Chapter 280: Chapter 280- it’s his choice

Dave’s cooking skills were generally quite good. However, since lunch break was relatively short, Laurent quickly finished her meal and hurried back to work.

Laurent felt the need to find an opportunity to talk to him about not working so hard. She knew he wanted to prove how much he cared for her, but she also felt sorry for his busyness.

After Laurent left for work, Tiffany took a thermal container from the kitchen. After Dave had finished cooking, she quietly took out the container, placed some dishes in it, and ladled some soup.

Since there was still a patient at the hospital, she handed the container to Dave,

"Take this to him."

"Are you not going?" Dave asked, a bit confused. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

He had seen everything his mother did earlier. At first, when she hadn’t made a move, he secretly worried about his father. If his father was in such a condition and his mother didn’t care, it would mean there was really no hope left for them.

Now that his mother had decided to send food for his father, Dave felt a little more at ease.

Tiffany shook her head,

"I’m a bit tired and want to take a nap. You take it to him."

Dave had no choice but to agree.

He also knew his mother wasn’t truly tired. She probably didn’t want to see his father so frequently. After all, she had always been distant toward him, and it was hard for her to suddenly warm up to him.

A heart that has been hurt is not something that can be warmed up easily.

When Dave went to the hospital to deliver food to Daniel, he saw several high-ranking executives from Washington Co. standing outside the hospital room. It seemed that they had somehow heard about Daniel’s hospitalization. Their emotions appeared to be quite angry, clearly protesting Daniel’s situation due to Bert’s rise to power.

Daniel, on the other hand, remained calm, quietly listening to their complaints.

Dave immediately stepped aside, holding the thermal container, and temporarily left the scene. If those executives saw him, it would be a disaster for him. They probably couldn’t reach him directly, which was why their protest had ended up at Daniel’s door.

Dave understood their anger; after all, they were fighting for the company’s interests, which were essentially their own. However, he couldn’t get involved anymore. He had stepped down, and it was neither appropriate nor logical for him to meddle in the company’s affairs.

Besides, those executives didn’t need to react so strongly. They should try to give Bert some time and a chance to prove himself, to show that he was capable of leading Washington Co. as well.

Of course, there was always the risk of leadership failure.

Finding a quiet corner, Dave sat down and waited for the executives to leave, pulling out his phone to check the news.

The changes at Washington Co. had quickly become headline news, and the company’s stock had experienced a significant fluctuation. The media exaggerated the situation, even suggesting that the world was now looking for him to pay for what had happened.

Dave couldn’t help but laugh as he read the descriptions in the news. It seemed like he might need to buy a mask to avoid being recognized.

Some people said he had gone abroad on vacation, others claimed he was seeking new collaborations and planning a comeback. In any case, there were all sorts of rumors, since the real behind-the-scenes details of the conflict were unknown.

Perhaps no one knew he was still in the city, just blending in with everyday life.

They say "the greatest concealment is in plain sight," and it made a lot of sense.

About half an hour later, Dave stood up and headed back to Daniel’s room. The group had left, and Daniel was resting with his eyes closed.

It would be impossible to say that Daniel wasn’t emotionally affected. Taking over Washington Co. from his father, he had poured half of his life’s work into it, and he was deeply concerned about the company’s future.

However, when faced with Tiffany and his granddaughter’s lives, he had no choice but to give up Washington Co. There were details about this situation that he couldn’t share with the executives, so he had to endure their ongoing anger and accusations in silence.

Now, he could only hope. Hope that the rebellious son would manage Washington Co. well and not ruin the century-old foundation of the company.

However, deep down, he wasn’t optimistic about Bert. Bert was somewhat of an artistic type, and people like him often had independent and sometimes obsessive thoughts. They were full of sharp edges, not diplomatic or smooth enough to handle the ever-changing business world. Such people weren’t suited to managing a company.

Moreover, Bert had grown up abroad and was completely unfamiliar with the domestic policies. Another point was that Bert had suddenly taken over Washington Co., with no network or connections, as could be seen from the reaction of the company’s executives.

Historically, to take and maintain control of an empire, one had to go through much intrigue and careful groundwork. But Bert hadn’t done any of that.

However, Bert had at least demonstrated the essence of the story of "using the emperor to command the ministers." Thinking of everything related to Washington Co., Daniel couldn’t help but feel a surge of anger.

But then, recalling the doctor’s advice, he slowly calmed down.

He didn’t want to think about it too much anymore. All he wanted now was to recover, live well, and spend the rest of his life peacefully with Tiffany.

Dave walked into the hospital room holding the food. When Daniel saw him and glanced at the food container, a clear look of joy crossed his face, probably thinking that Tiffany had prepared the meal for him.

Dave leisurely took out the food and casually dropped a bombshell on Daniel:

"The lunch was made by me, not by my mom."

Daniel was definitely taken aback. His mood instantly dropped, and Dave added:

"But my mom asked me to bring it to you."

Daniel’s mood was a rollercoaster... in a matter of seconds, he had gone from the heights of joy to the depths of despair, and then back up again, all thanks to his son. Angry, Daniel cursed:

"Are you all trying to kill me with stress?"

"I don’t have that kind of ability," Dave replied, calmly retreating to the side.

Now, Dave didn’t harbor as much resentment or hatred towards Daniel. Perhaps after going through so much, he had become more understanding, seeing many things clearly. He wasn’t as stubborn as before.

The most important thing was that the woman Daniel had insisted he marry was now the one he wanted to spend his life with. This made it hard for him to keep holding a grudge against Daniel.

While eating, Daniel asked him:

"Are you really just going to let him take over Washington Co. without doing anything?"

Dave replied with a relaxed expression:

"It wouldn’t be reasonable for me to get involved again, would it?"

Daniel ate quietly, and Dave spoke again:

"I think you should focus on getting better so you can help him."

Daniel shot him a glare:

"If you don’t have the skills, don’t try to take on the difficult tasks! He’s the one who insisted on taking over the company. No matter how tough it gets, it’s his choice to make!"

"Do as you wish."

Dave couldn’t be bothered to get involved further.

There was no more conversation between the father and son. After Daniel finished his meal, Lilian arrived to visit, and Dave left.
