You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 15- Divorce? Good!
Through this incident, as well as the previous text message event, Laurent could deduce that Clark was a shrewd and calculating person, even though she had never had any direct contact with her.
The only time she had seen Clark’s face was in Dave’s wallet. It happened when Dave was drunk, and when she helped him, his wallet fell out. That was when she saw the photo.
In the photo, they were sweetly embracing each other. The man was tall and handsome, while the woman was gently clinging to his waist, nestled in his arms, looking delicate and fragile like a little bird.
It was also the only time she had seen Dave smile so kindly.
After hearing her words, Dave raised an eyebrow and looked at her.
"You mean to say she purposely invited me to that place?"
"I didn’t say that."
Laurent sneered and denied his words. She didn’t directly say that Clark had orchestrated everything; she had only asked him a few questions.
"Impossible!"
He firmly denied her words, then looked at her coldly, stating,
"She’s not like that!"
Laurent looked at the way he defended Clark and couldn’t help but laugh mockingly.
The fact that he emphasized that Clark wasn’t like that meant he was basically accusing her of lying.
Heh, in his eyes, Laurent was nothing more than a liar.
She no longer cared about his opinion of her, nor did she want to continue this conversation. She glanced at their daughter inside the car and calmly proposed,
"Then, can I take our daughter now?"
He furrowed his brows and glared at her.
"Explain what you meant by that just now!"
Laurent mocked him with a smile.
"Mr. Washington, you should hurry up and go meet your lover. Don’t keep her waiting."
She said "lover" with biting sarcasm, deliberately insulting Dave’s pride and making him want to strangle her.
After speaking, Laurent walked past him, opened the car door, and took their daughter out. What was the point of explaining more clearly? He didn’t believe her anyway.
She tossed his suit jacket back at him and, without looking at him again, walked in the opposite direction, holding their daughter, ready to take a taxi back to Adeline’s place.
Just as Dave was about to step forward to chase after her, his phone rang again. He glanced at the caller ID and, with no choice, gave up. He looked at the direction where the mother and daughter were heading, then hurriedly got into the car.
For some reason, after sitting in the car, as he watched through the rearview mirror, the sight of that woman holding their daughter and walking farther away made something deep inside him ache, making it hard for him to breathe.
Especially seeing their daughter, so limp and small in her arms, continuously looking toward his car. The disappointed and aggrieved look in her eyes, her forlorn yet understanding expression, not complaining or crying...
Laurent had only taken a few steps with their daughter when Dave’s phone rang again from behind. Without needing to think, she knew it was Clark, probably urging him again.
Laurent’s woman’s intuition told her that Clark must know that Dave came to pick up their daughter this afternoon. Clark also knew they were meeting, so he must have come up with some excuse to pull Dave away.
It seemed like Clark was crying on the phone. Heh, she had just cried in front of him, but Clark’s tears made him feel heartache, while he completely ignored her own tears. It was so clear who mattered to him and who didn’t.
As expected, a lover is a lover. A single tear from her could make him feel pain.
Laurent took a taxi with her daughter to Adeline’s place. Since Adeline hadn’t gotten off work yet, Laurent made a delicious dinner, full of color, aroma, and flavor.
At first, the meals were made for Dave. Back then, she believed that to win a man’s heart, she had to first win his stomach. So she spent all her time perfecting her cooking skills, cutting her fingers to the point of bleeding and getting oil burns on her hands. Eventually, she perfected her skills, and Dave, whenever he wasn’t busy with social events, would come home for dinner.
After their daughter was born, there was another person to care for, and naturally, Laurent became even more skilled.
After preparing dinner, Laurent set aside food for Adeline, who would return late. The mother and daughter sat down to eat together.
During the meal, Laurent felt uneasy. She was afraid her daughter would bring up the topic of her and Dave’s divorce again. She hadn’t figured out how to answer her yet. But to her surprise, her daughter didn’t bring it up at all. She was still as lively and chatty as always, telling Laurent about the fun things that happened at school.
Laurent had been worried that her daughter would mention the divorce, but now that she didn’t, she felt a pang of discomfort.
She didn’t believe her daughter had forgotten about the divorce. The little one probably noticed how downcast Laurent had been all evening and, being so thoughtful, chose not to mention it.
How could Laurent not feel upset in the face of such a perceptive and considerate daughter?
Every child is the apple of their mother’s eye, and every mother wants to give her child the most complete, warm, and happy family. But Laurent had brought her daughter into a single-parent family atmosphere...
She had shared her feelings of guilt towards her daughter with Adeline. Since Adeline had also gone through a divorce and had children, she could empathize and comforted Laurent. She told her that it wasn’t just her fault that their marriage had broken down. If Dave had put in even a little effort, they wouldn’t have ended up in this situation. Dave was also at fault, and Laurent didn’t need to blame herself so much.
Adeline also reassured her, saying that since things couldn’t go back to the way they were, she should harden her heart.
Laurent glanced at her daughter’s soft, tender face, then lowered her eyes and continued eating.
Yes, Adeline was right. The only choice now was to harden her heart.
She would fight for custody of her daughter. She would work hard to provide a good life for her, even if she had to do it on her own. Perhaps this was the only way she could make up for it now.
After dinner, Laurent washed the dishes in the kitchen. When she came out, she found her daughter had fallen asleep on the sofa. She was puzzled as to why her daughter was sleeping so early tonight, but still approached and gently carried her to the bedroom, laying her down on the bed.
Dave had gone to Clark’s place and wouldn’t be coming home tonight. Laurent planned to wait for Adeline to return from work to help look after her daughter, while she would go back and pack their clothes, officially separating from Dave.
After settling her daughter, Laurent returned to the living room and, after some thought, picked up the phone and called her parents’ house to inform them of her decision to divorce Dave.
Since things had already come to this point, she couldn’t keep it from her parents anymore. She also needed their support now.
Before her mother could say anything, Laurent heard her father’s loud voice from the other end of the phone.
"Divorce? Good! I’ve been saying for a long time that you should get out of that marriage. A man whose heart is not with you—what’s the point of holding on?"
