Chapter 224: Chapter 224- felt the same

On the day Dave was discharged from the hospital, Laurent went to pick him up. After packing his things, the two of them got in the car. Laurent intended to take him back to the Villas, but after getting in the car, Dave spoke up and gave an order.

"Take me to the office first."

Laurent frowned.

"Dave, you just got out of the hospital, and you want to go to the office? Don’t you care about your health?"

Dave was a bit helpless.

"There’s a meeting in the morning. It’s quite tricky."

In the past few days, due to his injury, the situation regarding a company attempting a hostile takeover of Washington had escalated. The company’s executives were having a meeting today to discuss countermeasures, and he had to attend.

Laurent glared at him, somewhat angrily.

"Even if it’s tricky, can’t you wait a little while? Money can’t be earned all at once, and no one is forcing you to make so much!"

Laurent knew he was a workaholic and thought that as soon as he was discharged, he would rush to the company to work and make money.

Actually, a long time ago, when their five-year marriage was still intact, Laurent had seen him so busy every day and felt deeply sorry for him. She had even brought it up, wanting him to slow down and not be so busy and tired.

But at that time, he didn’t care about her at all, and he certainly didn’t listen to what she said.

She was concerned about his health and cared for him, but he only thought she was being too controlling.

So later, she stopped insisting. Today, she didn’t want to say anything, fearing he would still not listen and think she was interfering too much. But since he had just been discharged, she couldn’t help but say something.

Dave gave a self-mocking smile.

"This isn’t about earning money or not. If this situation isn’t handled well, I’m afraid I won’t be able to make money in the future."

Laurent was confused.

"What do you mean?"

Dave explained.

"Someone is attempting a hostile takeover of Washington. If they succeed and become the largest shareholder, I’ll have to step down. At that point, I’ll be unemployed. You want me to make money, but I won’t even have the chance."

After hearing this, Laurent didn’t know why, but something inside her made her speak without thinking.

"So what? If you step down, I can still make money, can’t I?"

She had a good job at Matthew’s company now, with great benefits and commission. She believed she could bring in more clients in the future, and her income would be considerable.

As an international saleswoman, sometimes you didn’t necessarily need a huge number of clients. Sometimes, just one reliable big client could provide enough for a lifetime.

Besides, Laurent also believed that with Dave’s abilities, even if he lost Washington, he would still be able to rise again somewhere else.

For Laurent, being with Dave was never about his money or power. She just wanted him, just wanted to be with him, even if it was a simple and ordinary life. As long as they were together, she would be content.

Now, she still felt the same.

In the future, it would be the same.

She just wanted to be with him.

Laurent’s words, spoken without thinking, were enough to show her attitude. It was exactly these kinds of off-the-cuff, unfiltered remarks that revealed her true feelings.

Dave couldn’t help but smile, but more than that, he was touched.

He was moved by her saying she would take on the responsibility of earning money for the family, and even more so by the fact that she wouldn’t abandon him when he had nothing. He was touched by her loyalty and commitment.

Of course, he would never allow a day to come when he had nothing.

Laurent soon realized that her words were too ambiguous, too scary, too shocking. She quickly turned her head, trying to start the car.

"I’ll take you to the office."

Oh my god, what had she just said? What did she mean by saying she could earn money and support the family? Didn’t that imply that she would stay with him in the future? And that she would be loyal and never leave...

Laurent wanted to disappear. Her mind was in such turmoil that she couldn’t even start the car.

A large hand reached over and took hold of hers, wrapping her soft, slightly trembling hand in his palm, calming her nerves. Then, with a smile, he said,

"Now that you’ve said that, I suddenly really want to try what it feels like to do nothing and just stay at home while you support me."

Laurent felt even more embarrassed.

"Let go of me. Aren’t you still in a hurry to go to the office?"

She was already so awkward, yet he had to bring up such a topic. He must be doing it on purpose to make her feel even more uncomfortable.

As Laurent tried to shake off his hand, Dave tightened his grip. His deep and affectionate voice echoed in the quiet car.

"Thank you."

Dave didn’t say much more. A simple "thank you" was enough to express everything.

He knew she was shy, and he wouldn’t bring up what she had just said again. But in his heart, he was perfectly clear about her feelings. That was all that mattered.

Laurent drove Dave to Washington. Just as he was about to get out of the car, Laurent suddenly realized that his things were still in her car, so she asked him,

"What about your things?"

Dave glanced at her.

"Just leave them in your car for now. I’ll pick them up tonight."

Laurent: "..."

Wasn’t that implying he would be coming over for dinner again tonight?

In fact, when Dave decided to discharge himself, he had hinted to Laurent that he wanted to either move in with her or have her move back to the Villas, under the pretext that he was a newly recovered patient who needed someone to take care of him. He even mentioned how his daughter would love to live with them.

Laurent understood all the hints, but there was no way she could live together with him.

Maybe it was better to keep a certain distance and space, to talk and love from afar.

Dave got out of the car and went into the company, while Laurent drove back to her office to continue her work.
