Chapter 279: Chapter 279- give her the best

"I’m fine, you don’t need to worry."

Daniel looked Tiffany up and down.

"But what about you? Did that bastard make things difficult for you?"

Daniel’s biggest worry was that Bert would take all his frustrations out on Tiffany and make things hard for her.

Tiffany smiled and shook her head.

"No, he didn’t. He’s actually not such a bad person."

Tiffany made this judgment based on her experience spending a day with Bert and her granddaughter.

"Not such a bad person?"

Daniel didn’t agree with Tiffany’s assessment.

"Not such a bad person? He kidnapped you and Emma! What he did is a crime!"

Daniel was still angry when he spoke about it.

"It’s not just his fault that he ended up this way."

Tiffany replied to him calmly, leaving Daniel with nothing more to say.

Tiffany didn’t mean to dredge up old grievances, but she felt that the reason for Bert’s actions today wasn’t solely his fault, and there was no need to keep blaming him.

The lack of fatherly love, the broken family, and being an illegitimate child had all affected his personality to some extent.

In the end, she looked at Daniel and calmly said,

"What I mean is, this outcome, as it stands now, might actually be better for everyone."

Bert had gained the company, Dave had found love, and she and Daniel had slowly untangled their knots. This outcome wasn’t so bad after all.

"Tiffany, you—"

"I—" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Daniel was filled with emotion for a moment, not knowing what to say.

Tiffany chose to stand up and leave to get him some water, not wanting to continue discussing such matters with him. What she had just said already represented her stance.

Daniel watched her peaceful figure as she walked away. She had always been like this—calm, serene, gentle, and composed. After he left Bert and her son, he often thought that perhaps it was Tiffany’s personality that had drawn him in, making him stop lingering in fleeting romantic entanglements.

Perhaps this was the charm of a person’s character.

Meanwhile, Dave was in the supermarket, buying a variety of groceries in large and small bags. Without the glow of his usual grandeur, he was just like any ordinary man, navigating the crowded aisles of the supermarket.

Of course, he didn’t forget to buy the essentials and grabbed several boxes in one go.

After all, he was now a man staying at home, with plenty of time on his hands to think about these things, so he would certainly use them more often.

He quietly put away the boxes of essentials. After all, he would be learning to cook from his mother later, and it wouldn’t be good if she saw them.

After leaving the supermarket, he went to the hospital to pick up Tiffany, and the two of them returned to Tiffany’s place together.

Tiffany glanced at the large pile of ingredients he had bought and, a little helplessly, said to him,

"Did you buy all of this? Are you planning to cook it all for lunch?"

Dave looked just as innocent and replied,

"I mainly didn’t know what to cook, so I bought a little bit of everything."

For someone cooking for the first time, and especially for the woman he loved, he was quite anxious and unsure about what to make. He had no idea what to do, and Laurent had casually told him to just make anything.

He ended up buying a variety of things, thinking that being at home and cooking a meal while tidying up the house would be an easy task. He never expected that even choosing what to make would stress him out.

He really couldn’t fathom how Laurent had managed to cook three meals a day for them for so many years, constantly coming up with different dishes. It was always so delicious, and Laurent had done it tirelessly for so long, while he, just preparing one meal, was already getting agitated.

Tiffany, watching her son’s behavior, was speechless. As she sorted through the items he had bought, she said to him,

"There’s not much time for lunch, so let’s make something simple."

Dave, of course, had no objections and followed his mother’s lead.

Tiffany then picked a few vegetables and a soup and began directing him to cook.

From washing the vegetables, chopping them, to putting everything in the pot, step by step, she taught her son how to cook. But as she did so, Tiffany couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy.

"I’ve raised you all these years and never tasted food made by you. I didn’t expect that you’d go through all this trouble to learn to cook for another woman."

Any mother would feel a little jealous seeing her son so dedicated to another woman.

Think about it: carrying him for nine months, enduring all the discomforts and pains of pregnancy, and then raising him with so much effort. And now, he was trying things he’d never done before, all for another woman. What mother wouldn’t feel a bit sentimental?

