You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 285- open minded
Cassy felt a bit embarrassed.
"I should’ve mentioned it earlier. I would have bought more ingredients."
After putting down what she was holding, Cassy turned to leave.
"You stay for a while, I’ll go buy some more ingredients."
Cassy had only bought a few dishes that she and Alex liked to eat, all simple ingredients. Since she hadn’t received any notice that Dave was coming, she hadn’t prepared anything extra.
Now, seeing Dave, she thought it wouldn’t be right to let him eat so simply with them. She decided to go out and buy more, maybe even something like six dishes and a soup.
To Cassy, Dave was still a guest.
Dave immediately got up and stopped Cassy.
"No need, Auntie, a simple meal is fine. I brought Emma here today just to visit you. Laurent’s not free, and I have plenty of time right now, so I’m just here to show my filial piety for her."
He then added,
"Please don’t treat me like an outsider. How about this, I’ll cook lunch."
Dave volunteered to cook, which shocked Alex and Cassy.
To them, Dave was the typical rich kid who expected everything to be done for him. When his marriage to their daughter was still intact, he didn’t take care of anything at home; all the chores and responsibilities were handled by their daughter, while he just focused on earning money outside.
Now, he was saying he would cook?
Could he even cook?
Seeing their shock, Dave raised his hand and waved it over to his daughter, who was playing nearby. The little girl ran over and proudly praised him in front of Alex and Cassy.
"Grandma, Grandpa, my dad cooks really well!"
The little girl was telling the truth. Although traditionally, cooking was considered more of a woman’s role, men also have their own strengths when it comes to cooking. Over the past few days, under Tiffany’s direct guidance, Dave had no problem cooking simple meals, and they tasted pretty good.
If the little girl thought it was delicious, it must truly be good.
Dave explained himself at the right moment.
"I just retired from Washington Co., so I’ve had plenty of time recently. I thought I might as well learn to cook, so that if Laurent gets busy, I can help out at home."
Alex and Cassy had already known about Dave stepping down from Washington Co., so they were aware that he was now at home with plenty of free time.
The two of them had some heartfelt conversations about how Daniel had made such a sacrifice for Tiffany and how Dave had done the same for his daughter.
When it comes to life and death, wealth is just an external thing.
This truth was understood by everyone, yet when the real choices had to be made, some people, selfishly and coldly, would choose to sacrifice their loved ones for wealth that could lead to destruction.
The choices made by Washington Co.’s father and son were moving, but they also made Alex and Cassy realize how much they cared for and loved the women in their lives. It was because these women were important to them that they could make such a sacrifice without any hesitation.
If these women were not related to them, why would they risk destroying a century-old family business by handing Washington Co. over to Bert?
Through each of these sudden incidents, Dave, whether protecting his daughter with his own body or sacrificing vast fortunes to protect her, had moved even Alex, who had always had complaints about him.
Cassy constantly advised him, reminding him that no one is perfect.
Dave had changed, and he was actively learning to be good to his daughter, working hard to improve his marriage. What was there to forgive?
Of course, Alex understood all these principles, but from his perspective, it was simply his strong love for his daughter.
Moreover, today Dave, with sincere intentions, had brought his daughter to visit the elderly couple again. He not only accompanied them in conversation but also offered to cook, making it hard for Alex to continue with his cold attitude.
So, looking at Cassy, Alex finally spoke up.
"Since he’s saying that, then there’s no need to go out and buy anything. Let’s just eat what we have."
Inviting Dave to join them for a meal was, in a way, indirectly accepting him as part of the family, right?
Dave, of course, noticed the underlying meaning in Alex’s words. Though his face remained calm, internally, he was feeling quite pleased.
Since Alex had spoken, Cassy no longer insisted and turned to go into the kitchen to tidy up.
Alex and Dave continued sitting there, drinking tea. Alex then asked Dave,
"What are your plans for the future? Are you just going to stay at home like this?"
Dave smiled and, with sincerity, asked Alex,
"If I told you that I actually want to stay at home like this, to enjoy the warmth and comfort that family brings, would you think I’m unambitious?"
"And what do you think?" Alex retorted with a sneer.
"Now you know the warmth of family?"
Dave took a sip of tea and smiled. Alex gave him a look before replying,
"Well, everyone has their own aspirations."
At that point, Dave truly couldn’t hold back his laughter. It seemed that his father-in-law was actually supportive of him staying at home!
So open-minded?
He didn’t mind his own daughter being the breadwinner?
As Dave was still enjoying the moment, Alex seemed to sense his amusement and quickly changed his tone.
"A man like you, with aspirations solely for family, is really rare."
This time, the tone was filled with mockery.
Dave couldn’t help it and chuckled softly.
This old man was too playful.
Really too playful—one moment he supported him, the next he was mocking him. Now, Dave finally understood where Laurent’s quirky personality came from.
Alex gave him an irritated look and said, "What’s so funny?"
Dave quickly stopped laughing, poured tea for Alex, and used this gesture to express his thanks for Alex’s gradual acceptance of him.
Dave knew that, given Alex’s temperament, if he directly thanked him, Alex would likely be embarrassed and angry. So instead, he thought it better to replace words with a good cup of tea.
During this time, Laurent called, concerned about how he was getting along with her father. Sitting lazily on the windowsill in her room, Dave confidently replied,
"I think we can remarry soon."
Implying that Alex was slowly coming to accept him. Laurent laughed on the other end,
"I told you, he wasn’t really going to make things hard for you."
