Chapter 227: Chapter 227- vacation

For Dave, things had almost gotten out of control earlier, but he knew he still had an injury. Although his body ached with desire, he understood that even if they did go ahead, it wouldn’t be satisfying. Just as she had mentioned that, he took advantage of the opening her words provided.

Anyway, he had been abstinent for over half a year, so a few more days didn’t matter. Once he healed, he would enjoy it fully.

For the next half month, Dave stayed at Laurent’s place every night, under the guise of needing her to help him apply his medicine. Although they didn’t do anything, Dave still felt satisfied.

During the day, they both focused on their own work. After work, if there were no social engagements, Laurent would pick up their daughter from Tiffany’s and bring her back. Their days were simple and peaceful.

The only downside was that for about half of this month, Laurent spent her evenings dining out—either working late, meeting clients for dinner, or sometimes shopping with Vivian or Adeline.

However, no matter what social engagements she had, Laurent always tried to come back early to help him with his medication.

She couldn’t avoid it either. As long as she was out, no later than ten o’clock, the phone would ring, and Dave would insist she come home quickly to help him with his medicine, or he would say he was going to sleep.

As for Dave’s mood over the past month and a half?

One could imagine: nothing but frustration, and yet he couldn’t say a word about it.

At first, Dave could tolerate it, thinking that since Laurent worked outside, she had her own social circle and obligations. However, as time went on, he felt like he was becoming a whiny woman.

He had social events too, and as the head of a company, his engagements were even more frequent. But in order to spend time at home with her, he tried to cancel as many as possible. However, after canceling so many, she became the busiest one. He would come home, full of enthusiasm, but it would only be him and their daughter.

What made it even worse was that one time Laurent seemed to have had a bit to drink. When Dave called several times to urge her, Laurent, irritated, said directly:

"Dave, why do you keep pushing me? Who do you think you are?"

And then she hung up the phone with a snap.

That "Who do you think you are?" left Dave choking on his words. He couldn’t sleep well that night, troubled by those words.

Because this remark hurt him so much, when Laurent returned later, he kept a cold face, refusing to speak to or acknowledge her.

Laurent was no longer the same Laurent she used to be. In the past, if he gave her the cold shoulder and they were at odds, she couldn’t stand it and would always be the one to initiate a conversation to smooth things over and break the ice.

But now, seeing him like this, Laurent couldn’t be bothered to deal with him. If he wanted to keep a cold face, so be it. She was also tired of it. While she was happily chatting with Vivian over dinner, he kept calling to rush her.

So, after helping him with his medicine, she got up to leave, but an irritated Dave yanked her back.

He held her tightly, kissed her passionately, and then, gripping her chin, demanded angrily:

"Who the hell am I?"

Laurent blinked innocently and smiled:

"You’re Dave, right? The lord of the Washington family, aren’t you?"

She certainly had the ability to annoy him, especially when it came to frustrating him.

Dave was thoroughly irritated. She knew exactly what answer he wanted, but she was deliberately teasing him. So, he lowered his head to kiss her again, and Laurent felt like her lips were about to swell from his kisses.

Finally, she had no choice but to say,

"You’re Emma’s dad."

Dave was about to choke on his frustration. His large hand around her waist was so tight it hurt. Laurent, with a playful smile, leaned closer to him, breathing softly in his ear,

"You are..."

Tempted by her, Dave unconsciously loosened his grip on her, and she whispered in his ear,

"You are a complete tyrant."

Then, she suddenly broke free from his embrace, giggling as she dashed into the bedroom.

After all the trouble, she still hadn’t given him the answer he wanted. Dave was so frustrated that he nearly wanted to break down her bedroom door and drag her out to punish her.

Dave realized that continuing like this wasn’t going to work. He needed to come up with a way to make himself legitimate.

Once he had the legitimacy, when he needed to manage her, she wouldn’t be able to retort, "Who do you think you are?"

After thinking for a while, he finally took out his phone and dialed someone.

Recently, Laurent had secured a major client for the company. This was her first client at Matthew’s company and one with a lot of potential. Matthew had been trying to get this client for a long time but hadn’t been able to close the deal. When Laurent joined the company, Matthew assigned her the task.

Laurent used all sorts of strategies and finally sealed the deal.

That day, Matthew called her into his office and said, in celebration of her success in securing this important client, he was giving her a reward: a few days off to relax and have fun, then come back and continue working hard for him.

Laurent was confused.

"Do all salespeople get such rewards after landing a major client?"

If that were the case, Matthew’s company would really have great benefits.

Matthew laughed.

"Of course not, but you’re different. This client was particularly tough, and you managed to close the deal. This vacation is your well-deserved reward."

Laurent felt that there was something off in Matthew’s words, so she politely declined his reward.

"There’s no need for a vacation. I just took my annual leave recently, and I don’t have anything troubling me that requires a break. I’d rather continue working."

But Matthew directly gave her an order.

"I’ve already informed HR, so there’s no need to refuse. Work today, and tomorrow you start your vacation."

Suddenly, Laurent remembered that when Dave was still in the hospital, he had mentioned wanting to travel with her. At that time, she had told him that since she had just joined the company, it was impossible for her to take extended time off for a trip.

Now, seeing Matthew trying to force the vacation on her, Laurent immediately understood everything. It seemed that Dave had found Matthew and arranged for him to give her time off.
