You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 137-Not a good man.
Then, he gestured for Dave to speak, and Dave had no choice but to speak up.
"Linda, I’m Dave. A client of mine, whom I’m working with Morrison on a project, is coming to visit tomorrow, and I still need to discuss some details with him."
Morrison hung up the phone directly, hurriedly saying to Linda,
"Mom, you heard that, right? Dave needs to talk business with me. I’m leaving now!"
He turned around and left, not even glancing at the person arranged for the blind date.
Linda, furious, shouted at him from behind,
"Morrison, stop right there!"
Morrison turned around.
"Oh, I forgot to mention, I’ll be with a client for the next five days, no time!"
He said as he was already leaving the restaurant. Linda was livid but helpless, left to deal with the abandoned blind date by herself.
Morrison escaped, re-arranging the dinner location with Dave and heading to meet him.
When Dave mentioned that Laurent went to Adeline’s house for dinner, leaving him alone, Morrison immediately pointed out,
"You should’ve just gotten out of the car and followed her in to join the meal."
Dave replied,
"Not everyone has the thick skin you do."
Morrison protested unhappily,
"Come on, Washington’s young master, do you still have any shame? If you’re so concerned about your face, can you get Laurent back?"
Dave said nothing, lighting a cigarette and silently smoking.
After a moment of silence, Morrison suddenly asked him,
"What do you think of me?"
Dave, confused, squinted at him through the smoke, replying,
"What do you mean, like a good buddy? A good comrade?"
"I don’t mean those things... just..."
Morrison hesitated a bit,
"From a woman’s perspective, how would you evaluate me?"
Dave stared at him for a while, then exhaled a puff of smoke before speaking bluntly,
"Not a good man."
Morrison gave him a gloomy glance and spoke seriously,
"Alright, I got it!"
"What do you mean, you got it?"
Dave felt a bit confused,
"You know your own shortcomings, do you really need me to point them out?"
As for Morrison, Dave admitted that he was a good friend, but when it came to women, Dave really couldn’t agree with him.
Anyway, he would never approve of his daughter dating someone like Morrison in the future, but that was something for later.
Oh, and speaking of it, he still had his younger sister Lilian. He wouldn’t allow Lilian’s partner to be someone like that either. Lilian was simple and innocent, and Dave preferred her to find a man who was stable and responsible. He was afraid that someone too complicated wouldn’t be someone Lilian could handle.
When Laurent arrived at Adeline’s house, the whole room was filled with the aroma of food. Eddie had been cooking, and Laurent felt a bit embarrassed.
But Eddie smiled and said,
"You’re Adeline’s best friend. It’s only natural that I cook for you when you come to visit."
As he spoke, Eddie took off his apron.
"You two should eat. I’ve got some things to discuss with a friend."
Laurent was puzzled,
"Aren’t you eating with us?"
Adeline laughed from the side,
"He knows that the topic we’re going to discuss isn’t something he should be hearing, so he’s giving us space."
At that moment, Laurent truly felt that Adeline had found happiness after all her hardships.
Eddie’s thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and gentle care for Adeline, who had been tortured in her previous marriage, moved even Laurent.
After Eddie left, the two of them sat down to eat.
While praising Eddie’s cooking, Laurent also praised Eddie as a person,
"He’s really good to you. Seeing you so happy now, I’m starting to believe in love again."
Adeline’s eyes were filled with happiness that she couldn’t hide,
"I never thought at my age I’d fall in love again, and even less that a nearly thirty-year-old divorced woman like me would meet such a good man like Eddie. Sometimes, maybe it’s only when you let go of the past that you meet something better."
Adeline thought back to her previous marriage and couldn’t help but feel a wave of emotions.
When she first discovered that Grant had cheated on her, she was shocked, angry, and devastated.
But eventually, she calmed down and thought, for the sake of her daughter, maybe she should try to save the marriage. After all, no one really wants to divorce unless there’s no other choice. She didn’t want to give her daughter a broken home.
Adeline told Grant, "If you’re willing to come back, I’ll forgive you, and we can live a good life."
However, Grant remained stubborn and refused to cut ties with the woman outside. He even insisted that his relationship with the woman was because of love, not for her money.
Adeline finally gave up, angrily filing for divorce.
And Laurent knew all about the emotional journey Adeline had been through, which is why he was even more touched to see that Adeline had now found Eddie and was happy again.
Adeline also mentioned that she had already chosen a location for her nail salon. Eddie had helped her with the search—he was a businessman and was quite experienced in these matters. Once she finalized the lease, she would begin renovations, then open for business, and finally, she would have a small venture of her own.
Laurent was genuinely happy for Adeline, and the two of them continued chatting over their meal.
After discussing Adeline’s plans, the conversation shifted to Laurent. Adeline looked at Laurent, who was sitting across from her.
"Actually... I support you getting back together with Dave."
Laurent almost choked on her soup.
"You can’t be serious?"
"Do you remember what I said when you first told him you wanted a divorce?" Adeline asked.
"I said he might be dragging things out because he couldn’t bear to let go. Now that he wants you back, it proves I was right."
Laurent remained silent.
Adeline had indeed said that back then, but at the time, Laurent had been deeply hurt and had completely dismissed the idea.
"People aren’t heartless; emotions are inevitable," Adeline continued.
"You and Dave were together for over five years. How could he not have feelings for you? Especially when you’re such a wonderful person." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"But now, just seeing him annoys me. I don’t even want to talk to him, let alone reconcile," Laurent said, frowning.
"Besides, I can’t feel any love from him. His change in attitude happened too fast—it doesn’t feel real at all."
Thinking about how different Dave was before and after the divorce, Laurent still felt like she was dreaming.
Adeline chuckled.
