Chapter 233: Chapter 233- Yesterday Once More

Dave and Laurent arrived at the airport on time and, after completing the check-in process, waited in the VIP lounge.

Dave had booked first-class seats, but after a long wait, they were informed that the flight was delayed due to weather conditions. With no choice but to wait, they remained at the airport.

The longer the delay, the more restless one would become—especially Laurent, who was already exhausted.

After being tormented by a certain someone until late last night, her entire body ached, and all she wanted was to sleep. Yet, there was still no news about their departure. Sitting on the lounge sofa, Laurent gradually drifted into drowsiness.

Dave, seated beside her, reached out and pulled her into his arms, speaking in a gentle tone.

"I’ll find a nearby hotel for you to sleep for a few hours."

Laurent forced herself to stay awake and shook her head.

"No need. The flight could be announced at any moment, and we might not have enough time to get back. I’ll just tough it out a little longer and sleep once we board."

Seeing her like this, Dave felt a pang of regret for his lack of restraint the previous night.

He had assumed they would board smoothly, and since he had booked first-class, she could rest properly once they were on the plane. Who would have thought they’d run into a delay?

Holding her closer, he stroked her back and spoke with concern.

"Then lean on me and get some rest."

Laurent wasn’t fond of public displays of affection, but at this moment, feeling exhausted and drowsy, she no longer cared.

Deep down, she was also slightly annoyed, though she didn’t show it.

She was annoyed at the damn weather that caused the flight delay, annoyed at Dave for his relentless tormenting last night, and annoyed at herself for agreeing to this godforsaken trip with him in the first place.

Just as her mind was growing increasingly restless while leaning against him, a pair of earbuds was gently placed in her ears. A soft, melodic tune began to play, followed by the singer’s soothing, deep voice.

It was Yesterday Once More by The Carpenters.

An old yet timelessly popular song.

Karen Carpenter’s rich, velvety voice was warm and natural, instantly easing her nerves and bringing a sense of comfort.

The earbuds had been placed by Dave. He could sense her unease and wanted to calm her. Remembering that he had a collection of classic songs on his phone—ones he often listened to when feeling restless—he decided to share one with her.

He believed she would like it. And since it was in English, she wouldn’t have any trouble understanding it.

As he had hoped, the beautiful melody gradually smoothed out Laurent’s frustration, and before long, she drifted off into a light sleep.

When she woke again, it was to Dave’s voice calling her. The airport announcement had just informed them that their flight was ready for boarding.

A jacket was draped over her shoulders—it was his. It had kept her warm while she slept, shielding her from the chill of the lounge.

As she handed the jacket back to him, she murmured a quiet thank you.

Dave said nothing, merely took the jacket and naturally pulled her into his embrace as they walked out of the lounge together toward their flight.

By now, night had fallen. They had arrived at the airport in the afternoon and had waited three to four hours.

Through the vast floor-to-ceiling windows, Laurent gazed at the massive aircraft resting on the tarmac—the one that would soon carry her through the boundless night sky, alongside Dave, to Saipan.

An inexplicable feeling stirred within her.

The night was deep, and the sky vast and endless. Surrounding them were hurried travelers, strangers passing by with quick, indifferent footsteps. In that moment, Laurent felt as if the only thing she could rely on was the man beside her. Without thinking, she leaned a little closer into his embrace.

Noticing her movement, Dave tightened his hold on her slightly and asked in a low voice,

"What’s wrong?"

Laurent lifted her eyes to look at him briefly before shaking her head without a word, then lowered her gaze again, allowing him to hold her as they walked forward together.

Yet, at that moment, a single thought surfaced clearly in her mind:

One heart, one soul, forevermore. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

The flight itself was smooth, and they landed safely at Saipan International Airport at around 4 AM local time. After clearing customs, they took a taxi to the hotel Dave had booked in advance.

The exhaustion from the long journey weighed heavily on them, so after a quick wash-up, both fell asleep almost instantly, taking the much-needed rest.

Speaking of the hotel, Dave had only booked one room.

Laurent had gone through the travel itinerary the night before but somehow hadn’t noticed this detail. It wasn’t until they were checking in at the front desk that it finally hit her.

Then again, considering what had already happened the previous night, insisting on separate rooms now felt a little too pretentious. So, she chose to remain silent, quietly accepting the arrangement.

Besides, she knew that even if they had booked separate rooms, Dave would have found a way to make them share one in the end.

Still, she couldn’t help but ask herself—just what had she been thinking when reviewing the travel plans? How did she not notice he had only reserved a single room?

Resting for a few hours, the next morning, the two were startled awake by the sound of torrential rain. Dave got up, walked to the window, and pulled back the curtains to check. The scenery outside had been washed into a misty blur by the heavy downpour. All he could see was a haze of deep green and streams of rain cascading down the glass.

Laurent sat up in bed, feeling a bit frustrated.

"How are we supposed to go out and have fun in this kind of rain?"

This was beyond frustrating. They had just arrived at their destination, and on the very first day, they were met with a downpour so heavy that they couldn’t go anywhere. Were they supposed to just stay holed up in the hotel and sleep the day away?

Dave closed the curtains again and climbed back into bed. Turning to face her, he reached out and pulled her soft body into his embrace. His fingers gently caressed her cheek as he chuckled softly.

"They always say that after the storm comes the rainbow. Once the rain stops, we’ll go and see it. With rain this heavy and skies this blue here, there’s bound to be a rainbow."

Hearing him say that, Laurent felt her frustration begin to dissipate.

He had a point. Rainbows often appeared after storms. If they could see one later, it would be a beautiful sight. After all, back home, rainbows were rare. She could count on one hand the number of times she’d seen one in her life.

Dave continued speaking, his voice carrying a hint of mischief.

"Besides, just because we can’t go out in the rain doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. There are plenty of things we can do while staying in the hotel..."

As he spoke, his hands began to wander restlessly, trailing down from her cheek and slipping under the thin blanket, eager to indulge in the softness beneath.

Laurent swatted his hand away, protesting,

"Stop it! I don’t want to do this anymore. I need to save my energy for the rainbow!"

She had already been exhausted the night before and didn’t want to go through it again. If there really was going to be a rainbow, she didn’t want to miss it either.

"You have such impure thoughts," Dave chuckled, his hands still mischievously roaming. Her weak resistance couldn’t do anything to stop him.

As he continued to invade her personal space, Laurent shot him an irritated glare, her face flushing with embarrassment. Was she the one being impure here?

"But before indulging in those activities, we could definitely do that thing you had in mind."

He said this with a grin, then rolled over, pinning her underneath him. Laurent, furious, pushed against his hard chest, rejecting his approach.

"What do you mean, the thing I had in mind? I don’t want to!"

She hadn’t been thinking about it at all! She had just said that to prevent him from having those thoughts!

But he deliberately twisted her words,

"If you didn’t want to, then why did you think about it the moment I mentioned it?"

Laurent was at a loss for words.

And Dave didn’t give her any time to resist. He lowered his body and kissed her, making her surrender with his actions.
