You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 299- awful idea
"I only asked our daughter to help persuade you not to divorce me, but I never told her to destroy the divorce agreement!"
Daniel kept defending himself, while Tiffany let out a cold laugh.
"You say you didn’t tell her to do it—who would believe that?"
Tiffany didn’t believe a word Daniel said. In her eyes, their daughter was a simple, kind-hearted girl who would never do something so reckless on her own. But even a rabbit will bite when cornered. What she didn’t know was that their daughter had gone all out to stop their divorce. And what she really didn’t know was that someone unreliable had given their daughter that awful idea.
That "someone"—a certain boss—used the excuse of cheering up his gloomy ex-employee to trick her into having dinner with him.
The boss said, since her father was so worried about the signed divorce agreement, why not just destroy it?
And that’s how the whole mess started.
"I—"
Daniel was at a complete loss for words.
Tiffany went on coldly,
"Daniel, if this is how you treat me, then I’m truly disappointed in you."
Her voice was like ice. Daniel panicked and blurted out,
"Tiffany, please listen to me! I really didn’t tell her to do it. If—if I did, then let me be hit by a car when I walk out the door! Let me die without ever receiving your forgiveness!"
In his desperation, Daniel could only use such vicious words to prove his innocence. Tiffany went silent on the other end.
"You—"
In the end, she was so angry she just hung up.
For Daniel to curse himself that viciously—it probably meant he really didn’t orchestrate it. But if it wasn’t Daniel behind it... could their daughter really have come up with such a scheming move on her own?
After Tiffany hung up on him, Daniel immediately grabbed his car keys and rushed out the door. He couldn’t just sit there and wait for disaster. He had to go to Tiffany in person and prove his innocence. If she kept thinking it was all his doing, then he’d lose completely.
When it came to their daughter, Daniel didn’t even know whether he should be angry with her or proud of her.
Destroying that divorce agreement had instantly removed his biggest worry—so maybe he should praise her.
But now that Tiffany was blaming everything on him because of it, he couldn’t help but feel angry at what she’d done.
Sigh—
Such a mix of joy and frustration.
Still, he called his daughter and told her to head over to Tiffany’s place if she had time—to help prove that he really was innocent.
The "junior employee" received her father’s call and frowned, troubled.
After a long moment, she sent a message to a certain boss:
What should I do?
My mom’s blaming my dad for everything. It’s obvious she doesn’t believe I’d come up with something like this on my own.
The boss replied quickly:
You could choose to tell them about me. Let them know it was me behind the scenes who told you to do this. That way, your mom will believe it wasn’t your dad’s idea.
The moment she read that, she nearly had a heart attack. Drag him into this?
She instantly refused, in no uncertain terms:
No way!
And with that, she ended the conversation with that certain boss and decided to go deal with the mess between her parents herself.
Daniel arrived at Tiffany’s place before Lilian did. Tiffany had no intention of letting him in, but he pushed his way through the door anyway. He forced himself inside because he knew—if this situation wasn’t handled properly, he might really lose Tiffany for good.
Once inside, Tiffany ignored him completely. Daniel had no choice but to follow her around, explaining as he went.
"Tiffany, I swear I didn’t do something like that. Please, just believe me this one time. Look at where we are now—I live every day walking on eggshells, just begging you not to divorce me. Why on earth would I go and do something as reckless as destroying the divorce agreement and make you even angrier?"
Daniel wished he could rip out his heart and show it to her.
After all these years of living together, he knew Tiffany well. He understood that if he destroyed the divorce agreement, she would see it as the ultimate disrespect. That’s why—even if he wanted to do it deep down—he never acted on it.
Daniel’s plan had been to slowly and gently rebuild things with Tiffany. During his time in the hospital, she’d brought him meals every single day without fail. He had felt it—those subtle shifts in her attitude, the faint signs of her softening...
There was no way he’d risk all that by pulling such a drastic move. But their daughter? She’d always seemed like such a naïve, carefree girl... How could she have pulled off something this dramatic?
"So you tell me," Daniel said, voice tight, "how could our daughter come up with the idea of destroying the divorce papers?"
Tiffany was thinking the same thing as Daniel—she didn’t believe their daughter could’ve come up with such a scheme on her own. She saw the sincerity in Daniel’s eyes, and deep down, she wanted to believe him... but somehow, she just couldn’t.
Daniel really did look innocent.
"I have no idea when she got so cunning," he said, trying to defend himself. "Maybe it’s because of all the scheming she’s had to deal with at work. After a while, I guess she picked up a few tricks herself."
Tiffany let out a cold snort, clearly not buying it.
The two of them were still locked in a tense standoff when Lilian walked through the door.
Both Daniel and Tiffany turned their eyes at the same time toward the true culprit—their daughter. Lilian let out a dry chuckle as she walked toward them.
"Mom, let me just say this clearly first—this whole thing really had nothing to do with Dad. He didn’t know a thing."
She added earnestly, "Dad’s already terrified of making you angry. How could he possibly dare to tell me to destroy the divorce agreement?"
As she looked at her mother, Lilian’s tone was full of sincerity, clearly trying to speak up for her father.
Tiffany shot her a sharp glare.
"Don’t tell me you came up with that idea all by yourself!"
Lilian walked over, looped her arm through Tiffany’s, and started acting sweet, trying her best to win her mother’s trust.
"Mom, why couldn’t I have thought of it on my own? I’d do anything to stop you and Dad from getting divorced!"
There was no way Lilian would ever admit there was someone else behind it all. If she were still dating Morrison, maybe she’d have told them. But now that they’d broken up—and he’d even moved on with someone new—there was no way she’d bring up his name now. It’d just make things messy.
Still, neither Tiffany nor Daniel believed her. They had watched their daughter grow up—they knew her. Lilian had always been kind, open-hearted, and simple. She never had a mean or scheming bone in her body. There was no way she could’ve come up with something like this.
So Lilian doubled down, trying to shoulder everything to make them believe her.
"Mom, Dad, you guys think I’m too good, that’s the problem. Honestly, I’ve done a lot of bad things behind your backs."
Like, she thought silently, dating a total playboy. And not just dating—she had gone after him first.
Sure, she eventually got scared and tried to back off, but he came back for her. Still, she was the one who started it all.
