Chapter 64: Chapter 64- A business trip

Is this his real sister?

To prevent him from getting Laurent’s phone number, she actually came running over in the middle of the night!

So that night, Lilian arrived and used her own phone to let the little girl video chat with her mom. The two of them locked themselves in a room and chatted with Laurent. Dave had originally planned to bring them some fruit, but as he stood outside the door, he overheard Lilian complaining to Laurent, saying that their kitchen and dressing room looked like they had been through a battlefield.

Angrily, he turned around and left, not even bothering to bring them the fruit.

The next day, he’d have his secretary find a housekeeper who could come every day to clean. As long as he spent the money, how could he worry about his home not being neat and tidy?

What he didn’t understand was that there were many things money couldn’t buy. Hiring a housekeeper could ensure his house was clean, neat, and orderly, but it wouldn’t buy her affection for him.

For the next three days, Dave stubbornly continued to take care of his daughter himself, and each day was spent in this hectic, exhausting routine. Because he had focused some of his energy on taking care of his daughter, his work efficiency dropped significantly, and he even lost a client because of it.

By the third evening, he couldn’t take it anymore. After picking his daughter up from kindergarten, he went straight to his mother Tiffany’s house for refuge.

For all these years, he had always thought that Laurent’s role at home—taking care of the kids and cooking—was an easy one. It was only now that he realized, in fact, she had a lot to do every day, and she was just as tired, if not more so, than he was.

He had always believed that he was the one who contributed the most to this family because he worked tirelessly at the company every day, providing them with the best financial conditions.

He was the breadwinner of the family, and it was only natural that he thought of himself as the most important person.

But after these few days of taking care of his daughter, he completely changed his perspective.

He had only lasted three days and was already unable to keep up, but she had been doing it for over three years.

As a mother who had experienced the growth of both her son and daughter, Tiffany didn’t need to ask anything. She knew exactly why he had brought his granddaughter over—he could no longer handle it.

Many things in life can only be truly understood once you experience them yourself, and their difficulty and challenges become clear.

It was like taking care of children. Men always assume that women at home looking after kids are doing an easy and enjoyable task, not realizing that caring for children is actually the most exhausting thing. He should have a deep understanding of this after the past few days.

There’s a saying that goes, "The achievements belong to both of us, half yours, half mine."

Men work hard for their careers, but this is only possible because there must be a capable woman at home who takes care of everything, allowing them to charge forward without worry.

However, Tiffany didn’t expect her son to still be so stubborn. Even though he clearly couldn’t handle the child anymore, he still casually told her,

"I’m going on a business trip tomorrow, and I need you to look after Emma for the next few days."

Tiffany was speechless at her son’s stubbornness but didn’t confront him. If he wanted to be strong-headed, let him. Eventually, there would come a time when he couldn’t maintain that strength, and when his pride couldn’t hold up anymore.

Lilian had been busy preparing for an exam these past few days, so she had been staying at school.

The next evening, when Lilian came home and saw her niece, Emma Washington, she walked over and gave the little girl a few kisses. Then, unable to hold back, she began to complain to her mother about Dave. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Can’t my brother handle Emma anymore?"

Tiffany responded with a teasing tone, repeating her son’s words.

"He said he’s going on a business trip starting today, so he asked me to look after her for a few days."

"Ha—"

Lilian couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

"A business trip?"

Lilian was laughing so hard.

"I was just out having dinner with a few people from our dorm, and I happened to run into him while paying the bill. He was with the older brother from the Mo family, and he’s going on a business trip? This is just too funny!"

Lilian could already imagine the proud look on Dave’s face when he told their mother he was going on a business trip and asked her to take care of the child. It was just a matter of saving face at the expense of himself.

Tiffany shrugged her shoulders, speechless at her son’s behavior.

After Lilian stopped laughing, she suddenly seemed to remember something and continued complaining to her mother.

"By the way, my brother is really stingy. When he saw me paying the bill, he didn’t even offer to pay for it. He’s even worse than Morrison, who just waved his hand and had the restaurant put our bill under his name."

When Tiffany heard her daughter mention Morrison, she suddenly remembered the conversation she had with Linda during their spa visit.

It was Linda who had first complained to her, saying that her eldest son, Morrison, was getting older but still refused to settle down and get married. He was the same age as Dave, and Dave already had a daughter several years old, yet Morrison didn’t even have anyone suitable to marry, which meant Linda had no grandchildren to spoil.

Linda also mentioned how Tiffany went to pick up and drop off her granddaughter every day, and how people kept calling her "Lady" out of admiration. It made Linda envious beyond belief.

Tiffany could only comfort Linda, telling her that there were advantages to not getting married, as she herself was currently dealing with the hassle of her son marrying and then divorcing, which was much more troubling.

But Linda, whose mind was now fully focused on having grandchildren, was not in the mood to listen to her words. She kept criticizing Morrison for not getting married and having children, calling him unfilial.

As Linda continued to vent, she grew angry and decided to stop worrying about her eldest son. Since he wouldn’t listen, she decided to pin her hopes on her younger son, Karl.

Karl was studying abroad and would be returning to China after finishing his studies this year.

When Linda spoke about her younger son, she suddenly became very excited and asked her,

"I remember Lilian graduated from college this year, right?"

Before she could respond, Linda eagerly continued with her suggestion.

"You see, Karl will be graduating and returning home this year, and Lilian has graduated too. They’re about the same age and will surely have things in common. Plus, both our families know each other well, we’re all familiar with each other..."

By this point, Tiffany already understood what Linda meant. She smiled and replied to Linda.

"I’m not sure if Lilian has a boyfriend. If she does, then this wouldn’t be very appropriate..."

Linda thought what she said made sense.

"Then go home and ask Lilian. If she doesn’t have a boyfriend, when Karl comes back, we can introduce them."

Tiffany didn’t express any opposition.
