You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 268- kidnapped
At that moment, Dave looked a bit disheveled, with bruises around his mouth. Coupled with his dejected and discouraged tone, Laurent found it somewhat amusing, but at the same time, it made her feel a deep sense of sympathy for him.
After spending the entire night in fear, her emotions surged all at once.
"Let’s go register for remarriage tomorrow."
Laurent looked at Dave as she said this, her voice filled with emotion. He was the one for her, and she couldn’t live without him.
Finally, after so much waiting, she had spoken up about wanting to remarry. Dave was taken aback, but after a moment of calm, he immediately rejected the idea.
"No!"
Thinking back to Alex’s attitude, Dave stood his ground.
"I have to earn your dad’s approval this time. Once he truly agrees to you marrying me, then we’ll get remarried."
He said this while tightening his grip on her hand, his tone heavy with determination.
"I’m not in a rush. I can wait."
Laurent didn’t respond. She lowered her eyes and stared at their hands intertwined.
His fingers were long and strong, his palm broad and firm. As he held her hand, it gave her a constant source of strength.
She had once longed so much to be held by these hands, to walk through life’s storms together.
Now that her wish had come true, she should be smiling, but her eyes filled with tears instead. And in the next moment, the tears began to fall, one by one, rolling down her hand and soaking it with warmth.
Dave, momentarily panicked, leaned closer and wrapped his arms around her.
"Why are you crying?"
Laurent shook her head in his embrace, then raised her hand to wipe away her tears.
She didn’t even know what was wrong with her, why she suddenly started crying.
She only felt overwhelmed when thinking back on the difficult journey they had gone through together.
After a while, Laurent managed to calm herself down. The two of them ate the dinner that Cassy had prepared, then returned to Laurent’s room to rest. But that night, Laurent was plagued by nightmares. She kept waking up, feeling suffocated in her chest, and couldn’t sleep peacefully at all.
After breakfast, Laurent called Matthew to update him on what had happened the previous night. She apologized for pulling out of the business collaboration with Bert and also mentioned that if there were any losses caused to the company, she would take responsibility.
This was something Dave had advised her to say before they went to sleep the night before. Bert’s visit had led to Matthew hosting a banquet, arranging transportation, and incurring costs.
On the other end, Matthew responded.
"It’s not about losses, really. Let’s just consider this client a missed opportunity. Not every client who visits our company ends up placing an order with us, so you don’t need to feel too guilty."
After finishing her call with Matthew, Laurent heard Dave pick up the phone again. However, after only a few words, his face changed immediately.
Cold and sinister, his eyes were filled with a murderous gleam that made Laurent feel afraid. She had been with him for so long, but she had never seen him like this before.
"What happened?"
The bad feeling that had been gnawing at her heart intensified. Now seeing Dave’s expression, she quickly approached him and asked urgently.
Dave remained silent throughout the entire call. Once the conversation ended, he simply said "I understand" before hanging up the phone. He then looked at Laurent with a somber expression and spoke slowly.
"My dad called. He said Bert’s people have kidnapped my mom and Emma."
"What?"
After hearing his words, Laurent’s legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the floor.
Dave, holding back the pain in his heart, helped her up. How could his heart not ache after something like this? One was his most beloved mother, and the other was his most cherished daughter—both were the most important people in his life.
Alex, who had just returned from his morning workout, saw what happened and rushed over.
"Laurent!"
Laurent was in a dazed state, and Dave and Alex helped her sit down on the sofa. It took a while before she could catch her breath.
Dave explained to Laurent, Alex, and Cassy what he had just heard from Daniel. Since Laurent was away on a business trip, he had come over, so his daughter had been left in Tiffany’s care. However, Tiffany wasn’t feeling well, so Daniel thought he would help by picking up his granddaughter. He had been waiting downstairs at Tiffany’s building early in the morning.
But after waiting for a long time and not seeing Tiffany or his granddaughter, Daniel called Tiffany, but there was no answer.
Worried, Daniel decided to go upstairs to check on her. He knocked on the door for a long time, but no one responded.
Daniel became more anxious. He feared that something might have happened to Tiffany, especially since she had been feeling unwell lately. But then he thought to himself—it didn’t make sense. If something had happened to Tiffany, his granddaughter was there too. Even though the little girl was only four years old, she was sharp and clever and would surely know how to call for help. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
And even if Tiffany didn’t respond, the granddaughter should have been able to.
The silence made Daniel uneasy.
Just then, his phone rang. It was Bert calling. A sense of foreboding rushed over Daniel, and when he answered, he heard Bert’s cheerful voice on the other end.
"Father, what are you busy with?"
The words sounded like a normal greeting, but to Daniel’s ears, they were painfully grating.
Daniel didn’t want to believe that Bert was responsible for taking Tiffany and Emma, but he couldn’t rule out the possibility. He had no choice but to ask, "Did you take them?"
There was a long pause on Bert’s side, followed by a self-mocking laugh and a tone full of disdain.
"Are you so sure that I did this? Is that really how you see me, Bert? Just some despicable, shameless person?"
Bert seemed to hate that Daniel suspected him right away, yet he didn’t deny it, nor did he pretend to be confused by Daniel’s words. His reaction immediately revealed that he knew exactly what Daniel was talking about.
Daniel’s emotions nearly shattered as he yelled on his side, "What do you want to do? How innocent are they both!"
For Daniel, Bert’s indirect admission stoked the fire in his chest. First, the woman and granddaughter he cared most about had been taken, which was already enough to make him furious. Now, to find out that it was his own son behind it—it only made the anger worse.
He was angry at Bert’s actions but also heartbroken over his son’s obsession and madness.
"Yes! They are both innocent, but only they can control you," Bert’s voice turned cold on the other end.
"Don’t you dare call the police, or I’ll kill them immediately. Do you think I should take care of your precious granddaughter first, or your beloved woman?"
"Bert, if you lay a finger on them, I swear—!" Daniel’s voice was hoarse from yelling, and he was trembling with rage. He had to hold onto the doorknob outside Tiffany’s house just to keep himself standing.
Daniel couldn’t even begin to imagine what he would do if anything happened to Tiffany or Emma Washington. He couldn’t live with it; he would go with them.
Bert laughed mockingly on the other end.
"What I want is very simple. Hand over Washington Co. to me, and I’ll ensure their safety. Otherwise..."
Bert paused, then coldly laughed before hanging up the phone, not allowing Daniel to speak any further.
Daniel’s emotions completely unraveled. He called Dave to tell him what had just happened and shouted in despair, "Give him Washington Co. I can’t handle even a scratch on your mother! Don’t call the police, don’t call the police!"
At this moment, Daniel didn’t care about anything else—Washington Co., money, none of it mattered. He only wanted the woman he loved to be safe. Even if she returned and still chose to divorce him, he wouldn’t care.
He just wanted her to be safe.
He just wanted her to survive.
When it came to life and death, whether she would stay with him no longer seemed important.
