Chapter 131: Chapter 131- What a coincidence, my foot!

If she could help, she would have readily agreed at once, instead of hesitating like she was now.

In most cases, when people are indecisive about making a decision, if they calm down and rethink it, the final decision is usually a no.

Just as Morrison was thinking of sending Dave a message, Laurent’s phone on the table suddenly rang. Morrison didn’t have a habit of snooping into other people’s privacy, but as luck would have it, when her phone rang, he happened to glance over and saw the message displayed on her screen.

It was probably from Alex, and it read:

"11 AM, Picasso Restaurant, Table 32 on the second floor. I’ve already spoken to the other party, just go directly and meet them."

Morrison couldn’t help but chuckle.

Clearly, this was a message about a blind date.

It seemed Dave, the ex-father-in-law, had already started looking for a new son-in-law for Laurent. Dave’s situation didn’t look good.

Morrison quickly grabbed his phone and started editing a message based on the details he just saw:

"11 AM, Picasso Restaurant, Table 32 on the second floor. Your dear Laurent’s blind date location."

He had just sent the message when Laurent returned from the restroom. Morrison quickly put his phone away and gave her a slightly guilty smile.

At first, Laurent really did feel conflicted and almost agreed to help Morrison. But after going to the restroom and having some time to calm down, she realized that agreeing would have been a mistake.

Agreeing to help and pretending to be a couple with Dave meant she would have to live under the same roof with him again, sharing meals and accommodations.

Except for not sleeping together, everything else would have to proceed like a normal married couple.

She would have to take care of his meals, clothes, and daily needs, making him coffee, cooking, and doing the laundry. For some reason, just thinking about returning to that life, where she had no self-identity, made her feel a deep sense of rejection and disgust.

She couldn’t even imagine what had gone wrong with her back then, to have devoted herself so wholeheartedly to him for five years.

So, after going to the restroom and coming back, her answer to Morrison was the same as Dave’s:

"Sorry, I can’t help with this."

She picked up her phone and saw the message from her father about the blind date she was supposed to attend later. Thinking about how she hadn’t really taken care of herself when she left earlier, she decided to excuse herself.

"I’ve got something to do, I’ll leave now."

Laurent thought about finding a hair salon, getting her hair washed and styled, and then going to the meeting. No matter what, she felt that dressing neatly and appropriately was a way of showing respect to both the other person and herself.

Dave had originally been waiting in the hotel for news from Morrison about meeting Laurent, but instead, he received a message from Morrison saying that Laurent was going on a blind date.

His first reaction was anger, so much so that he nearly rushed out to stop her immediately.

However, he eventually calmed down. Now, he had learned not to rush into confronting her or questioning her with anger whenever something happened. Instead, he had learned to take a step back, calm down, and think of a solution.

Over the years, they rarely fought. When they did argue, it was usually a silent cold war, never a loud confrontation. They rarely had conflicts because she was always unconditionally obedient to him.

Since she brought up divorce, their arguments had become more frequent, and each one was sharp and intense. It was then that he realized their previous lack of arguments was because she had been tolerating him.

For so many years, he had taken her tolerance for granted. Whenever there was a conflict, he was the one who would lose his temper.

Over time, he had grown accustomed to this, and in recent times, he had often lashed out at her. But she no longer tolerated him, and so their arguments had escalated.

After the recent constant bickering, he had come to a realization: in a relationship, if there are no arguments, one person has to yield.

Now, he had become the one who yields.

So, after calming down, he sent a message to Morrison:

"I’ll treat you to lunch at noon, same time and place."

He wanted to see what kind of man she was going to meet.

Morrison, on the other end, smiled knowingly after reading the message, put away his phone, and stood up to leave.

After getting her hair washed and styled at the salon, Laurent checked the time and realized it was almost 11 o’clock. She quickly took a taxi to the Picasso Restaurant her father had mentioned.

Following the server, she went up to the second floor and, from a distance, saw that someone was already sitting at the table marked 32. A young man, wearing glasses, looked polite.

After thanking the server, Laurent first adjusted her clothes and hair. Satisfied with her appearance, she took a step forward.

This was her first blind date, and whether or not she was truly interested, she couldn’t help but feel a little nervous.

Because of her nervousness, she wasn’t paying much attention to her surroundings and was focused solely on the direction of table 32.

As she was just about to reach the table, someone from a nearby table suddenly raised their hand and greeted her.

"Hey, Laurent!"

Laurent, entirely absorbed in her thoughts about the upcoming conversation at table 32, was startled by the sudden greeting from the person at the nearby table.

She quickly glanced over and saw Morrison, grinning, sitting at a table diagonally behind the 32nd table, with Dave, the person she least wanted to see, sitting across from him.

Laurent was instantly mortified, feeling a mixture of anger, annoyance, and embarrassment.

She had come for a blind date, and yet her ex-husband and his best friend were sitting right next to her—what was going on?

She stared at both of them, at a loss for words.

It was Morrison, however, who continued to smile brightly and spoke to her, "Laurent, what a coincidence, you’re here for a meal too?"

Laurent was so angry that she almost wanted to snap, "What a coincidence, my foot!" but as she turned, she met Dave’s gaze.

Unlike Morrison, Dave didn’t greet her or anything. He remained silent, simply staring at her intently.

Anyone who knew Dave knew that his gaze always carried a lot of meaning.

Especially in this situation, the way he was looking at her felt more irritating than Morrison’s over-the-top grin.

Laurent felt like cursing at him. His stare was like something out of a cheating scandal.

They were already divorced—there was nothing wrong with her going on a blind date, so why did he have to look at her with such eyes?!
