Chapter 192: Chapter 192- tolerate

"Take off your pajamas, Mommy will put a dress on you."

Laurent was completely ignoring the man leaning against the headboard, still shirtless. He was always showing off his body—let him freeze, she couldn’t care less!

As she dressed her daughter, the man just kept staring at her silently.

Laurent was getting really annoyed. At this moment, she would’ve preferred if he said something instead of silently staring at her. It was driving her crazy!

She hastened to get her daughter dressed, but in her rush, the dress ended up on backwards. The little girl pouted and complained,

"Mom, what are you doing?"

Laurent felt like she was about to break into a sweat. Before she could say anything, she heard the man leaning against the headboard laugh lightly and slowly speak.

"What are you so nervous about?"

Then, she saw him sit up and stretch his hand out to help take the dress off her daughter and put it back on properly.

Laurent was also adjusting her daughter’s clothes, but as soon as his hand reached over, it covered hers. Laurent quickly pulled her hand back, glaring at him. He nonchalantly apologized.

"Sorry, I grabbed the wrong thing by mistake."

Laurent couldn’t stand the way he acted with such a deep, scheming demeanor. Ever since their encounter in the parking lot, he had been so calm and unhurried.

If he were shameless like before, it wouldn’t be a big deal—she could just refuse him outright.

But now, he never mentioned love, and instead, he was toying with her emotions. It felt like her heart was about to explode.

Laurent didn’t even remember how she managed to finish dressing her daughter. All she knew was that once the dress was on, she quickly picked her daughter up and hurried out of the bedroom, almost as if escaping.

Once in the living room, she tidied up her daughter’s clothes again. Then, she saw the man slowly walking out of the bedroom—this time, at least, he had put on a shirt.

The three of them had breakfast. Laurent stayed in the living room, and while waiting, she called Adeline to arrange a time to pick up the keys later. Originally, Laurent had planned to go to Adeline’s place to get the keys while her daughter was getting ready. But with all the fuss now, she decided to wait until her daughter finished breakfast and then take her there.

After finally getting her daughter all ready, Laurent hurriedly apologized to Tiffany and was about to leave with her daughter.

Just as they were about to head out, Dave, who had changed into his outdoor clothes, followed them out. Holding his coat and keys, he called after them.

"Wait a minute."

Laurent frowned at him, and her daughter explained from the side,

"Mom, Dad said he’s going to take me out to buy new clothes for the New Year."

Laurent politely declined,

"You don’t need to worry about the New Year clothes, I’ll take care of buying them."

Originally, Laurent had planned to buy her daughter new clothes today anyway. Since he was going to do it, she didn’t need to bother. Besides, there was no need to buy so many clothes for a child.

Dave gave her a faint glance,

"A family doesn’t need to keep things separate, but we’re not one right now. So, what you buy is yours, and what I buy is mine."

Then, he took the lead and walked out the door.

Laurent couldn’t help but feel that his words were dripping with bitterness.

Anyway, after six months of no contact, when they met again, he was still acting all sarcastic and passive-aggressive. Laurent couldn’t be bothered to deal with him. After bidding farewell to Tiffany, she took her daughter and left.

Downstairs, Dave was standing next to his car, smoking. Laurent walked over with her daughter.

"Why don’t you take her to buy clothes first? I’ll go handle something with a friend."

Since he insisted on buying clothes for their daughter and was so adamant about buying his own, she figured he could take her to buy them first. She would go meet Adeline and then pick up her daughter afterward.

He flicked the cigarette butt away and looked at her.

"Are you really this stingy? You won’t even give her the chance to spend time with her parents?"

"If you’ve forgotten how long it’s been since our daughter was with both of us, I can remind you—six months and twenty-eight days!"

His words left Laurent speechless. She couldn’t respond to him, let alone refuse.

Indeed, ever since things had soured between them, the three of them had never been together at the same time, and their daughter hadn’t spent any time with both of her parents.

Laurent thought that sometimes Dave could be really harsh, using words like that to hurt her.

In the end, she didn’t say a word. She resigned herself and went with Dave to the mall to buy clothes for their daughter.

The three of them took Laurent’s car to the mall. Dave insisted on riding in her car, and Laurent couldn’t understand what was going on with him. His car was much more spacious and had better performance, while hers was more suited for women. Given his height, it was definitely uncomfortable for him to sit in her car.

However, Laurent thought that it was actually fine to drive her car—once they were done shopping, she could just take her daughter and leave. So, she agreed.

Once they got in the car, Laurent drove, with her daughter in the backseat in a car seat, and Dave sitting in the front passenger seat. He was constantly rummaging through things.

Laurent couldn’t take it anymore and asked,

"What are you looking for?"

"It’s nothing, just looking around."

He answered nonchalantly, but his hands kept moving. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Laurent was furious.

Was he really just "looking around"? Didn’t he have any manners, casually rifling through someone else’s car storage compartments?

She had always been very clear about setting boundaries with him, treating him like a stranger. But in Dave’s mind, he had never treated her as a stranger. To him, she was always someone close—his own woman.

Even though she was incredibly angry, she felt helpless. She couldn’t exactly pull over and kick him out of the car, even though she really wanted to do so.

"Just bear with it," she told herself. If she had to deal with him like this for half a year, it was nothing she couldn’t tolerate.
