Chapter 226: Chapter 226- I didn’t say that!

After dinner, Laurent was in the kitchen washing the dishes, while Dave stayed outside with their daughter. Taking advantage of Laurent not being around, he made a call to Morrison to ask if he should come up with an excuse to stay over at Laurent’s place tonight.

Recently, Dave had rarely confided in Morrison about his emotional matters. One reason was that he felt he had figured things out on his own and didn’t need Morrison’s advice anymore. The other reason was that Morrison had been in a strange mood lately, and Dave was worried he might give him bad advice.

However, tonight, Dave couldn’t decide whether or not to stay at Laurent’s, so he turned to Morrison for guidance.

Earlier, during dinner, they had discussed Dave’s past attitude toward their daughter, which had left Laurent feeling down. Dave feared that staying over would only make Laurent more upset. On the other hand, he didn’t want to leave either. How much he wished to spend time with her in the same room, even if they didn’t do anything—it was enough for him.

So, in his indecision, Dave called Morrison. After listening to his dilemma, Morrison angrily responded,

"Don’t stay over! You should give Laurent some space right now. After all, you’ve already done what you could for her, protecting her. She knows your intentions for sure."

"I’m telling you, this kind of woman shouldn’t be spoiled. The more you chase after her, the less she’ll care. Give her some time and space; maybe she’ll come back to you on her own."

Morrison suddenly stopped talking, and Dave waited for a long time without hearing anything further. He finally asked,

"What’s going on? Why aren’t you continuing?"

"You do whatever you want."

Morrison suddenly responded impatiently, then hung up the phone, leaving Dave confused.

On the other end of the line, Morrison was driving to meet a woman who had just asked for a breakup.

After hanging up with Dave, he found a side street and made a U-turn.

Just like he had told Dave earlier, women shouldn’t be spoiled or chased after. If you do that, they’ll become more and more impossible to handle.

So, he couldn’t go running after a woman who had used him and then discarded him.

How could he give such a clear piece of advice to Dave but not be able to figure it out for himself?

Fine, if she wanted to break up, then they would break up. After all, Morrison had never been short of women. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

But when she came crying, asking for him to take her back, he’d better not expect him to be there.

And he wouldn’t leave a place for her when he already had someone new by his side.

In the end, Dave stayed at Laurent’s place, and the reason was simple—his daughter wouldn’t let him leave.

Having not seen Dave for over a week, the little girl was particularly clingy. After her bath, she asked him to tell stories and stay with her until she fell asleep. By the time she was asleep, it was already quite late.

The daughter slept with Laurent in the master bedroom, while Laurent made up the guest room. She said to the person just coming out of the master bedroom,

"Why don’t you stay here tonight?"

Laurent hadn’t forgotten that Dave was still a patient just out of the hospital. It was late, and it would be unkind to kick him out. Plus, he couldn’t drive yet and would need a driver for transportation.

It was already so late, so Laurent thought it would be better not to make everyone go through the trouble.

Dave responded nonchalantly, then said seriously,

"I think I should stay here. Otherwise, who’s going to help me with my medicine?"

Then he walked toward the living room, leaving Laurent with a headache.

When Dave was discharged from the hospital, the doctor prescribed some topical ointments for his wounds and told him to continue applying them at home. According to the doctor’s instructions, this meant that as long as he hadn’t finished applying the ointment, he’d have to stay at her place every night.

When Laurent went to the living room, she found him already sitting there, shirt off, waiting for her to apply the medicine.

Reluctantly, Laurent walked over. She knew that for the past few days in the hospital, the nurses had been the ones to change his bandages and apply the ointment, and now it was her turn. She wasn’t quite sure how to feel about him sitting there in just his shirt.

She picked up the ointment from the table, checked the instructions, and sat down behind him to apply it.

As her soft fingers spread the cool ointment on Dave’s back, she gently asked, "Does it still hurt?"

But with every touch of her hands, every sound of her voice, every breath, Dave felt his body heat up. It had been so long since he had been this close to her.

After the ointment was applied, Laurent was pushed onto the sofa, pinned under his body, and his fiery kiss came crashing down on her. The air around them mixed with the cool scent of the ointment, but Laurent felt a wave of dizziness.

She wasn’t sure if it was from the kiss or the smell of the ointment.

When his lips and tongue moved to her collarbone, Laurent, still pushing him away, quickly said, "No, you’re still injured!"

Actually, Laurent didn’t even know what she had said. In any case, she just wanted to stop him from continuing with his actions.

However, her words did have an effect. Dave paused, lifted his head, and looked at her with his dark, brooding eyes, asking,

"Do you mean that once I’m healed, it’ll be okay?"

Laurent’s brain quickly reacted. She was about to deny it when, before she could say anything, he stood up from her and said,

"I got it. I’ll wait until I’m healed, then."

Laurent was infuriated.

"I didn’t say that!"

Dave’s smile was more cunning than a fox’s.

"You didn’t say it directly, but your words indirectly suggested that."

After saying that, he stood up and left.

"Get some rest. Good night."

Then, he walked into the guest room, and Laurent didn’t even have a chance to argue with him.

He really was good at twisting other people’s words. When did she ever imply that once he was healed, they could do that? All she wanted to emphasize was that he couldn’t do it right now because he was injured!

But now he was already gone. She couldn’t exactly follow him into the guest room and continue arguing about when they could do it. That would be too dangerous.

So, she could only fume as she went into the bathroom to wash up, then slammed the door shut and hugged her daughter to sleep.
