Chapter 173: Chapter 173- getting a divorce wasn’t a mistake

However, there wasn’t much time to deal with him now. After getting their luggage, they would head straight to the hotel, and after some rest, they would start preparing for the exhibition. So, she said,

"Alright, since it was your mistake, I’m hanging up."

As she was about to hang up the phone, Dave, on the other end, was angrily shouting her name,

"Laurent!"

Laurent was baffled by his outburst, but she could still hear him angrily questioning her,

"Didn’t you think to let me know you were on a business trip? What do you think I am to you, Dave?"

"I don’t see why I need to tell you I’m on a business trip."

Laurent found him unreasonable. Could he really be this upset over something like this?

"Didn’t we agree not to get involved anymore?"

They had no relationship anymore. There was no need for her to report every move to him. She had already made it clear to him that night—that it was just a normal interaction between a man and a woman.

Dave was on the verge of losing it, utterly frantic,

"Laurent, what do you think I am, Dave? You just sleep with me when you feel like it, and then kick me aside afterward?"

Laurent, "..."

She was the one who slept with him, and she didn’t feel wronged at all. How was it that now he seemed like the one who had been taken advantage of and couldn’t let it go?

Before she could say anything more, Dave angrily slammed the phone down.

Laurent was left confused.

Just as her luggage arrived, she grabbed it and left the airport with Samantha and Danny, heading for the hotel.

After Dave slammed the phone down, his secretary happened to knock and enter with some documents. She took a quick glance at her boss’s face, which looked quite grim, and hurriedly placed the documents down before quickly leaving.

She must have heard wrong just now, right? It seemed like Lord Washington was saying something about being slept with... How embarrassing...

For Laurent, it wasn’t so much that she no longer cared about Dave, but rather that she no longer placed much importance on love itself.

After going through so many ups and downs, she had gained a clearer understanding of herself and her future.

"Gratitude for pain allows growth."

This saying wasn’t without reason.

What occupied her mind the most now was how to do her job well. As for love, her life had already turned out this way. She had loved and lost, and there was nothing left to expect or fear. No matter how bad things got, it couldn’t be worse than what she had already gone through.

So, it was better to focus all her energy on work.

At her first exhibition, she was more nervous than anything else. When no one was around to see, she kept cheering herself on in silence.

She told herself, "Laurent, you’re the best." She told herself to improve just a little every day, to keep trying, trying, and trying again.

In such a setting, Danny was mostly out networking, so the exhibition booth was mainly handled by Samantha and Laurent. Samantha helped her a lot, guiding her step by step when there were things she didn’t understand or wasn’t good at.

Laurent was very grateful. Not long ago, when Maggie had been giving her a hard time, she had felt discouraged, wondering if she was truly a failure for not even getting along well with her coworkers.

If Maggie brought nothing but negative energy into her life, then Samantha was a source of pure positivity. Samantha made her realize that not everyone was eager to see others fail—Maggie was just an exception.

Since she was fully focused on the exhibition, Laurent completely forgot about the unpleasantness with Dave from when she had just gotten off the plane. She also didn’t think about reaching out to him, and for two days, Dave didn’t contact her either.

In the end, it was Dave who broke the stalemate. In the game of love, the one who cares more is always the first to compromise.

It was clear that Dave was the one who cared more now.

When Laurent received Dave’s call, she was out to dinner with Samantha, Danny, and a client. This client was someone Laurent had signed on her own that day.

Ironically, this client was also from Burg Eltz, named Matthew. He was in his early forties, running a fairly large trade company that exported apparel, textiles, shoes, and leather goods, such as bags, wallets, and belts.

Due to the bankruptcy of a factory they had been working with in the clothing sector, they came to the exhibition to find a new factory to cooperate with, and they happened to meet Laurent and her team.

After a day of comparing and selecting among various clothing manufacturers at the exhibition, they ultimately chose Laurent’s company. They appreciated Laurent’s meticulous and serious work attitude, and Laurent’s factory met their production requirements, so they confirmed her as their new partner.

Danny was very happy when he heard the news and insisted on hosting a dinner for Mr. Matthew and his team that evening. In the same circles in the foreign trade and clothing industries in Burg Eltz, Danny and Mr. Matthew knew each other, though they hadn’t had the chance to work together before.

This time, because of Laurent, Danny had secured Mr. Matthew as a client, so he invited Laurent to join the dinner. During the meal, Danny even announced that Mr. Matthew would now be his client, and for any orders from Mr. Matthew’s company, Laurent would earn a commission.

Laurent was over the moon with joy.

She excused herself to the bathroom and quietly shed a few tears alone. No one knew the excitement and happiness she felt at that moment. This was the result of all the hard work she had put in over the past few months.

Although Mr. Matthew and his team hadn’t placed an order yet, just confirming her and her factory as their new partner was a recognition of all her hard work.

What she cared about wasn’t how many orders Mr. Matthew would place in the future or how much commission she would earn. What mattered to her was the sense of accomplishment, the feeling of being recognized and validated, which filled her with confidence.

After the divorce, although she always appeared calm and indifferent on the outside, she was actually quite anxious inside. She had been trying hard to prove that getting a divorce wasn’t a mistake, trying to prove that she could live even better on her own after the divorce.
