You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 229- drive him crazy
Dave thought it was beautiful. He wanted to take the woman he loved to enjoy such a view together.
With the destination chosen, the next step was finalizing all the arrangements. The afternoon passed in a flurry of activity.
Dave was always highly efficient. By the time he finished work, he had already taken care of everything related to the trip.
He left some instructions for his secretary about his upcoming absence from the office for the next week, gave a few important work tasks, and then, while dialing Laurent’s number, left the office.
Laurent gave him the address where she and Vivian were. He could hear Vivian on the other end, calling for him to hurry over and treat them to dinner.
Dave couldn’t help but laugh. This was the first time he had experienced such a thing—treating her best friends to dinner in the role of her protector.
During their five years of marriage, he had barely interacted with her friends. Back then, he had been too disdainful to have any deep connections with her, and, of course, he had no interest in her social circle.
In the end, when she left him and ran away, he couldn’t even find her.
Driving over to meet them, Vivian hummed while greeting him, and her expression made it clear that she wasn’t happy with him at all.
Dave had always known that Vivian didn’t like him, and he was used to her attitude.
However, Vivian didn’t hold back. She picked the most expensive French restaurant and insisted that he pay, almost as if getting a big meal out of him would make her feel better.
During the meal, Vivian, with a gloating smile, raised her glass to Dave.
"Lord Washington, I wish you and our Laurent a pleasant journey!"
Vivian’s words had no problem at all. They were about to go on a trip, and she was simply wishing them a pleasant journey. However, Dave couldn’t shake the feeling that Vivian had some hidden agenda.
Later, when Vivian went to the restroom, Dave asked Laurent,
"Why do I feel like her words had some hidden meaning?"
Laurent felt awkward. Could she really tell him that Vivian didn’t think highly of his performance during the trip and was secretly hoping he would be completely "out" when they returned?
So, she casually brushed it off and said,
"You’re too sensitive. She just simply wanted to wish us a pleasant journey."
Dave seriously doubted her explanation, squinting as he thought for a moment before asking,
"She’s not secretly gloating, waiting for me to fail and be out of the picture when we get back, is she?"
Laurent, "..."
Who could explain why a grown man like him was so sensitive?
Laurent’s expression gave everything away, and Dave knew he was right.
However, he didn’t say much more. Vivian had always had that attitude, and what interested him more were the opinions of Marylin and Zoey.
"So, what do your other friends think of me now?"
Laurent gave him a look.
"Do you really want to know?"
"Yeah."
He nodded, and Laurent smiled at him mischievously.
"I’m not telling you."
Dave, "..."
She really was trying to drive him crazy.
Laurent glanced at Dave’s frustrated expression and couldn’t help but laugh.
"Why do you care about other people’s opinions of you?"
He, such a proud person, had never cared about what others thought, had he?
Whether people thought well or badly of him, it never affected him, right?
But Dave furrowed his brows.
"Of course I care. I want to know how many of the people around you support you being with me."
Dave knew that caring about others’ opinions was a good thing, but caring too much about it was a sign of insecurity. Yet, at this moment, when it came to his relationship with her, he truly lacked confidence. He was afraid that even the slightest disturbance might make her break up with him again.
Laurent looked at Dave. At first, she thought he was joking, but now, seeing his serious expression, she realized he was truly concerned about how her friends saw him.
When did he become so insecure?
In fact, most of the people around her, aside from Vivian and her father, had clearly expressed their hope that she would reconcile with Dave.
Vivian was the type of person who was tough on the outside but soft on the inside. After Dave took a bullet for her, Vivian had already accepted him in her heart, even though she was reluctant to admit it aloud.
As for her father, compared to her mother, who repeatedly persuaded her to reconcile with Dave, her father’s stance was more ambiguous.
Laurent thought that perhaps her father had already compromised in his heart, but out of pride, he was unwilling to show it so quickly, especially since, before that incident, he had never had a good opinion of Dave.
However, it didn’t matter what other people thought. The most important thing was how she felt.
If she was determined to be with him, no one could stop her, just like back then.
If she was determined not to be with him, no one could stop her either.
So, in reality, the only person he needed to care about was her and her feelings.
With that thought, she lowered her eyes and didn’t look at him anymore, softly saying,
"None of them agreed with me being with you before..."
She didn’t say more, but Dave understood the meaning behind her words.
What she was trying to express was that other people’s opinions couldn’t sway her, so there was no need for him to ask about how her friends felt about him.
Even if everyone still disagreed with them being together, as long as she was willing, they could be together.
However, there was another side to this—if everyone agreed with them getting back together, but she herself didn’t want to, then it wouldn’t matter.
Dave’s heart was torn between heaven and hell, going back and forth in torment, constantly guessing what answer she would give him soon.
Would it be the one he hoped for, where they reconcile? Or would they part ways for good?
