You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 44- Leonardo
Dave’s condescending tone and arrogant attitude made Laurent’s fury burn. She had a bottle of unopened mineral water in her hand, and she raised it to angrily smash it into his chest. Then, with a furious outburst, she cursed:
"Dave, fuck you!"
Laurent no longer cared about the public setting or about using bad language. She was so enraged that she lost all rationality. It would be no exaggeration to say she was absolutely livid.
After shouting at him, she kicked her suitcase over and stormed off.
Her phone was still in his hand. She didn’t want it anymore. She didn’t want her luggage either. To hell with it! She wasn’t going anywhere anymore. Could he just stop haunting her, showing up in front of her and telling her what to do?
Laurent had never been this angry in her life. She was always gentle and friendly with others, and no one had ever made her shout and scream like this before.
She rushed out of the airport lobby, hopped into a taxi, told the driver the address of her parents’ small town, and then leaned back in the seat, closing her eyes to calm her raging emotions.
She never wanted to see him again in her life!
Meanwhile, inside the airport lobby, Dave was still in disbelief after her violent outburst. He couldn’t believe the harsh words had come from her, nor could he believe that she had smashed a bottle of water into him. The pain on his shoulder, where the bottle had hit him, was a painful reminder of her strength.
After a moment, his face darkened. He stormed out, but by the time he reached the exit, he saw her speeding away in a taxi. He still had her phone in his hand, but he couldn’t reach her to ask her to stop.
Behind him, a man in black was holding her suitcase.
"Lord Washington, what should we do with this suitcase?"
Dave gave a dark look at the suitcase. He was tempted to just tell them to throw it away, but he clenched his teeth and said:
"Put it in my car."
The man carrying the suitcase walked toward Dave’s car. Dave, holding Laurent’s phone with a furious expression, angrily sat in his car and drove off.
On the way back to the city from the airport, Dave’s face remained dark as he drove. His mind kept replaying the image of her angry outburst.
Over and over again.
In all the years she had been by his side, she had always been quiet and obedient. He had never seen her this angry before.
Even in the early days of their marriage, when he deliberately hurt and neglected her, she never once raised her voice or threw a tantrum.
And when she was in school, she was well known for having great relationships with everyone.
Of course, this was all something she had bragged about to him, telling him with pride.
He could easily imagine how her bright and cheerful personality would make her so likable.
But that person, who had never known what it was like to get angry, had just been pushed to the point of violence and insults...
Thinking back to her tear-filled eyes when she turned and walked away, he suddenly wondered if he had really gone too far.
Her phone, which was placed in the passenger seat, suddenly rang. He glanced at it and saw it was a call from Marylin.
Dave couldn’t answer, so he just let the ringtone ring on.
After Marylin called a few times without getting through, she switched to sending voice messages—one after another.
He unlocked the phone to check, and it was Marylin asking if she had boarded the plane smoothly and saying she was already ready to pick her up from the airport. She asked Laurent to reply when she had the chance.
The reason he was able to unlock her phone was because her phone had registered his fingerprint.
He remembered that when she first bought this phone, the first thing she did was insist that he place his hand on her phone to register his fingerprint. After it was done, she hugged his arm and smiled brightly, saying that it meant her phone was always open to him, symbolizing that she had no secrets or hidden things from him.
He couldn’t recall how he had felt at the time, only remembering that he had lowered his head to kiss her, and she had eagerly responded by wrapping her arms around his neck. Then... everything had escalated uncontrollably.
He found himself lost in memories of the past, but Marylin’s endless stream of voice messages snapped him back to reality.
Since she hadn’t answered her phone or replied to any messages, and had completely cut off contact, Marylin was getting worried and kept asking if everything was okay, urging her to reply soon.
Marylin’s anxious concern began to spread to Dave. He suddenly wondered if she had taken a taxi alone without her phone or luggage—was she safe?
