Chapter 298: Chapter 298- I had no idea

After chatting with Vivian and the others in the group, Laurent went to take a shower. She figured the conversation had probably died down by then.

Meanwhile, Dave was holding her phone, watching a video the kindergarten teacher had sent—footage of their daughter dancing at school that day. Dave was completely mesmerized. Out of all the kids, he was convinced their daughter was the cutest, the best dancer, with the sweetest and most adorable smile. The more he watched, the more smitten he became.

Then another message popped up on Laurent’s phone. Absentmindedly, Dave tapped it open—and instantly saw the group chat from earlier that evening. He read through Laurent’s complaints about gaining weight... and then Zoey’s comment:

"Behind every woman who keeps gaining weight... is a man who’s no good in bed."

That? That Dave could not tolerate.

And honestly, most men probably wouldn’t.

Thinking back, it was true—they hadn’t done anything for a few days. She had been absolutely exhausted lately, falling asleep the moment her head hit the pillow. Out of concern for her, Dave hadn’t pushed. He just wanted her to rest.

But now? Now his pride had been challenged. And he wasn’t about to let that slide.

So when Laurent came out of the shower, she was promptly tackled onto the bed. The man leaned in close, nibbling on her earlobe, murmuring suggestively in her ear:

"Gained a little weight recently?"

Laurent dodged his kisses, responding with a bit of frustration:

"Yeah... two kilos."

His hand slipped under her pajama top.

"Then let’s work out a little."

Laurent groaned and tried to push him off.

"Nooo, I’m tired. I just want to sleep."

"Then you sleep, and I’ll do the work. I’ll handle the workout for you."

As she tried to squirm away, he was already on the offensive—methodically stripping her bare with practiced hands.

"Where exactly did you gain weight?"

"Let me check."

His large, burning-hot hands roamed slowly over her body.

"Here?"

"Or maybe... here?"

Wherever his palms landed, they somehow always found her most sensitive spots. Her body trembled involuntarily under his touch, soft moans slipping from her lips before she could stop them.

He let out a low chuckle.

"So defenseless against me, huh?"

Laurent’s face flushed crimson.

"Am I supposed to *not* react to you?"

"Of course not. I *love* how you get like this—losing control, giving in to me without even trying to fight it."

His voice dropped low and husky, wrapping around her like smoke.

And then, without giving her a chance to respond, he captured her lips in a fierce, possessive kiss—dragging her down into the heat with him.

She clung to him instinctively, her breath catching as his kisses deepened, trailing from her lips down her neck. Her protests melted into sighs, fingers tightening against his back. The world outside faded into nothing—just the heat between them, the rhythm of hearts colliding, and a hunger neither wanted to tame.

The young lady of Burg Eltz, Lilian, one day pulled a stunt that left people both amused and exasperated.

She suddenly showed up at her mother Tiffany’s place with a pile of documents, stuffing them into the bedside drawer. Her reason? "Important documents, nowhere else to store them," she claimed.

Then, just a few days later, she took them all back again, saying she’d found a better place to keep them.

Coincidentally—or not—when she took her papers back, she "accidentally" took with her the signed divorce agreement between her parents that had been sitting quietly in Tiffany’s drawer.

At first, Tiffany didn’t notice. But one day while tidying up the room, she realized the divorce agreement had vanished.

Recalling her daughter’s odd behavior from a few days ago, Tiffany couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.

She had always thought Lilian was a simple-hearted girl—turns out she was full of tricks. The whole document storage story was clearly a setup just to take the agreement away.

She called Lilian to confront her. On the other end of the line, Lilian sounded all innocence:

"I didn’t notice your divorce papers, Mom. I just took my stuff and fed it all through the shredder without checking..."

In other words, the agreement no longer existed.

Tiffany: "..."

She was fuming but wasn’t the type to yell or scream. Instead, she gritted her teeth and said,

"Lilian, don’t show your face in front of me for the next week. I need a break from you."

And hung up.

Lilian, on the other end, patted her chest and stuck out her tongue in relief.

That was close. Only a week of being grounded—clearly, things weren’t that bad. If it had been a month or longer, *then* she’d be in real trouble.

Okay, fine, she admitted it: she *had* intentionally taken the divorce agreement to destroy it.

Lately, she’d been visiting her father often, and every time he mentioned that piece of paper, he was nervous, constantly worried Tiffany would show up one day demanding a divorce.

She couldn’t bear to see him like that anymore. So, after a certain someone planted the idea, she made the sneaky decision to get rid of the agreement—without her dad knowing, of course. He definitely wouldn’t have allowed it if he had.

Back on Tiffany’s end, after hanging up on Lilian, she calmed herself down for a while, then dialed Daniel’s number.

She didn’t believe her daughter would come up with something like this on her own—this had to be Daniel’s doing.

Truth be told, although Daniel had already signed the divorce papers and handed them over to her, she hadn’t really planned to go through with the divorce.

Had it not been for Bert taking the kids... had she not learned that Daniel begged Dave to hand over Washington Co. for her safety... had she not found out he was hospitalized from the stress of worrying about her...

If none of that had happened, she probably *would* have filed for divorce the moment she got the signed papers.

But after everything that happened, she just... didn’t feel like going through with it anymore. After all, wasn’t she the one cooking for him every day while he was in the hospital?

Still, whether or not she filed was *her* decision. If Daniel had truly ordered their daughter to destroy the divorce agreement, that crossed a line—it meant he didn’t respect her choice.

So she called him to confront him directly.

"If this is your way of making sure I can’t divorce you, then you’ve really left me nothing to hold on to."

Daniel picked up the phone and, after hearing the whole story, immediately denied her accusations in a firm, righteous tone:

"I had nothing to do with that. I swear—I had no idea she did that!"
