You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 138- He won
"Isn’t it because you spoiled him too much before? He probably thought you were just making a fuss about the divorce and didn’t take it seriously. But when he realized you meant it and actually left him, that’s when he panicked and is now desperately trying to win you back."
Laurent sighed in frustration.
"Let’s just eat. No more talking about him, or I’ll lose my appetite."
After dinner, Laurent told Adeline that she wanted to stay over for the night. Adeline was more than happy to have her and immediately grabbed fresh bedsheets and a duvet cover to change the guest room for her.
Eddie came home at around ten o’clock. Laurent and Adeline were just about to wash up and get ready for bed when he walked in. Taking a glance at Laurent, he then said to both of them,
"I saw a Bentley parked downstairs—really stands out. Could it be... Lord Washington’s?"
Adeline’s neighborhood was just an ordinary residential area, where luxury cars like Bentleys were rarely seen. So when Eddie noticed it while coming home, he couldn’t help but take a few extra glances.
However, it was too dark for him to make out the person inside. He could only vaguely see that someone was sitting in the car.
Eddie had heard a bit about Laurent and Dave’s situation from Adeline before, and now, knowing that Laurent was here, he wondered if that Bentley belonged to Dave—if he was waiting for her.
As soon as Eddie brought it up, Laurent suddenly recalled what Dave had told her before—that no matter how late she stayed at Adeline’s, he would come to pick her up. She immediately rushed to the window, lifted the curtain, and looked downstairs.
Sure enough, right across from Adeline’s building, there was a Bentley parked.
Perhaps the person in the car saw the curtain move because the door soon opened, and someone stepped out.
It was Dave.
Laurent was at a complete loss for words. Annoyed, she yanked the curtain shut with force.
He hadn’t contacted her all night, so she had assumed he’d forgotten about this. But no, he had been waiting downstairs the entire time.
She had no idea what he was so stubborn about. Adeline and Eddie were so in love—how could anything happen that he needed to worry about?
And after witnessing Adeline and Eddie’s affection for each other firsthand, she felt that Dave’s thinking was even more narrow-minded.
Adeline came in and asked,
"Is it him?"
"It is!"
Laurent gritted her teeth as she spoke. Adeline noticed her expression didn’t look good and asked with concern,
"What’s wrong? Did you two have a fight?"
Laurent couldn’t even begin to explain. How was she supposed to tell Adeline that Dave was so worried Eddie might do something inappropriate that he insisted she couldn’t stay here?
So she simply stepped away from the window and replied,
"It’s nothing. Just ignore him."
"He’s waiting for you, isn’t he? To take you home? Didn’t you tell him you were staying over?"
Adeline was puzzled by their behavior—one waiting downstairs, the other deciding to stay.
"If he wants to wait, let him wait!"
Laurent’s voice was clearly filled with frustration. It was obvious she didn’t want to discuss Dave any further, so Adeline dropped the subject.
"Alright, then get some rest. Don’t you have to meet a client with him tomorrow?"
With that, Adeline reminded her, then closed the door and left.
Laurent simply turned off the lights and lay down on the bed.
She hadn’t asked him to wait for her—if he wanted to, that was his own problem.
She closed her eyes, trying to force herself to sleep, but there wasn’t the slightest bit of drowsiness. Every time she shut her eyes, she couldn’t help but think of the way he had looked when he stepped out of the car just now.
From the next room, she could hear the faint murmurs of Adeline and Eddie talking. After a while, it seemed they had gone to bed as well. Then, Laurent started hearing soft, ragged breaths—followed by the rhythmic creaking of the bed hitting the wall.
She instantly sat up in bed, awkward and flustered.
Even though she had been married and had a child, had experienced love and passion before, the situation still made her uncomfortable.
And since she wasn’t the least bit sleepy to begin with, the sounds from the next room only became clearer.
Laurent suddenly remembered what Dave had told her before she got out of the car earlier—his deep, serious gaze as he emphasized that Adeline and Eddie were a couple in the heat of their romance, and that it wasn’t convenient for her to stay here.
At the time, she had dismissed his words, wondering what could possibly be so inconvenient.
Now, she finally understood.
It really was inconvenient.
Fine. He won.
She quickly got up and pulled back the curtain to glance downstairs. Dave’s car was still parked there.
Pressing her fingers against her forehead in exasperation, she realized for the first time just how stubborn he could be.
Sighing, she turned, grabbed her belongings, and quietly left the bedroom.
She tiptoed out of Adeline’s apartment, figuring she would send her a message later to let her know she had left. At this hour, it wouldn’t be appropriate to knock on their door just to say goodbye.
After hearing that from the next room, Laurent’s face remained flushed the entire time. By the time she opened the car door and sat inside, she was so embarrassed that she couldn’t even look Dave in the eye.
Dave took one glance at her expression and instantly understood everything. As he started the car, he let out a smug hum.
"See? I told you it wasn’t convenient for you to stay there. You even saw me earlier but still refused to come down."
By the time he finished speaking, his tone carried a hint of grievance—making it sound as if he were the one who had been wronged.
Laurent shot him a sharp glare, completely exasperated.
How was it that his mind immediately jumped to that kind of inconvenience? Wasn’t it because he was thinking about those things too?
And he was worried about her safety staying at Adeline’s? Please! She felt more unsafe living under the same roof as him !
Dave gave her an innocent look.
"What? Did I say something wrong again?"
He turned his gaze back to the road, focusing on driving, and then casually added,
"Isn’t that just how things are between grown men and women at night? It’s not like you haven’t experienced that kind of life before."
Just as he said this, the car slowed down at the entrance of the neighborhood.
Dave tilted his head slightly, casting her a deep, unreadable look.
To Laurent, that look was... utterly indecent.
Her anger flared.
"Shut up!"
"Just focus on driving!"
