You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 23- where had she gone?
After Emma Washington, Laurent’s daughter, recovered from acute gastroenteritis after a week, that evening around 8 PM, Laurent was still waiting downstairs as usual to receive Tiffany, who would be bringing her daughter back.
Every time Tiffany took her daughter, she would always bring her back at 8 PM. If Emma was staying the night with Tiffany, she would call ahead to inform Laurent. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
However, this time, what Laurent ended up seeing was Dave, who drove Emma back. It had been a while since they last saw each other, not since the incident where Laurent splashed water on Dave’s face.
Every time Tiffany dropped Emma off, she would usually walk over to the car’s back door to lift her out of the car seat. But now, seeing Dave, Laurent simply stood still, unwilling to move.
She didn’t want to see him. If it weren’t for having to receive her daughter, she would have turned and walked away.
Dave parked the car and sat there for a moment. Through the car window, he silently looked at the woman standing outside in the night, her gaze deep and calm.
The cool night air wrapped around her as she stood there, arms crossed, wearing a mint-green cardigan—tall, slim, and with a cold, elegant air.
Under the dim light of the streetlamps, her face was slightly cold, her brows furrowed. When she saw that it was him, the intense disgust in her eyes was evident. She immediately turned her gaze away, no longer looking in his direction.
Dave was furious. For the past few days, he had been waiting, hoping she would be unable to hire a lawyer and, desperate, would come to him for reconciliation.
But after a whole week, he hadn’t received her plea for peace. Instead, he had received nothing but this look of disdain...
Suppressing his anger, he opened the car door and got out, then picked his daughter up from the back seat. Holding her in his arms, he walked towards her.
"Mommy—"
The little girl called out to Laurent from afar. Upon hearing her voice, Laurent had no choice but to turn back and forced a small smile for her.
"Sweetheart, you’re back!"
The little girl was innocent. Laurent wasn’t going to let their personal issues affect her.
She had thought that, once they were divorced, Dave would ignore their daughter, but it seemed that things weren’t as she had imagined. He hadn’t transferred his bad mood onto their daughter. In fact, their relationship seemed to have improved.
For example, just now, as he was holding their daughter in front of her, the little girl excitedly told her:
"Mommy, Daddy said he’s taking me to Japan the day after tomorrow, to Disneyland!"
The little girl’s sparkling eyes were full of anticipation, happiness, and excitement.
Looking at her daughter’s face, Laurent found herself unable to say anything against it.
As she bit her lip and fell silent, Dave took the opportunity to speak.
"I’ve booked the tickets for the day after tomorrow, for the three of us."
He glanced at her, and without waiting for her response, continued casually.
"If you don’t want to go, I’ll just take Emma alone."
Laurent was furious, her chest tightening with anger.
He really knew how to press her buttons. He knew she could never trust him to take their daughter on his own. After all, in the three years they’d been together, he had never taken care of their daughter by himself. Not only would he be clueless and flustered, but considering Emma had just recovered from acute gastroenteritis, there was no way she would let him take her alone.
And to top it off, it was Japan— a country where the cuisine mainly consists of raw and cold food.
As Laurent was trying to come up with a reason to stop him, Adeline, who was used to going for a run after dinner, returned. The books she wanted to read were all available, and the website was much more stable and updated faster than most novel sites, without any ads.
Seeing the three of them standing there, and with Laurent and Dave currently on the verge of divorce, Adeline felt it wasn’t appropriate to approach them, so she turned to go upstairs.
However, for some unknown reason, Dave, holding Emma, suddenly called out to her.
"Miss Adeline!"
Dave had learned everything about Laurent’s best friend from Marc, so he knew Adeline’s name.
Adeline had no choice but to stop, turning back to look at Dave.
He walked over, still holding Emma, and politely spoke.
"Could you please watch Emma for a while? I need to talk to Laurent."
Adeline looked at Laurent, silently asking for her permission.
Laurent, furious, stormed over and snapped.
"I have nothing to say to you! Give me my daughter, we’re going upstairs to rest!"
When had their talks ever ended well? Did he really expect to be yelled at or splashed with water again?
Dave glared at her, then shoved their daughter into Adeline’s arms. Grabbing Laurent’s wrist, he dragged her along.
"Hey—"
Caught off guard, Adeline had no choice but to catch Emma Washington. When she looked up again, the slender Laurent had already been dragged far away by the tall Dave.
Emma, who was in Adeline’s arms, asked nervously,
"Adeline Auntie, my daddy won’t hit my mommy, right?"
The little girl, seeing the ugly look on Dave’s face and Laurent’s rejection, immediately imagined many bad scenarios in her mind.
