Chapter 284: Chapter 284- visiting

Laurent was quite touched. She also clearly understood that everything he was doing was for them to be together sooner, and she knew he was trying hard to win her father’s approval.

After thinking for a moment, she suggested,

"How about you take Emma back by yourself? I really don’t have time."

"You’re not going?" Dave immediately frowned.

"You’re going to take Emma? But not me?"

His first reaction was to frown.

"I’m afraid your dad might keep Emma and kick me out."

There was no way around it—Alex had left such a deep impact on Dave that just the thought of Alex made his head hurt.

With Laurent by his side, he felt more confident and courageous to go, but if it was just him, he didn’t want to go at all. With Laurent there, if Alex did anything dangerous, Laurent could speak up and stop Alex for him. But if he went alone with Emma, and Alex tried to make a move on him again, how could the little girl stop him?

"Don’t make my dad sound so rough!" Laurent said, both amused and a little angry.

"I’m not going back, but if you take Emma, wouldn’t that show more sincerity?"

Dave still had his brow furrowed, deep in thought.

"My dad is actually the softest-hearted. Don’t let his tough, cold exterior fool you; he’s all bark and no bite."

Laurent helped relieve Dave’s psychological burden.

"You’ve already done so much for me. In his heart, he’s already accepted you; he just won’t admit it out loud."

Dave was skeptical.

"Really?"

"Why would I lie to you?"

Laurent sighed a little, but her gaze toward him was sincere and serious.

"I also hope we can be together sooner."

If the incident with Bert taking away the mother and daughter hadn’t happened, perhaps Laurent would still be casually enjoying the process of falling in love with Dave, taking it slow and easy.

But after that event, she suddenly woke up.

Because with tomorrow and the unexpected, you never know which one will come first.

After considering it carefully, Dave decided to take their daughter to Laurent’s parents’ house for the weekend, while Laurent stayed at Burg Eltz to work overtime and accompany the client.

On the way to the small town with their daughter, Dave asked for her help in advance.

"If your grandfather is too harsh on Daddy, you have to help me out, okay?"

The little girl had no idea that her grandfather had once hit her father. She defended her kind grandfather, saying,

"How could that be? My grandpa is so nice! How could he be mean to you? No way!"

Dave thought to himself, your grandpa is indeed nice, but that’s to everyone else, not to me.

"Just remember, you have to help Daddy, okay?"

Dave couldn’t say much more to his daughter, so he simply reminded her.

"Okay."

The little girl answered, half-understanding.

Following Laurent’s suggestion, they didn’t warn Alex or Cassy in advance, thinking it would be a nice surprise.

When they arrived at Laurent’s house, Alex opened the door. Upon seeing Dave, he glanced inside but didn’t see his daughter, immediately scowling and asking,

"What are you doing here?"

Dave greeted him with a big smile.

"Of course, I’m here to visit you and Cassy."

Alex snorted coldly.

"Who needs you to visit?"

Then he ignored him, bent down to pick up the little girl, and started cuddling her.

"Sweetie, did you miss Grandpa?"

Although Alex said that Dave wasn’t needed for a visit, he was already holding the little girl and had opened the door to the side, clearly signaling for Dave to come in.

Dave saw everything but didn’t say anything. He carried a big bag full of items into the house—gifts for Alex and Cassy, including nutritional supplements and some practical, useful things.

Since Alex didn’t want to talk to Dave, he turned to the little girl instead.

"Where’s your mom?"

The little girl answered Alex.

"She’s working overtime, so it’s just me and Dad visiting you and Grandma."

Alex glanced at Dave, who was standing nearby. He had originally intended to say something, but upon seeing the glaring smile on Dave’s face, he decided to keep quiet.

Isn’t it said that you shouldn’t hit a smiling face?

Cassy wasn’t home; she had gone out to buy some things.

After a while, the little girl clung to Alex before running off to play by herself. The living room was left with just Dave and Alex, the two of them looking at each other in silence.

Alex didn’t want to talk to Dave, and Dave didn’t know what to say to Alex, afraid of saying something wrong and making things worse—what if he said the wrong thing and got kicked out?

In the end, Dave got up and brought over a box of coffee he had brought with him, tentatively offering it to Alex.

"This is some freshly brewed coffee from this year, would you like to try some?"

Alex glanced at him, got up, and was about to brew the coffee.

Dave quickly added, "I’ll make it."

He then went to the kitchen to boil water, and Alex followed him to the cupboard to get the coffee set.

Once the hot water was ready and the coffee set was in place, the two of them sat down on the couch across from each other and started to prepare, brew, and taste the coffee. For a moment, the earlier awkward silence was relieved.

People of Alex’s age often enjoy tasting coffee, so this little move from Dave was just the right thing to please him. For a while, Alex couldn’t find anything wrong with him.

On top of that, Dave was very good at engaging in easy yet deep conversation. A person who has been through negotiations knows how to read the other person’s mind. If Dave and Alex hadn’t been able to have a conversation before, it just meant that they hadn’t put their hearts into it.

At that time, Alex had a lot of complaints about him, and Dave hadn’t really taken Alex seriously either. In the end, neither of them had cared much about Laurent, so whenever they met, it was just a superficial conversation.

There was no in-depth exchange.

Now, at first, Alex was resistant to talking too much with Dave. But slowly, under Dave’s influence, Alex began to let go of his reservations. Without even realizing it, they started talking more.

So, when Cassy came back from buying groceries, she was surprised to see Alex and Dave sitting face to face, chatting happily. Cassy was stunned and kept looking at Alex with a suspicious gaze, thinking that her old man must have taken the wrong medicine.

As for Dave, when he saw Cassy come back, he was the first to get up and greet her. Only then did Cassy snap back to reality, and after looking around the room, she asked, "Has Laurent not come back?"

Dave replied, "No, she’s hosting a client, so I came with Emma."
