Chapter 221: Chapter 221- fate

Hmm, Tiffany might not know that her daughter didn’t need to let go a little, but rather, she had let go too much.

Tiffany quickly said to Laurent,

"You’ve stayed up all night, go home and get some rest. I can take care of things here."

"Mm."

Laurent nodded, then looked at Dave and reminded him,

"I’ll head back now. Don’t scratch your wound, okay?"

Dave didn’t say anything but lifted his eyes to look at her, his gaze deep and wistful. Laurent turned and ran out

Not for any other reason, but because that gaze was filled with such strong reluctance, sincere and heartfelt.

He couldn’t bear to let her go, but he knew she had stayed up all night and needed to rest.

Tiffany, who had witnessed the entire exchange between them, couldn’t help but smile after Laurent left.

"Actually, both of you care about each other."

Such eager eyes, such a shy expression, clearly, both of you were thinking of each other.

Tiffany couldn’t help but say with a hint of emotion,

"Just make sure to live well with each other. My biggest wish in this life is to see you and Lilian both find happiness."

Dave turned to look at his mother.

"What about you?"

"Don’t you want your own happiness?"

Tiffany didn’t expect her son, who was usually not very sensitive, to suddenly bring up this topic. She was momentarily stunned, then laughed.

"I’m already at an age where there’s no real talk of happiness."

"Your father has always been waiting for you. Just as you’ve always hoped Laurent would give me a chance to reconcile, your father is also waiting for you to give her a chance."

This was the first time in all these years that Dave spoke on behalf of Daniel.

If he hadn’t gone through the divorce with Laurent, if he hadn’t lost Laurent, he would never have spoken on Daniel’s behalf.

It was precisely because he had experienced the pain of loss firsthand that he could not bear to see his father live the rest of his life in such torment. That’s why he spoke up for him.

Before, he had always firmly stood by his mother’s side. He supported every decision she made. He knew his mother wanted to divorce his father, and when she decided to move out, he bought her a house without a second thought. He had even supported her when she refused to reconcile with his father. But now, it seemed he could understand Lilian’s frustration of being caught between her parents and feeling torn.

Tiffany was completely caught off guard by her son, who had always supported her, speaking on Daniel’s behalf. Her first reaction was anger.

"When did you start standing on his side?"

"Because I know all too well the pain of loss," Dave quietly explained to his mother.

Tiffany was stunned for a moment, then looked away.

"Now isn’t the time to talk about this. Take care of your injury."

And with that, she said no more.

Dave had to drop the topic. Though he had spoken on Daniel’s behalf, he still supported his mother in his heart. If his mother was determined not to forgive his father, he had nothing more to say.

Their daughter had already been sent to kindergarten, and after Laurent had returned to her place to rest, she drove to the station to pick up her parents.

Yesterday, when her parents heard that Dave had been stabbed by Clark while protecting her, they were very worried about him and wanted to visit. However, it was too chaotic yesterday, so Laurent suggested they come today.

After picking up her parents from the station, Laurent drove them to the hospital. Cassy asked with great concern,

"How is Dave’s health?"

Laurent, driving, answered his mother,

"Fortunately, the knife wound wasn’t deep. It didn’t hurt the chest cavity or any internal organs. He just needs some rest."

Cassy, placing a hand on her chest, finally sighed in relief,

"Thank God, thank God."

Alex had been silent all this time, but after hearing Laurent’s update that Dave was not seriously hurt, his expression visibly relaxed, and he seemed less tense.

For Alex, his feelings were rather complicated at the moment.

He had always disliked Dave. Later, when his daughter divorced Dave, Alex thought she had finally escaped from him. But now this happened, and Dave had stepped in to protect his daughter...

Alex was also a man, so he understood why a man would risk his life to protect a woman.

However, even though he now acknowledged that Dave loved his daughter, he had always disliked him. To suddenly change his stance was difficult, and it left Alex feeling very uncomfortable.

Cassy wasn’t as troubled as Alex. She had always hoped her daughter would reconcile with Dave, so she spoke to her daughter,

"After this, you should see how deeply Dave cares for you. Make sure to live a good life together from now on."

Laurent didn’t say anything.

Of course, she knew how much Dave cared for her. She didn’t say they shouldn’t live a good life together.

She just felt that if they were truly going to reconcile, it might be better to spend some time together first, as their current relationship was completely different from the five years of marriage.

During those five years, she had given everything, while Dave, high up and entitled, had simply enjoyed her efforts.

Now, things might require him to give more. Could he accept that?

Laurent brought her parents to the hospital, and just in time, Daniel and Tiffany were also there. Dave had been pretending to sleep to give the parents some private time together.

In reality, he was suffering, but fortunately, Laurent had arrived with her parents to rescue him.

The four adults exchanged some simple pleasantries. Laurent’s mother stepped forward to thank Dave, as after all, Dave had saved their daughter, and as parents, they felt they must express their gratitude.

Dave simply replied,

"It’s nothing. If she had been hurt, I would have felt it even more than you."

Alex had remained silent, unsure of what to say. After all, he figured Cassy had already conveyed all his thanks.

This damn kid really was favored by fate—he got hurt and yet won back his daughter’s heart.

Alex felt somewhat defeated, yet resigned to his fate.
