You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 230- pleading look
Vivian returned from the restroom, unaware of the slightly odd atmosphere between the two. The three of them continued their meal.
After dinner, Vivian expressed her gratitude to Dave for treating them to a big meal and then found an excuse to leave, allowing Dave and Laurent to go shopping together.
Vivian wasn’t the type of person who lacked awareness. Initially, she had agreed to accompany Laurent for shopping, thinking that Dave, with his strong masculinity, wouldn’t join her. Now that he was there, and clearly in the mood of a disgruntled husband, she figured there was no need to stay and play the role of a giant third wheel.
So, Laurent had no choice but to shop with Dave. During the day at the office, she had made a shopping list during her spare time, so she could just follow it for now.
Since they were heading to a tropical destination, swimwear was a must.
Laurent used to have swimwear, but now that she had slimmed down, it probably wouldn’t fit her anymore. So, she decided to buy a few new sets to bring along.
After they picked out a few swimsuits together, Dave was not okay.
His mind was consumed with thoughts of what she would look like wearing those swimsuits. Laurent didn’t like brightly colored patterns, so she chose simple, solid-colored swimsuits with very basic and modest styles. Although Dave didn’t voice any opinions, he silently hoped that the swimsuits she picked would be as modest as possible.
But no matter how modest they were, just thinking about her wearing those swimsuits, imagining her pale, slender, yet incredibly soft figure, made him unable to stop his wild thoughts.
It had been a long time, and his injury had completely healed. Over the past few days, he had been looking for an opportunity to take her, but he hadn’t found the right moment.
So, that night, while they were shopping for other things, he was a bit distracted. Several times Laurent had asked for his opinion, but his responses were very perfunctory, which irritated Laurent. She thought he was just being impatient, and after tolerating it for a while, she finally exploded.
"Dave, what kind of attitude is this? If you don’t want to shop, then don’t come! I never forced you to come, did I?"
She had originally planned to go shopping with Vivian, and the two of them would have had a great time. But he insisted on coming along, and then Vivian, being considerate, left.
Now, he was acting impatient again. Wasn’t this just to deliberately irritate her?
Laurent wasn’t usually a hot-tempered person, but Dave’s behavior was really getting on her nerves.
Dave, feeling innocent, tried to explain. He really wasn’t impatient. Could he say that every time she spoke to him, all he could think about was how to get her into bed, and that’s why he wasn’t paying attention?
Of course, he couldn’t say that. If he did, she would probably be even angrier.
So he had no choice but to apologize, giving her a helpless smile.
"I’m really not impatient, I just accidentally started thinking about something else, so I didn’t catch what you asked me."
"You’re really making excuses, aren’t you? What were you thinking? Tell me," Laurent said, crossing her arms and standing there, demanding to know. She was convinced he was lying and just didn’t want to go shopping with her, and she was determined to expose him.
Her question made Dave smile, but now his smile carried a more mischievous intent. He bent down and leaned close to her ear, whispering,
"You want to know what I was thinking? I’ll tell you when we get home tonight."
His tone was already suggestive enough, but after saying that, he tilted his head and kissed the corner of her lips. This was in a crowded public shopping mall, and Laurent was immediately both angry and frustrated. She shot him a fierce glare and turned to leave.
Dave, pushing the shopping cart, followed her closely, silently warning himself to stay focused. If he let his mind wander again, the consequences would be unimaginable once she lost her temper.
The rest of the shopping went relatively smoothly. They bought a large number of travel items, bags full of clothes and sunscreen, and when they finally left the mall, Dave suggested,
"Let’s stop by the pharmacy later and buy some essential medications."
Laurent hadn’t thought of that. She had been focused on shopping for clothes and sunscreen, forgetting that medications were also a travel necessity.
In a foreign country, if they had an upset stomach or caught a cold, it would be difficult and time-consuming to find a pharmacy.
For the first time, Laurent thought, He really is quite thoughtful.
But as she appreciated his attentiveness, she couldn’t help but remember how indifferent he used to be. Laurent thought to herself, His indifference back then... was it because he really didn’t care?
Dave noticed the sudden change in her mood and quickly turned to look at her with sharp eyes, asking,
"What’s wrong?"
Laurent knew she shouldn’t always bring up the past, but she couldn’t control herself and blurted out,
"Why didn’t I notice before that you’re so thoughtful? Was it because you didn’t care back then, so you couldn’t be bothered?"
The bitterness in her words was undeniable, and Dave couldn’t ignore it.
He smiled helplessly and said,
"I admit that what you said is true."
Dave didn’t try to cover up with sweet words. He knew that, as Laurent had pointed out, during their marriage, he hadn’t been truly invested at first because he hadn’t fallen in love yet. Later, when he did fall in love, he was too proud to put in the effort.
It was only after losing her that he realized love had to be mutual, and marriage needed to be nurtured by both partners for it to last.
Dave’s honesty left Laurent at a loss for words.
They arrived at a pharmacy just ahead, and Dave parked the car in front, turning to Laurent with a serious, pleading look.
"Laurent, I know I was wrong in many ways in the past. If time could go backward, I wouldn’t make those mistakes again. But since time can’t turn back, I hope we can look forward together."
"Sorry..."
Laurent realized she had been too harsh earlier. In the early days of their marriage, he hadn’t loved her, and she couldn’t expect him to be thoughtful and attentive to someone he didn’t love. No one could do that.
Dave reached over and gently took her hand.
"You don’t need to apologize. I know you’re not the kind of person to make a fuss. I just hope we don’t let the past affect our future."
Laurent didn’t say anything further, simply smiling at him.
"Let’s go, let’s get the medicine."
There was no need to dwell on the past; life had already seen enough storms.
