You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 291- old bachelor!
Eventually, without finding a good explanation, they arrived home. Father and daughter went upstairs.
Laurent had already returned. As soon as the little girl saw her, she excitedly ran over to report,
"Mommy! Daddy bought you a pretty dress as a reward!"
"Oh? Really?"
Laurent raised her hand and gently stroked her daughter’s little cheek. The girl continued,
"Yeah! Daddy said you did two especially amazing things last night and today that made him really happy, so he wanted to reward you!"
Laurent, "..."
She turned red with embarrassment and glared furiously at Dave. Words like last night, especially amazing, and made him very happy—how could he say that out loud?
How shameless was he to bring that up? If it hadn’t been for him pressuring her, she would never have given in to his whims!
But, in order to please the little girl, both men had to smile at each other, making her think they had made up. Yet, everyone knew their smiles were completely insincere.
Bert gritted his teeth and smiled.
"Your wonderful daughter!"
Dave’s smile was filled with pride.
"Too bad you don’t have one."
Bert sneered.
"You think I care?"
Dave countered,
"Don’t you envy me?"
"Crazy."
Bert said, his face full of disdain, then let go of Dave’s hand. After releasing it, they both took a step back, creating distance between them, still maintaining their forced smiles.
The little girl was very pleased with their performance and clapped her hands.
"That was awesome! That was awesome!"
Dave could no longer tolerate his daughter meddling like this. He walked up and picked her up.
"Let’s go, let’s hurry up and buy something for your mom."
If they stayed any longer, who knows what else she’d cause.
However, thinking about the "gift" he had planned to buy, it seemed a little inappropriate for a child. So, he returned and shoved the little girl into Bert’s arms without caring about Bert’s reaction. He only looked at his daughter and said,
"You stay here and play with Uncle for a while, Daddy will be back soon."
Then he turned and walked away.
Anyway, since Bert had taken the girl last time without any issues, he was sure nothing would happen this time either. He was confident leaving her with Bert.
Bert, feeling utterly frustrated, held the little girl in his arms and yelled at Dave’s retreating figure.
"Dave, are you crazy?"
Was he here to make Bert look after his kid?
And what was he going to buy, some shameless gift? Wasn’t he too embarrassed to bring his daughter along?
Bert was almost ready to explode from anger, but with the little girl still in his arms, he couldn’t continue to lose his temper.
Seeing that Dave had already disappeared into the elevator, he could only resign himself to the situation and reluctantly wait while taking care of the child.
As for the news that Dave told him about Daniel being discharged from the hospital, Bert only glanced at him and then remained silent, saying nothing.
"Goodbye."
Dave, holding his daughter, turned to leave. Bert noticed the bag in Dave’s hand, with the logo of a well-known lingerie brand. He immediately understood what Dave had bought and why he needed to avoid his daughter. A sneer appeared on Bert’s face, and his expression was full of disdain.
Dave had been about to leave but stopped when he saw Bert’s expression, feeling angry. He turned and questioned Bert, displeased.
"What’s with that look of yours? This stuff is to improve married life, okay?!"
With one hand holding his daughter and the other swinging the bag in front of Bert, he made his point.
Bert shot him a disgusted look in return, and Dave suddenly smiled.
"Though, you probably wouldn’t understand what married life is all about, old bachelor."
With that, Dave turned and walked away, holding his daughter.
Bert stood there, furious to the point of almost spitting blood. Was that how he was being described? An old bachelor?
That word...
It was just...
Crazy!
He had completely lost his interest in admiring the fashion and turned around, leaving the mall with a stomach full of anger. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
He had spent all that time watching the kid for Dave, only to be called an old bachelor!
Dave, having had his fun teasing Bert, was in an excellent mood. He carried the gift and took his daughter back home.
Along the way, the little girl was very curious about what he had bought. Of course, he couldn’t show her. Thankfully, the entire box was wrapped tightly, but the curious little girl managed to pull a little piece of soft lace out from the gap in the box.
"Wow, Dad, did you buy a beautiful dress for Mom?"
Dave had to hold back his laughter and replied, "Mm, I bought a dress."
It was indeed a dress, but a rather *special* one.
The little girl was overjoyed.
"Then when we get home, can we ask Mom to wear it and show us?"
Dave, "..."
He then awkwardly tried to explain to his daughter.
"This dress... Mom can only wear it for Dad to see."
The little girl was confused.
"Why? Isn’t a beautiful dress meant to be worn out for everyone to see?"
Dave was completely stumped by his little girl’s question. However, the fib he had told her could only be defended by pushing through with an explanation.
"Because when Mommy wears this dress, she will look very beautiful, and Daddy doesn’t want other people to see how beautiful Mommy is. If they do, many uncles will try to take Mommy away from Daddy, and then Daddy will be in trouble."
The little girl seemed to half understand, then asked, "But if Mommy gets taken away by other uncles, doesn’t that mean Daddy and Mommy won’t be together anymore?"
Dave quickly agreed, "Yeah, that’s why Mommy’s beauty can only be seen by Daddy, so no one will try to take Mommy from Daddy."
The little girl thought for a moment before responding, "But I’m not a man, I won’t take Mommy away, so I can see her, right?"
Dave, "..."
He was about to explode. How was he supposed to deal with such a quick-witted daughter?
But before she could even vent her frustration, she spotted the box in Dave’s hand. The famous brand logo on it made her heart ache instantly. She furiously questioned him,
"Dave, are you out of your mind? Why would you buy something so expensive? You know our financial situation isn’t what it used to be, don’t you?"
Laurent was well aware how ridiculously expensive that brand was, so her first reaction was to feel pain over the cost—completely forgetting what kind of products the brand actually sold.
Although their life wasn’t too tight right now, and she had just signed two big contracts which would bring her a substantial commission once fulfilled, that didn’t mean he could just spend money so recklessly.
