Chapter 187: Chapter 187- captivating

Dave was waitingβ€”waiting for her to forget all the things he had done wrong, even waiting for her to forget him, Dave, entirely. πšπ—Ώπ—²πžπ°πšŽπ•“π§πš˜π˜ƒπ—²π₯.πœπš˜π•ž

He hoped that she would erase all memories of the coldness and hurt he had once inflicted on her.

Then, he would reappear in her life in a new light, allowing her to see only the best of himβ€”to feel only his kindness, his warmth.

Morrison said he was being stubborn, refusing to see the truth.

Was he?

He wasn’t sure.

Before everything fell apart between them, he had never realized that he was capable of thisβ€”of loving someone to this extent.

He had always believed that he didn’t love her.

But the longer they were apart, the clearer it became. Some love had already seeped into his bones, woven into the fabric of everyday life, too deep to ignore.

No one is incapable of living without another person. He could live without her.

Just not as comfortably, not as freelyβ€”not the way he used to.

When he saw her saying goodbye to his mother and walking toward the entrance of the restaurant where he stood, tension gripped his entire body in an instant. His heartbeat became erratic, pounding beyond his control.

He both longed for her to look at him, to say somethingβ€”anything, even just a simple greetingβ€”and at the same time, he feared it.

If she did acknowledge him, how should he respond? What could he say that wouldn’t make her recoil?

For a fleeting moment, he was utterly lost, thrown into a state of helpless disarray.

Of course, no matter how chaotic his emotions were, his exterior remained calm and composed.

But while his heart was in turmoil, she simply lowered her head and walked past him, as if he were nothing more than a stranger.

She didn’t look at him.

She didn’t say a word.

Like a soft, drifting cloud, she floated past him without leaving a trace.

Even though Dave had long expected that she might ignore him, when she truly walked by without even glancing at him, as if he were invisible, the blow still hit him hard.

So much so that Tiffany had to call his name several times before he snapped back to reality. She sighed, a little exasperated.

"Let’s go. We need to pick up Emma."

Only then did he respond with a brief acknowledgment and start walking away.

While Tiffany said goodbye to her friend, Dave stood to the side, smoking a cigarette, paying no attention to the girl who was trying to bid him farewell. At this moment, he couldn’t care less about social politeness.

Tiffany knew exactly what had caused his sudden shift in mood. She quickly wrapped up her conversation with her friend and dragged him toward the car.

Once inside, the mother and son drove toward Emma Washington’s kindergarten.

Tiffany wasted no time in reporting to him,

"I explained everything to her. I told her you were only here to pick me up. She said you have the right to pursue happiness."

Tiffany felt utterly frustrated.

How could fate be so cruel? They hadn’t seen each other in half a year, and yet they had to meet in a situation so prone to misunderstanding.

She felt uneasy about it.

If Laurent really misunderstood her son and thought even less of him because of this, wouldn’t she be the one responsible for ruining his chance at happiness?

"She makes it sound so easy!"

Dave’s voice carried a hint of gritted teeth, filled with frustration and resentment.

After saying that, he didn’t speak further, but Tiffany could tell that he was taking out his anger on the gas pedal.

By the time Laurent entered the restaurant, Vivian had already arrived. Since she was still breastfeeding, her figure remained round and soft.

As they ate, they chatted casually. Over the past six months, Laurent had frequently met up with Vivian and Adeline. Sometimes, when she visited her daughter, she would take her along to see Adeline or Vivian.

This time, she had come to deliver a gift to Matthew, and Vivian had invited her out since the New Year holiday was approaching. Vivian and her family would be heading back to Frank’s hometown for the celebrations, meaning they wouldn’t see each other for quite some time. They wanted to catch up before the break.

Laurent was dressed in a black coat with a gray scarf wrapped around her neck. Her hair was tied up high, making her look both stylish and warm. With her slender figure, no one would have guessed she had a nearly four-year-old daughter.

Vivian couldn’t help but exclaim,

"Laurent, you’re becoming more stunning by the day! You radiate confidence and beauty from the inside out. I swear, any man within a three-mile radius is bound to be completely mesmerized by you."

Vivian always had a flair for exaggeration and humor. Laurent laughed so hard her cheeks ached, then playfully teased back,

"Same goes for youβ€”you’re just as captivating."

Vivian shook her head dramatically.

"Not even close. You’re on your way to becoming a workplace goddess like Marylin and Zoeyβ€”elegant, alluring, and utterly untouchable. I still have a long way to go. Right now, at best, I’m just a decent dairy cow."

Laurent, having been through it herself, chuckled knowingly.

"But you have to admit, even as a ’dairy cow,’ you’re happy."

During the breastfeeding stage, making sure there was enough milk for the baby was a priority. No matter how much weight was gained, it was all done willingly and with love.

Since both Vivian and Frank were in the foreign trade businessβ€”just like Laurentβ€”she and Vivian always had plenty to talk about. And since they were both mothers, their conversations never ran out of topics.

By the time they finished their meal and stepped outside, the city lights had already illuminated the streets.

Both had driven separately, so as they walked toward the parking area, they spotted someone standing beside Laurent’s car from a distance.
