Chapter 191: Chapter 191- scheme

After returning home that evening, Laurent told her parents about her decision to switch jobs to Burg Eltz. Both Alex and Cassy expressed their support, but Laurent couldn’t help feeling a little sad.

"But once I go to Burg Eltz, I’ll be even farther away from you..."

In reality, Laurent knew that whatever decision she made, her parents would unconditionally support her, whether she stayed or left.

Cassy comforted her, saying, "One day, you’ll have to get married and leave us anyway. It’s not like you’re going far. We’re used to it."

"And besides, going to Burg Eltz will be good for Emma. After all, children need to see their mothers often."

Cassy tried to comfort her daughter by focusing on Emma, but after hearing her mother’s words, Laurent only felt more upset. It was a parent’s heart to give selflessly. Parents are always the ones who give the most.

They had let her make sacrifices for her daughter, but hadn’t they also been sacrificing for her as well?

When Laurent mentioned her decision to switch to Burg Eltz after the new year to Adeline, Adeline immediately responded, "You can stay in my old place. That way, you won’t have to rent a place when you get here."

Since Adeline had gotten together with Eddie, Eddie had bought a bigger house, saying it would be more convenient for the children to live with them in the future. They had a son and a daughter, so each of them would need their own room. That’s why Adeline’s previous house had been left vacant.

Since Eddie’s divorce, he had been traveling around, busy with business and work. Although he had the financial means to buy a home, he hadn’t settled down in any particular city yet.

No city, no woman, had made him want to settle down. As a man, he didn’t feel the need to buy a house for himself. Having a house without a woman didn’t hold much meaning for him. Going home only brought a sense of loneliness and emptiness.

Now, after reuniting with Adeline, falling in love, and enjoying their time together, Eddie was willing to settle down in this city and create a home with her. He wanted to provide her and their children with a happy, normal living environment, which is why he had proactively bought a large house.

Laurent thought Adeline’s suggestion was a good one.

"Sounds good, but I’ll pay you the rent at the normal rate."

Adeline’s house was just the right size, perfect for her to live in alone, with space for her daughter or her parents to visit occasionally. But Laurent didn’t want to live in Adeline’s house for free. Even though Adeline’s nail salon business was thriving and she didn’t need the rent money, Laurent still felt it was only right to pay her share.

Adeline laughed on the other end of the phone.

"I knew you’d say that. Alright, I’ll charge you the normal rent then."

She continued, "But I have to say, I’m much more at ease renting the house to you. If I rented it to someone else, who knows what kind of tenants I’d get. The house might end up looking completely ruined."

Laurent laughed as well.

"Looks like I have quite the connection with your house, having stayed there so many times."

The two of them chatted for a while longer about other topics, and then Adeline, upon hearing that Laurent was going to Burg Eltz tomorrow to pick up her daughter, suggested,

"My place is already vacant. Why don’t you stop by tomorrow to have a look? If you need to buy anything to furnish it, you can do that right away. You can move in after the New Year."

"Yeah, that works. I’m on break now, so I have plenty of time."

Laurent thought it would be a good opportunity to buy some clothes for her daughter and her parents. Over the past six months, her earnings had been pretty good. Although her base salary was low, the commissions were quite substantial. She figured she could use this Christmas to buy a few things for everyone.

The next day, Laurent drove early to Burg Eltz and arrived at Tiffany’s place. Since her daughter spent most of her time with Tiffany, Laurent was already familiar with the route by now.

After parking the car, she went straight up the stairs and knocked on Tiffany’s door. After a moment, someone came to answer. Laurent, initially smiling, froze when she saw who opened the door. Then, almost immediately, she blushed and looked away.

The person at the door was Dave, looking as though he had just woken up. He squinted at her expressionlessly, wearing only a pair of pajama bottoms, his bare chest visible. This unexpected sight caused Laurent to blush deeply.

However, Dave himself seemed completely unfazed. He glanced at her, opened the door, and then turned to walk back inside, heading straight for the guest bedroom.

Laurent stood there, unsure whether to go in or not, feeling a bit awkward. She was frustrated, thinking, *It’s so cold, doesn’t he feel chilly dressed like that? Even if the house is warm, he doesn’t need to come out half-dressed like that. It’s rude!*

"Laurent, you’re here," Tiffany’s voice broke through her thoughts as she came out of the kitchen. She glanced at her son’s retreating figure before explaining, "Oh, last night Emma insisted on having Dave read her a story and stay with her while she fell asleep. They stayed up quite late, so he ended up sleeping here."

"Come on in, Emma hasn’t woken up yet. I’ll go get her up."

Tiffany invited Laurent inside and then turned to head to the guest bedroom, where Emma had slept with Dave the night before.

Laurent had no choice but to step inside and close the door. Tiffany had mentioned that Emma was still asleep, and with all the morning routines—brushing up, having breakfast, getting dressed—it seemed like it would take quite a while before they could leave.

Laurent thought she’d mention to Tiffany that Emma could have breakfast first, and she could head over to Adeline’s place to get the keys to the house. That way, she could avoid being in the same room with Dave.

The plan was going perfectly, until the little girl in the bedroom started calling for her.

"Mom, Mom—"

Laurent had no choice but to respond.

"What’s wrong?"

"Mom, come help me get dressed—"

The little girl was whining coquettishly. Laurent remembered that Dave was also in that bedroom, so she could only lower her voice to comfort her daughter.

"Emma has grown up now. After the New Year, you’ll be four years old. You should learn to dress yourself, okay?"

The little girl protested, feeling wronged.

"Mom, I can’t put on this dress by myself."

Laurent had no choice but to say.

"Then let Lady Tiffany help you."

Since Tiffany was also in there, Laurent figured she could help her daughter get dressed. There was no way she was going into that bedroom—such an ambiguous place. She didn’t want to face Dave directly.

Tiffany’s voice came from the room.

"Sweetheart, come, let me help you get dressed."

The little girl threw a tantrum, refusing Tiffany’s help and insisting that Laurent dress her. Tiffany stepped out and sighed helplessly, looking at Laurent.

"She’s rolling around on the bed, but won’t let anyone dress her."

Laurent had no choice but to brace herself and enter. The moment the little girl saw her, she jumped up from the bed, cheering excitedly.

"Mom, Mom—"

Just now, her dad had promised that if she let Mom come in, she’d be rewarded with a pretty hair clip.