Tiffany, being as understanding as she was, had always been rational and gentle after Dave and Laurent got married. She never once said anything to cause discord between them and always thought about what was best for their marriage.

But today, she couldn’t help but express her feelings. She was truly shocked that her once distant son would now cook for Laurent.

Dave, who was busy preparing, froze for a moment. Then, the next second, he turned around and smiled at his mother,

"Aren’t you going to be the first to taste it after I finish cooking?"

Dave’s clever remark instantly lifted Tiffany’s spirits a little.

He continued,

"How about this: since I have nothing to do at home these days, I’ll come over every day to cook. After I’m done, you can eat together too. That way, it’s fair, right?"

Tiffany was amused by Dave’s words.

"Forget it, I’m not going to get involved in your lives."

She had just been feeling a little sentimental, but she wasn’t the petty type. Besides, Dave’s words had brightened her mood. She was independent now, and didn’t need her children to fuss over her all the time. As long as they were happy in their own lives, that was enough for her.

As Dave was finishing the last dish, Tiffany went out to set the table and hung up her son’s coat. When she picked it up, a few boxes fell out of his pockets.

Tiffany picked them up and, looking a little embarrassed, discreetly put them back into the coat.

After thinking for a moment, she returned to the kitchen and asked her son,

"Now that you and Laurent have reconciled, don’t you think it’s time to consider remarrying? Since Laurent is still young, maybe it’s time for you two to think about having a second child."

While cooking, Dave replied to his mother,

"We’re not in a hurry for a second child."

Though he said there was no rush, in reality, he was more eager than anyone. He had felt it especially strongly when he was buying those essentials at the mall earlier today.

He desperately wanted to have another child with her, to make up for the things he had once failed to do for her.

However, given her current situation, it was impossible for her to agree to having a second child. Right now, her mind was entirely focused on her career.

He chose to respect her decision. He didn’t want to selfishly keep her tied to family and children. Since he was staying at home for the time being, he would let her focus fully on her career for now.

Loving someone comes with the foundation of respect, doesn’t it?

Because he loved her, he respected her choices and her career. And it was precisely because he respected her that he felt he was more worthy of her love.

"I really want to remarry her, but her father is still somewhat unhappy with me."

Tiffany was aware of this issue as well. Back when Laurent had the baby and Dave wasn’t around, Alex had become furious, and everyone in the Burg Eltz family knew about it. Since then, Alex had clearly begun to distance himself from Dave.

Dave continued,

"When we got married the first time, she didn’t get her father’s blessing. This time, I don’t want that to happen again. I want her to marry me again without any regrets, with everyone’s blessing."

"So, I think we should just stay as we are for now. Once her father agrees, we’ll remarry."

Tiffany, listening to her son, understood his feelings.

"Indeed, if you’ve decided to be together, you should give her the best."

She then added,

"As parents, all we want is to see that you truly care for our daughter. If they see that, they’ll feel at ease handing her over to you."

Dave nodded. He had already decided that he and Laurent would visit her parents this weekend. Only by spending more time with them would they realize that he truly cared for Laurent, right?

As their conversation came to an end, Laurent rang the doorbell.

Dave had already told her to come to Tiffany’s place after her shift, since he still needed Tiffany’s guidance in the kitchen, and Laurent knew that well.

When Laurent saw that Dave had prepared a full meal for her, she was genuinely touched. It would be a lie to say she wasn’t, especially when Tiffany, standing nearby, said,

"I didn’t lift a finger, only directed him. He made all of this himself."

While Tiffany went to wash her hands, Laurent quickly kissed Dave on the cheek and, with bright eyes, smiled at him, saying,

"Thank you."

Dave, however, didn’t seem to appreciate it.

"I think this is far from enough."

Laurent huffed,

"If it’s not enough, forget it. I’ll even take back that ’thank you.’"

Dave laughed,

"Now that you’re earning money and supporting the family, you’re much more confident, huh? Even being stingy enough to take back a ’thank you.’"

Just as they were joking around, Tiffany came back from washing her hands. Seeing them like this, with her son’s broad smile, she felt quite moved.

It was rare to see her son smile like that, and it was a good thing. She hoped her son would always have so many smiles in the future.
