You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 235- A rainbow
So, Dave changed his mind.
"Maybe we shouldn’t go after all."
Laurent had already changed into her swimsuit, and now he said he didn’t want to go. She was furious.
"Didn’t you suggest going swimming in the first place? How can you keep changing your mind like this!"
After being scolded, Dave fell silent. He realized he had been a bit difficult, so he obediently took her to swim.
After swimming, they changed into clean clothes and went to a café to sit and have coffee, enjoying their afternoon tea. Both of them had their laptops, as they had nothing else to do and decided to catch up on some work.
The heavy rain had gradually stopped, but there were still light drizzles.
Laurent was doing better, but Dave was actually quite busy. Once they got to the café and he switched into work mode, his phone hadn’t stopped ringing.
After finishing a call with a company executive, Laurent softly asked him,
"How’s the hostile takeover you mentioned a few days ago going?"
Since he had told her that a company wanted to maliciously acquire Washington Inc., Laurent hadn’t asked him about it again.
It wasn’t that she didn’t care about him; it was because she knew that during that time, he must have been overwhelmed with stress. If she kept asking, it might only make him more frustrated. Moreover, he had just been discharged from the hospital, so most of her attention was on his recovery.
She also felt that, regardless of whether he succeeded or failed, it didn’t matter to her, so there was no need to ask.
If she kept asking, it would make it seem like she cared too much about whether he won this battle, like she was concerned about whether he could hold on to his position at Washington Inc.
So, she never asked, and he, in turn, never brought it up in front of her.
The reason she asked now was that she guessed he must have won, otherwise, how could he be in the mood to go on a vacation with her? Also, his state these days was clearly much better than before.
Since being discharged, he had been staying at her place every night. He smoked heavily, and his brows were always furrowed, much more tense than he was now.
There were many things she didn’t need him to say—she could guess them, and she understood.
Dave raised an eyebrow at her, his face full of amusement.
"Finally asking?"
Laurent snorted.
"I already knew the answer even if you didn’t say anything."
With him smiling like that, it was clear that he had won the battle.
Dave reached over and took her hand.
"With such clear thoughts, how could I not love you?"
He had never said a word about everything, yet she had guessed it all, and wisely chose to ask now, not during those days when he was most overwhelmed. She had allowed him to maintain his dignity and pride as a man, and had shown intelligence and compassion that made him want to protect her.
How could he not fall in love with such a woman? How could he not fall deeply for her, unable to stop?
Facing Dave’s words, which seemed like a confession, Laurent withdrew her hand and softly said,
"As long as everything is fine."
In her heart, she believed he was capable of anything, so it was only natural that he had won this battle.
What seemed like a heavy topic was now put to rest, and the two of them went back to their own things.
It was unclear how much time passed, but suddenly, the sound of excited shouts filled the air. They looked outside and saw that the rain had already stopped. A dazzling rainbow slowly appeared in the deep blue sky in the distance. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
The rainbow was so beautiful that it made everyone scream and cheer in excitement.
Laurent was equally delighted. She stood up from her seat, pointed at the beautiful scene in the distance, and said to Dave,
"A rainbow, a rainbow, look! A rainbow!"
"I can’t believe there’s really a rainbow!"
Laurent was overjoyed, standing on her tiptoes, continuously looking outside.
When Dave first heard about the rainbow, there was a flash of surprise in his eyes. But soon, that emotion was replaced by an overwhelming depth.
A rainbow. A rainbow.
Only after the storm can there be a rainbow. Could this symbolize that, after all the turmoil they had been through, he and she would also see the rainbow of happiness?
Unlike Laurent, who was excited, he calmly packed up their things and then took her hand, leading her away.
Laurent, confused, asked, "What are you doing?"
He tightened his grip on her hand.
"Let’s go find a better spot to watch the rainbow."
The two of them went back to their room to drop off their things, and then Laurent was led by Dave to the beach.
The beach had already gathered a crowd of people who came to see the rainbow, but it didn’t affect their mood at all. They found a quieter spot and watched the colorful arc in the sky.
It was stunning, dazzling.
Dave wrapped his arms around Laurent from behind, pulling her into his embrace.
The rainbow was beautiful, and their hearts were light with joy.
Dave tightened his hold on her and slowly spoke,
"I didn’t expect to see a rainbow on our first day here. I’m not superstitious, but this time, I’d rather believe that the rainbow is a good omen, symbolizing that after we’ve weathered the storm, we’ll eventually find happiness, and you’ll return to my side."
"Laurent, I love you."
It was his deep, serious confession that slowly rang in Laurent’s ears, and it made her heart tremble.
She had been waiting for those words from him for six years.
Her nose tingled, and tears uncontrollably fell.
He turned her towards him, lowered his head, and gently kissed her lips. Beneath the rainbow’s vibrant colors, their kiss was tender and lingering.
In this way, he dissolved all the grievances and regrets in her heart.
From now on, everything he gave her, he hoped, would be filled with happiness.
