You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 240- I LOVE YOU
Laurent raised her hand to touch his chiseled face, sobbing softly.
"We’ve come so far to be together. You mustn’t let anything happen to you."
"These past few days have been the happiest of my life, and I want to keep being this happy. I want to spend my whole life with you, so please, wake up."
"I love the way you spoil me, the way you love me. I love being with you. The truth is, I’ve always loved you—I never forgot you, not even once. I—"
Laurent choked up, unable to continue. She didn’t even know what to say.
She was terrified—terrified that he would never wake up again.
This fear was even worse than when Clark had stabbed him before. At least back then, he had been conscious, comforting her, and she had known exactly what was happening.
But now, he had suddenly collapsed into unconsciousness, and she had no idea why. On top of that, they were in a foreign country...
The thought made Laurent even more distraught. She sat helplessly beside Dave, burying her face into her knees as she wept bitterly.
"Dave, I love you. Please wake up..."
Just as she was drowning in despair, she felt someone wrap their arms around her. Then, a deep and affectionate voice sounded above her head.
"I love you too."
Laurent gasped in shock and pushed the person away, only to see Dave—awake, sitting there perfectly fine, gazing down at her with a warm smile.
Tears streamed down Laurent’s face.
"You—"
Cheers and applause erupted from the people on the nearby speedboat.
Dave reached up to gently wipe the tears from her cheeks, then pulled her into his embrace.
"I heard everything. You love me so much. You never forgot me."
Laurent finally realized what had happened. She burst into a mix of laughter and tears, pounding his chest.
"You tricked me!"
She didn’t even know what to feel anymore—furious that he had deceived her, yet overwhelmed with joy and relief. Seeing him safe and sound in front of her, she could only feel gratitude, nothing but gratitude.
Dave held her close and raised his hand, gesturing for her to look into the distance.
Through tear-blurred eyes, Laurent followed his gaze and saw several speedboats gliding across the vast ocean. Behind them, a string of colorful balloons swayed in the wind, forming the words: "I LOVE YOU."
Her tears flowed even harder. She covered her mouth in shock, unable to utter a single word.
There was no need for an explanation—this was all for her. So that was why he had pulled the boat captain aside earlier, whispering to him for so long.
Dave leaned close to her ear, his voice gentle.
"A surprise for you."
The people on the speedboats erupted into cheers, clapping and whistling.
Laurent buried her face in his broad chest, sobbing uncontrollably while muttering in between tears,
"This wasn’t a surprise—it was a scare!"
But despite her words, her heart was filled with warmth.
She was deeply moved by everything he had done for her, even though his fake collapse had nearly scared her to death just moments ago.
"I had no other choice," Dave explained, his tone soft yet firm. "You’ve been drifting closer and farther away, and I couldn’t figure out how you truly felt about me. This was the only way to make you admit it."
Back in the car, when Laurent had casually said that they weren’t a family, it had deeply wounded Dave. That was the moment he started thinking about how he could force her to reveal her true feelings.
Originally, Dave had planned to let things develop naturally over the next few days and wait until they returned home to get an answer from her. But that single sentence had stirred up all the frustration in his heart.
He couldn’t stand waiting any longer. Every day felt like he was on the verge of losing her, and his patience had run dry. He wanted—no, needed—to hear her say she loved him, and he wanted to hear it now.
People are strange like that. Not long ago, he had told himself that after waiting this long, he could surely wait a little longer. But now, he couldn’t stand another second of uncertainty.
Perhaps only love could make someone so contradictory, so temperamental, so consumed by fear and hope at the same time.
Perhaps only love could make a person feel like they were no longer themselves.
And so, he staged this whole act—the sudden collapse, the prearranged coordination with the water sports team, and the grand gesture with the floating balloons. All of it was just to force her to finally speak her heart.
He had thought it over countless times. In this foreign land, the only way to truly shake her was for something to happen to him.
And thankfully, everything had gone exactly as he had hoped.
Her feelings were just as he had suspected all along—
She had always loved him. She had never forgotten him.
They had enjoyed their water activities enough for the day, and after staging such an elaborate scene, Dave decided it was time to take her back. He steered the speedboat toward the shore, while Laurent buried herself in his embrace the entire way, unable to stop crying.
The speedboats carrying the "I LOVE YOU" balloons trailed behind them, following closely the whole way back. Every time Laurent lifted her gaze, the sight of them sent fresh tears streaming down her face.
Now that she had moved past the initial shock of his sudden collapse, all that remained in her heart was overwhelming emotion.
She was touched by everything he had arranged so meticulously. Would someone go to such great lengths unless they were truly in love? Would they put in so much effort just to bring her happiness if they didn’t care so deeply?
To love someone and be deeply loved in return—was there anything in the world more blissful, more sweet than that?
Once they reached the shore, they packed up and ended their day’s adventure, driving back to the villa. After washing away the salt and exhaustion from their bodies, Laurent took the initiative—leaning in to kiss Dave.
Dave, of course, was more than happy to indulge in her rare boldness. He let himself sink into the mattress, allowing her to tease and entice him as she pleased.
Just when Dave thought their passion had built up enough and they were about to move to the next step, Laurent suddenly stopped kissing him. Resting against his chest, she perked up and suggested enthusiastically,
"Let’s go to a bar tonight and have a few drinks!"
Dave opened his eyes, his voice husky with frustration as he stared at her, displeased.
"Why do you suddenly want to go to a bar?"
His voice, thick with restrained desire, was low and magnetic, his gaze dark with intensity—dangerously seductive.
Laurent felt her breath quicken under his heated stare.
"No reason, I just feel like it..."
She couldn’t explain it. While kissing him, the thought had simply popped into her head.
Wasn’t it said that bars were an essential part of a city’s culture? It seemed like a waste to travel without experiencing the local nightlife. Plus, she was feeling exhilarated from everything that had happened today, which made the idea even more appealing.
After she finished speaking, Dave gave her a long look. Then, with a swift movement, he flipped her beneath him, his strong hands gripping her waist.
"In this situation, you still have the mood to think about bars? Am I that unappealing to you?"
Laurent laughed, deliberately provoking him.
"Yes, the moment I thought about all the handsome men at the bar, you lost all your charm."
Of course, teasing him had consequences.
He responded by proving to her—through action—just how irresistible he truly was.
