Chapter 166: Chapter 166- An unreal dream.

Laurent asked herself this question in her mind, but she didn’t know what kind of answer to give. She always felt that things between them weren’t quite normal, something was off, but she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was strange.

Perhaps it was best to just let things happen naturally.

The evening was filled with joy, and everyone had a good time.

After the dinner, since they had drunk a little, Dave called a driver to take the Browns back to their hotel. Out of courtesy, Dave also went with them.

After the Browns left, the little girl was tired and Laurent quickly gave her a bath and put her to bed. When she was coaxing her daughter to sleep, Laurent was so exhausted that she fell asleep right there, holding her daughter in her arms.

Having prepared such a big meal and spending the evening eating and drinking, it had already pushed her physical limits. So when the tiredness hit, she couldn’t control herself and drifted off to sleep.

When Dave came home, he saw this scene: she was sleeping soundly, holding her daughter in her arms.

The faces of the mother and daughter, so similar and so beautiful, caused a warm current to flow through his heart.

Actually, he had often seen this scene before. Sometimes when he worked late in his study and came back to their bedroom, he would find she wasn’t there and would know she had fallen asleep in their daughter’s room.

But before, he never felt that there was anything special about the sight of the two of them together. Now, however, he felt deeply moved.

Many things, he realized, could only be appreciated after experiencing loss, and now he understood how rare and precious such moments of beauty were.

He stood quietly at the door for a long time, then gently closed the door and walked out. There was still a mess to clean up in the dining room, so he rolled up his sleeves and began tidying up little by little.

After he finished cleaning the table and washing the dishes, he looked at the clock and saw it was almost midnight. He took a quick shower, then gently pushed open the door to her bedroom, careful not to make a sound as he got into bed and lay down behind her, pulling her into his arms.

At that moment, Dave felt a sense of fulfillment he had never experienced before, simply from being next to the two women he loved, both of them asleep.

However, with such warmth and softness in his arms, it was hard to resist the urge to do more.

But he couldn’t bring himself to disturb her after such a long day and night. So, he just held her, doing nothing, forcing himself to fall asleep with them through sheer willpower.

The next morning, when Laurent woke up, she could imagine how panicked she must have looked when she realized she was in his arms, asleep. Not only that, they were facing each other, and she was curled up in his embrace. His even breathing was right above her head, merging with hers.

If it weren’t for the fact that their daughter was still sleeping beside them, she would’ve kicked him out of the bed.

But of course, he was holding her so tightly that she couldn’t move at all. Laurent wasn’t sure if he was awake or not, so she lifted her hand to remove his large hand from her waist. Trying not to wake Emma, she spoke softly,

"I need to get up..."

He didn’t respond, so she pinched his arm, and he moved slightly, pulling her even closer into his embrace. His long leg even draped over hers.

"Let’s sleep a little longer."

Laurent resisted and started making excuses for herself.

"There’s still all the food from last night that I need to clean up, and I need to make breakfast for Emma."

Their daughter was with them now, and she needed to make sure Emma had breakfast before going to school.

Besides, after the Browns left last night, she had given Emma a bath and put her to sleep. By the time she got into bed herself, she hadn’t had time to clean up the mess from the dinner, and it would take her most of the morning just to clean everything up.

But then, in his low, languid voice, he said,

"I’ve already cleaned up the restaurant."

When Laurent heard that, her body stiffened for a moment, and she didn’t move for a while, still nestled in his arms.

She couldn’t imagine what he meant by saying he’d cleaned up. She never thought he would do such things. "The hands-off boss" was the perfect term for the old him.

She lay there in a daze for a while, then decided to get up again.

"I need to go make breakfast for Emma."

To her surprise, someone shamelessly blackmailed her.

"If you make breakfast for me too, I’ll let you go."

Dave said this because he thought she wouldn’t make him food, so he was using it as leverage. How could he let her and their daughter have a delicious breakfast while he was left starving?

Laurent thought he was incredibly childish, but in order to quickly escape his embrace, she had no choice but to agree,

"Alright, alright, I’ll make yours too."

If she didn’t get out of bed quickly, she feared she’d be taken advantage of again. She knew well how dangerous morning men could be.

Dave, hearing her agreement, stopped pressing her and let her go. He himself was feeling exhausted, as he hadn’t been able to sleep well last night, holding her in his arms all night long.

After Laurent left the bedroom, the first thing she did was go to the dining room. As expected, the table was clean and tidy. When she looked into the kitchen, the dishes and plates had been washed and neatly placed on the drying rack.

Laurent raised her hand to rub her forehead, feeling like it had all been a dream.

An unreal dream.

She felt that they couldn’t continue like this. She hoped the Browns’ trip would end soon, because if it went on much longer, things would spiral out of control.

When Dave and their daughter, Emma Washington, woke up, Laurent had already prepared a sumptuous and tempting breakfast. After the father and daughter washed up, they sat down at the table to eat, and it felt like everything had returned to the way it was before the divorce.

But everything was also different from how it was before the divorce. Although Laurent was still giving her best, her efforts were no longer ignored or overlooked. Now, someone actually appreciated her efforts.

After breakfast, Dave went to take Emma to school, and Laurent stayed at home to pack. Dave had arranged to take the Browns to a nearby reservoir for fishing for the next two days, and they would stay overnight at a resort in the area.

At first, Laurent strongly resisted his plan.

"Weren’t you saying it was in the suburbs? That’s pretty close. Why stay overnight?"

If they stayed at the resort, she and Dave would inevitably have to share a room again. The painful memory of their last time staying in the same room was still fresh in her mind, and now she was expected to stay with him again. Of course, she wasn’t willing.

Dave slowly explained,

"This trip is meant to be a relaxing getaway. If we go in the morning, fish for a while, and then rush back in the afternoon, how could it still be a relaxing trip?"

"Besides, fishing itself requires patience. If we’re rushing and thinking about traveling, there’s no fun in it."

He had a good argument, and Laurent had no choice but to compromise.

She figured it was only two days, and once it was over, she’d be free.

After Dave dropped Emma off at school, they both packed their bags and headed to the hotel to pick up the Browns.

Laurent noticed that the trunk was full of fishing gear, and she had no idea when he had prepared it. It seemed like he had planned ahead. She didn’t understand the appeal of fishing at all and couldn’t see what was so enjoyable about it.

After picking up the Browns, the four of them drove to the fishing destination. After checking into the resort and taking a short rest, they had a simple lunch at the resort before grabbing their equipment and heading out to fish.

Since this was a fishing resort, the fishing spots were very close to their lodging. It was just a short walk away.

As soon as Laurent arrived at the spot, she was captivated by the view. The mountains were lush and green, the water sparkling, and the air was fresh and clean. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind.

No wonder Dave had said they couldn’t rush. Once they arrived, it was hard to imagine wanting to leave.

The Browns were also thrilled by the stunning scenery, repeatedly praising Dave for choosing such a great spot.
