurt.

Alex smiled and replied,

"Of course, I made everything clear. The guy said that as long as our personalities match and everything else is compatible, he doesn’t mind the past."

Laurent glanced at her father, whose face was full of anticipation, and nodded,

"Then I’ll meet him."

After all, it was just a meeting. It wasn’t like meeting someone meant they had to fall in love or start a relationship right away.

Alex, seeing that she had really agreed, was very pleased.

"Alright, I’ll finalize the details with him and let you know the time and place."

"Mm."

Laurent finished her water and went back to her room.

Cassy glanced at the closed door and whispered to Alex,

"Do you think she’s truly interested in this blind date?"

Alex sighed.

"Whether she’s interested or not, I’m doing this to push her to take that step. I want her to understand that Dave is a thing of the past and that she needs to start her own new life."

Laurent had never mentioned to her parents that Dave was trying to pursue her again, so they didn’t know he had come back. They were still worried that their daughter couldn’t move on.

Cassy didn’t say anything more, and Alex fell silent. The atmosphere between them became somewhat melancholic.

In fact, with their daughter’s tumultuous marriage, there had been many nights when the two of them lay awake, unable to sleep, sitting up and talking.

While they felt heartbroken for their daughter, they also worried about her future. Sometimes, they blamed themselves for not having been resolute enough to stop her from marrying Dave. They even wondered if they had done something wrong in their earlier lives, leading to this punishment for their daughter.
