Chapter 294: Chapter 294- Impossible!

"You should have figured out by now whether or not you’re suited to manage Washington Co. these past few days. So whether you believe my good intentions or not is up to you!"

Bert stood there, his chest heaving with emotion, his gaze filled with inner conflict as he looked at Daniel.

In the end, he turned and rushed out, choosing to find a place where he could be alone to process everything.

For Bert, if he believed what Daniel said, it would mean that all these years, he had mistaken Daniel’s good intentions for cruelty, and everything he had done in the past would have been a mistake, making him a fool.

But if he didn’t believe Daniel, the reality of what he was experiencing at Washington Co. right now made it clear that he really wasn’t suited for it.

The next morning at the breakfast table, the little girl asked Laurent with concern,

"Mom, what happened last night? I think I heard you crying..."

Laurent felt embarrassed.

It was probably because when she had been begging him for mercy on the sofa the night before, he had gotten carried away and made some sounds, and his daughter had heard them.

The little girl asked with genuine concern, but the culprit was sitting beside her, calmly sipping his porridge and smiling. Laurent shot him a glare and then responded to her daughter,

"It’s nothing. Mommy had a nightmare and got scared."

The little girl simply said "Oh" and then lowered her head to continue eating.

Dave leaned in towards Laurent, whispering in her ear,

"Do you want me to make you have nightmares every night?"

Laurent had just peeled a soft-boiled egg that she intended to give to her daughter, but hearing his words, she immediately raised her hand and stuffed it into his mouth. Annoyed, she said,

"Just eat your food."

Dave took the egg from her, took a bite, and leisurely commented,

"Bouncy and soft, it’s delicious."

As he spoke, his gaze casually drifted down to her chest. With his unabashed gaze, Laurent immediately realized that he wasn’t talking about the egg at all, but about her...

She was so angry that her face turned red.

She couldn’t believe how shameless he was, throwing around dirty remarks like it was nothing.

In the past, the two of them rarely had such calm and warm conversations. And jokes like that were even more unlikely to be spoken. It was only when they were in bed that he would make a few dirty remarks. The rest of the time, he was cold and serious.

Laurent lowered her head to eat, too lazy to deal with him. Dave, on the other hand, chuckled softly but didn’t continue teasing her.

After breakfast, the three of them went about their day. Laurent went to work, Dave took their daughter to school, and then went to pick up Daniel from the hospital.

When Daniel was discharged from the hospital, Dave and Lilian went to pick him up, and Tiffany also joined them.

Lilian, linking her arm with Daniel’s, spoke with deep concern,

"Dad, what are we going to do? You’ll be living alone after you leave the hospital, and you’re still recovering from such a serious illness. How about I move back home to take care of you?"

As Lilian spoke these words, she was looking at Tiffany, intentionally making Daniel sound pitiful, hoping to soften Tiffany’s heart and discourage her from bringing up divorce again. Ideally, she hoped Tiffany would move back into the old house and live with her father.

Daniel quickly realized that his daughter’s words were subtly suggesting that Tiffany should move back in with him. He was startled. Right now, he was already content with how things were with Tiffany. Since he had already signed the divorce agreement, all he hoped for was that Tiffany wouldn’t push for them to finalize the divorce and get the certificate.

If Tiffany got angry because of his daughter’s suggestion and decided to insist on getting the divorce certificate, everything would be over.

Although Daniel had originally said that he didn’t want her to be unhappy for the rest of her life, the more he thought about it, the more he regretted it. He longed to reconcile with Tiffany, but the words had already been said, and the divorce agreement was signed. There was no going back. All he could do was pray that Tiffany wouldn’t bring up the divorce certificate.

When he was in the hospital, he could avoid it with an excuse. Now that he was out, if Tiffany pushed him, there was no way to escape.

So, after hearing his daughter’s words, he quickly interrupted her,

"It’s fine, it’s fine. The old house has servants and a butler. Everything will be taken care of, and you don’t have to move back. I’m not incapable of taking care of myself."

After completing the hospitalization procedures, Dave and his group walked out. Daniel took Dave’s car back to the old house, and as his daughter, Lilian, was going with him, they first dropped Tiffany off at her home. Tiffany didn’t suggest returning to the old house, and no one dared to take her there without asking.

Once Lilian returned to the old house and saw that Daniel had settled in, she was about to leave with peace of mind.

Daniel stopped her.

"Lilian, wait a moment, Dad needs to talk to you."

Then, looking at Dave, who had come back with them, he said, "Alright, it’s not about you. You can go do whatever you need to do."

Dave, being dismissed, could only glance at his father and sister before turning to leave.

Once Dave was gone, the first thing Daniel asked his daughter was,

"Has your mom brought up the topic of divorce again recently?"

Lilian shook her head.

"No, she hasn’t mentioned it at all."

Daniel let out a long sigh of relief before speaking somewhat awkwardly.

"Lilian, you know, Dad doesn’t truly want to divorce your mom, but as you know, I’ve already signed the divorce agreement..."

Lilian knew how her father was feeling. Seeing his sad expression made her feel upset too.

"Why don’t you try talking to Mom again? Tell her not to get a divorce."

Daniel sighed again.

"I’m afraid I can’t. I’m scared that if I bring it up, she’ll just tell me to go handle the divorce procedures right away."

Daniel took his daughter’s hand, pleading,

"So, Dad can only ask you for help. Please, try to say a few good things about me in front of your mom from now on. Help me convince her not to divorce me."

Lilian nodded vigorously.

"Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll definitely help you with this."

For Lilian, her wish was simple—she just wanted her parents to live long and happy lives, hoping they could continue to love and support each other.

Perhaps her father had made mistakes when he was younger. Before this, Lilian had always hesitated about whether to persuade her parents to reconcile. But after seeing how her father worried about and cared for her mother after Bert took her away, Lilian decided to help her father this time.

Hearing his daughter say this, Daniel finally felt a sense of relief.
