You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 295- apology message
Every day when Laurent arrived at the office, the first thing she did was open her computer to check her emails. However, among the many emails, she saw one from Bert.
After the fallout with Bert last time, Laurent had immediately canceled their business cooperation and had not had any contact with Bert since. Bert hadn’t reached out to her either.
So when Laurent suddenly received an email from Bert today, she felt uneasy, fearing that Bert might stir up some more trouble. At first, Laurent completely ignored the email and focused on dealing with other work-related messages.
It was almost noon when she finally had some free time and decided to open Bert’s email.
The attachment was a compressed file, and Laurent had no idea what it was at first.
The email’s content was only a few simple sentences:
"I apologize for the harm I’ve caused to you, your child, and your family during this time. Attached are the sketches of dresses designed for Xiao Nuan. I showed them to her yesterday, and she really liked them. If you like these designs, please contact the factory to have them made."
The email ended with the signature: Bert.
The content of the email shocked Laurent.
First, she never expected Bert to apologize to her. Secondly, she never imagined Bert would design dresses for her daughter.
Still in shock, Laurent downloaded and opened the compressed file. One by one, beautiful dress sketches appeared on the screen, stunning Laurent. No, it wasn’t just a shock—it was breathtaking.
The designs were simply too beautiful.
Laurent scrolled through and saw about a dozen sketches, each in different colors and styles.
No matter the color or the style, every dress was so charming, sweet, and lovely. Laurent could easily imagine how beautiful and captivating her daughter would look in these dresses. The little girl already loved looking pretty, so it wasn’t surprising that she would like them so much.
Laurent never expected this.
After looking at the designs for a while, Laurent finally snapped out of her shock and called Dave.
"Bert just sent me an email with a bunch of dress designs for Emma..."
Laurent’s tone was still filled with disbelief and shock
Dave wasn’t as surprised. He already knew about it because the little girl had reported it to him right away.
What he hadn’t expected was Bert’s speed—just yesterday, they were still rough sketches, and today they were fully finalized versions with color added. It was safe to assume that Bert had stayed up all night working on them.
Thinking about it, Dave even felt a bit jealous. After all, Bert was an outsider—why was he being so nice to his daughter? Why was he trying so hard to win her favor in such a way?
This thought made him a bit annoyed, so he responded to Laurent with a hint of irritation:
"Well, if he’s giving them, just take them. It’s free design work—might as well accept it."
Laurent understood that logic, of course, but this situation was about an apology. Bert had mentioned in the email that these designs were a way of expressing his apologies to their family for all these years.
That changed the nature of the situation.
The implication was clear—if she accepted these designs, it would mean accepting the reconciliation between Dave and Bert. If she didn’t accept them, it would mean not forgiving him.
Whether to accept or not, Laurent felt that this was something Dave should decide, since Bert was a blood relative of his, and she couldn’t make that decision for him.
However, since Dave had told her to accept the designs, Laurent didn’t have much else to say.
But the next moment, she asked,
"Why did he meet with Emma yesterday? And how did he get the chance to personally design dresses for her?"
"Hello? What did you say? The signal’s not very good on my end—hello, hello—"
Dave on the other end repeatedly said "hello" as if trying to get through, then used the poor signal as an excuse to hang up the phone. How could Dave tell Laurent that it was he who had handed their daughter over to Bert? After all, he was going out to buy something inappropriate for children, so he could only use this clumsy excuse to dodge the question.
Laurent was furious, and though she could guess his thoughts, she had no way of confronting him—he was just too crafty.
After hanging up, she thought for a moment and then replied to Bert’s email:
"Thank you for the designs for Emma. They’re beautiful."
A simple thank-you, without any extra words.
Bert didn’t reply.
And indeed, Bert had stayed up all night to finish these designs. After leaving Daniel’s hospital room the previous night, emotionally unstable, he still couldn’t calm down when he got home. He remembered his promise to design some dresses for Emma, so he took out the sketches and started adding color, thinking that this might be the only way to calm his emotions.
He made some modifications to the styles and added some new designs that came to him as sudden inspirations.
By the time he finished organizing everything and was ready to send the email to Laurent, the sky was already beginning to lighten.
Originally, he just planned to send the pictures directly, but after thinking it over for a while, he decided to include the apology message as well.
After sending the email to Laurent, Bert buried his head in his pillow and fell asleep.
For him, offering an apology meant acknowledging all the mistakes he had made over the years, and it also meant accepting the well-intentioned advice Daniel had given him in the hospital room that evening.
It was his fault, all of it was his fault.
And for Bert, this night felt like a rebirth.
On Laurent’s end, she sent the design sketches to the factory’s sample room, asking them to help make a prototype when they had time.
Laurent believed the finished dresses would turn out stunning, and her little girl would be absolutely thrilled with them.
As she sent the email, Laurent couldn’t help but smile helplessly. She never expected her daughter, Emma Washington, to receive such treatment from Bert. She had no idea how the little girl had managed to win Bert over.
Furthermore, Bert hadn’t caused trouble for Tiffany or Emma last time, which, in some way, suggested that his nature might not be as wicked as she had believed. As for Bert’s apology this time, Laurent didn’t know what had caused him to act this way, but since Dave wasn’t pursuing it anymore, she felt there was no need to continue harboring hostility toward Bert.
After taking care of the sample room, Laurent went to Matthew’s office to ask about the fate of the design sketches Bert had created last time.
Matthew smiled as he picked up the stack of sketches on his desk.
"I was just about to have the secretary shred these and destroy them."
Laurent asked,
"Aren’t you planning to continue working with him?"
At the time, Laurent had stepped back from the project herself, thinking that Matthew would transfer Bert’s business to another colleague.
However, Matthew replied,
"I think continuing to work with him wouldn’t be fair to you or to Lord Washington."
The news about the Washington family’s change of ownership spread throughout Burg Eltz. Matthew, of course, was aware of it. The sudden shift in power could not have been achieved by legitimate means, and before this, there had never been any rumors about Dave stepping down. So, when the news broke, many of Dave’s business allies in Burg Eltz were disgusted by Bert’s actions.
Because of this, Matthew decided to cancel his collaboration with Bert. Moreover, Laurent was one of his most trusted aides, and Matthew feared that continuing the partnership would make her uncomfortable.
Matthew still referred to Dave as Lord Washington, which made Laurent feel a little embarrassed.
"He’s already stepped down, so you don’t need to call him Lord Washington anymore," she said.
Matthew smiled.