Moreover, her emotional state had been unstable. Was she in danger? What if she had suicidal thoughts?
Thinking of this, his grip on the steering wheel tightened. He took out his own phone and called a friend who worked at the police station, asking for help to pull up surveillance footage from the airport and various intersections to track her whereabouts.
Unable to reach her, Marylin turned to their group chat for help:
"Vivian, can you get in touch with Laurent? She said she was coming to Manchester to relax today, but I haven’t heard from her."
"Zoey, has Laurent contacted you? Could she have changed her mind and gone to you instead?"
Vivian replied to Marylin:
"Hold on, I’ll try calling her."
Then Vivian’s number appeared on her phone. Dave, feeling unsettled and irritated by their constant calls, pressed the hang-up button.
Not long after, Zoey’s call came through, and Dave once again pressed the hang-up button.
The small group chat among the four women erupted. Vivian sent a crying emoji:
"What should we do? What if something happens to her? I tried calling and it went straight to voicemail."
Zoey responded more calmly and rationally:
"I tried calling too, but it got hung up. Could she be in a situation where she can’t answer?"
Marylin also calmed down:
"That makes sense. Didn’t she say that she had already moved on after the divorce? She’s totally done with Dave, she won’t do anything reckless."
While waiting for the traffic light, Dave glanced at Marylin’s message, and his expression darkened even further.
Vivian suddenly panicked again:
"Oh no! What if she’s with Leonardo right now, and that’s why she isn’t answering our calls?"
Marylin and Zoey both replied with question marks, and Vivian quickly explained:
"Frank from our place said that after Leonardo heard she had divorced, he stopped focusing on his ads. Maybe he’s rushing over to be with her?"
Dave furrowed his brows at the mention of Leonardo.
The name *Leonardo* sounded familiar to Dave, but he couldn’t immediately place who it was.
Then, seeing Vivian mention something about advertisements, it slowly clicked in his mind.
Leonardo was a very popular male celebrity now.
He vaguely remembered that when Laurent had been obsessed with him in the past, there was a guy named Leonardo who seemed to be pursuing her. After they got married, it seemed like Laurent and Leonardo had stopped interacting.
However, at that time, Leonardo had still been just a student. In just a few years, he had become a top celebrity.
And then there was the mention of "coming back after hearing about her divorce"—that piqued Dave’s interest.
Vivian’s words made Dave’s anger flare up, so he stopped the car, sharply turning the steering wheel and pulling over to the side of the road. He grabbed Laurent’s phone and started reading through the messages.
Vivian was speaking to herself again:
"That doesn’t make sense... Leonardo’s overseas, there’s no way he could come back so quickly. Ugh, what’s going on with little Laurent? I’m so worried!"
Zoey responded, trying to calm Vivian down:
"Don’t stress, you’re pregnant, keep your emotions in check."
Marylin was fuming and biting her teeth:
"I told her from the start that she shouldn’t have married that arrogant, self-centered Dave. But she wouldn’t listen. Now look at this, she’s all bruised up, and we’re here worrying for her too."
"Dave never loved her. I still don’t get why she went through with it. A marriage with no love? She stuck with it for five years? I’m really dumbfounded."
Marylin, always quick-tempered, vented her frustrations after repeatedly failing to contact Laurent.
Her love for Laurent made her frustrations sharper.
She grew more heated:
"You all talk about how good Leonardo was. He chased her since freshman year, all the way up to the day before she was supposed to marry Dave. And now, he’s still thinking about her. If Laurent isn’t with him this time, I swear I’m cutting ties with her!"
Vivian eagerly agreed:
"Exactly! If she turns down Leonardo again, I’m done with her too!"
Zoey, as always, stepped in at the right moment to keep everyone grounded:
"Stop getting worked up. Right now, the most important thing is figuring out how to get in touch with Laurent."
Meanwhile, Dave, watching the discussion unfold, felt his expression grow even darker.