Adeline, hearing the question, almost wanted to laugh. She gently comforted the little girl,
"No, he won’t."
If those two really were to fight, it would probably be Laurent who would take the first swing.
Having been reassured by Adeline, the little girl relaxed, and obediently allowed Adeline to carry her upstairs.
Meanwhile, Laurent, who had been roughly dragged away by Dave, was absolutely furious. After they stopped at a quieter spot behind a flower bed, she yanked her arm out of his grasp.
"What are you doing! I have nothing to say to you!"
She turned around and tried to walk away.
But Dave wouldn’t let her leave so easily. He raised his hand and easily yanked her back, this time pressing her firmly into his embrace to prevent her from running away.
Laurent, stunned by his sudden action, was about to scold him, but before she could, he lowered his head and kissed her. His cold lips seized hers, biting down roughly.
His mouth carried the familiar scent of tobacco, but it was much stronger than usual, suggesting that he had been smoking a lot recently.
Laurent froze at the sudden kiss, but then the image of him with Clark flashed in her mind. She was both furious and upset, struggling against him, but he reached out and tightly gripped the back of her head, rendering her motionless. Despite this, she refused to back down, pushing and kicking him with her hands and feet.
His kiss was anything but gentle—rough and forceful, biting her lips and tangling with her tongue, as though he were punishing her for all the turmoil she had caused these past days. It didn’t take long for Laurent’s tongue to go numb, her lips swelling with pain.
His fierce kiss met with her resistance, and after it ended, they were both more exhausted than if they had fought. Laurent was out of breath, while he gazed at her with deep, intense eyes, raising his hand to wipe his lips.
That’s right. Just now, Laurent had taken the opportunity to bite him, and that was when he finally let her go.
Laurent raised her hand, wiping her lips harshly, a cold sneer on her face as she said,
"Lord Washington, if you have needs, go find your beloved to solve them. There’s no need to humiliate me like this."
Dave’s mood had lightened a little, but the moment she mentioned Clark again, using that mocking tone, his face immediately darkened.
"What are you saying?"
"You know exactly what I mean!"
Laurent took a step back, trying to distance herself from him.
"Please, from now on, don’t touch me with those filthy hands that have been on other women."
Dave had never been called "filthy" in his life, nor had anyone ever treated him with such disdain—constantly rejecting, insulting, and even physically confronting him.
Her ruthless words trampled his once lofty pride, and his ego took a heavy blow. His eyes narrowed dangerously as he stared at her.
"Do you think I’m filthy? Then why, when you knew I had another woman in my heart, did you still crawl into my bed?"
Laurent’s eyes turned red, and she bit her lip tightly.
She wasn’t as despicable as he claimed. When a man and a woman have a relationship, isn’t it the woman’s choice too?
That night, he had been heartbroken over Clark and drunk. She had kindly taken care of him, and everything that happened afterward was probably because of alcohol, and she had half-heartedly gone along with it.
The next day, he assumed she had intentionally seduced him into bed. When she became pregnant afterward, he only further believed that she had impure motives.
But if it came down to who was right and who was wrong, that night, it was him who kissed her first while drunk, not as he had claimed, that she had "climbed into his bed" intentionally!
However, by now, she no longer cared to explain. She turned and walked away.
She had tried to explain before, but he didn’t believe her. At that time, Daniel had insisted that he marry her, but he had been unwilling. So he firmly believed that the night they slept together, and her subsequent pregnancy, were all part of a plan to force him into marrying her.
Hah, if she really had that many schemes, she wouldn’t have ended up in such a miserable, awkward situation now.
Dave watched her turn and walk away again. He quickly stepped forward to block her path. He didn’t know what was going on with them. Every time they met, they wanted to talk things through, but it always ended in a fight.
Where had the gentle Laurent gone—the one who never had any temper? Where was the Laurent who used to listen to him in everything? Where was the Laurent who obeyed him in everything?
That... the Laurent who loved to laugh and joke—where had she gone?
Where had the Laurent who once vowed to love him gone?
Now, she felt so unfamiliar to him, especially with her sarcastic tone and the blatant disdain in her eyes...
In the end, he still suppressed the strange and unpleasant feelings in his heart and spoke calmly:
"I’m giving you one day to think about whether you want to come with us to Japan."
The truth was, he had pulled her over to talk, hoping to convince her to join him and their daughter at Disney.
He didn’t even know why he felt the need to persuade her to go. He knew full well that whenever they met, just a few words would lead to a fight.
"I’ll go!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Laurent looked up without any hesitation and agreed.
