You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 66- She was too greedy
Dave silently took a sip of his drink.
The afternoon right after he made his public statement, Clark’s caregiver had called him, saying that after seeing the statement, Clark had lost control of her emotions.
She had been crying loudly in the room, screaming hysterically, and the caregiver had to administer a sedative to calm her down.
He had known that his statement would upset Clark, so he had mentally prepared himself for it.
After receiving the call, he went to the villa to visit Clark, and when he saw her, her eyes were already swollen from crying.
Seeing him, she began to accuse him wildly,
"Dave, are we just ’ordinary friends’? Are we just ’ordinary friends’?"
"I’ve loved you all these years, haven’t I? You loved me too, didn’t you?"
"If it wasn’t for your dad, if it wasn’t for Laurent, if it wasn’t for Bert, we should’ve been together a long time ago!"
"We’d already have children by now! How could I not be able to have kids? How could I have gone mad like this?"
As Clark spoke, her emotions became more and more agitated. She pressed her hands tightly against her head, her dark hair tangled and messy, looking like a woman possessed.
Seeing Clark like this made Dave’s heart ache deeply.
He didn’t know why he had made the decision to publicly state that he and Clark were just "ordinary friends." It seemed that ever since that deep conversation with Morrison, where Morrison suggested that the failure of his marriage with Laurent was because of his close relationship with Clark, he instinctively began to distance himself from Clark.
There was also the incident that Laurent had mentioned in the café, which he had reconsidered and felt there was something suspicious about it.
But with Clark’s current mental state, he hadn’t had the chance to ask her directly.
In fact, when Laurent first brought it up, the reason he had so emotionally denied Laurent’s words was because he was a bit ashamed and angry.
Because if, at that moment, he confirmed that it was indeed Clark’s doing, confirming that Clark was really the kind of person who played manipulative games, it would have indirectly proven that his judgment in the past was wrong, and he would have slapped himself across the face.
So, he didn’t want to admit it. His instinct was to say that Clark wasn’t like that.
In his heart, the old Clark wasn’t this calculating and scheming person. Perhaps it was because his judgment back then was poor, or maybe Clark had changed over the years.
And it was always when Clark was having one of her episodes that he would stay with her at night. But that time, he had left, using taking care of his daughter as an excuse.
It wasn’t really an excuse—he did need to care for his daughter.
The next day, Clark called him again. This time, her emotions were calmer. She apologized sadly:
"Dave, I’m sorry. I was emotionally unstable yesterday and lost control."
"It’s all my fault."
Her tone was somewhat gloomy:
"You were right to publicly say we’re just ordinary friends. Because that’s all we are now—just former lovers who once loved each other."
As she spoke, Clark gave a self-deprecating laugh:
"So, how could I blame you for calling us ordinary friends? So, I apologize for my rude behavior yesterday."
"Nothing."
Dave didn’t want to admit that his actions were actually connected to a woman he had divorced.
"This matter concerns a project I’m currently working on, so I need to maintain my image. You don’t need to apologize. The fault isn’t with you."
His words left Clark silent for a moment, and then she suddenly began crying again.
"I didn’t know this would have such a big negative impact on your company’s project. It must have been Bert. Only he would want to destroy you and the Washington family, just like he destroyed your father!"
"You don’t know, when I was with him, he constantly told me how much he hated you all!"
When Clark said this, she seemed to grit her teeth.
"He said he hated your birth for taking everything that should have been his. He said he hated that you have everything—love, success, a company—while he has nothing. He said he also hated your parents, your family, hated everything about the Burg Eltz family. He said he would ruin you all! That’s why he took me, tortured me—to see you in pain!"
Clark’s words darkened the look in Dave’s eyes even further. If this really was Bert’s ultimate goal, then Dave couldn’t just sit back anymore.
He needed to take action and uproot Bert, once and for all, to eliminate the threat.
Morrison, used to Dave’s silence, took a sip of his drink and then spoke.
"As for the project, I’m done with it. I’ve handled the PR work up front, but the rest of the mess you’ve created, that’s all on you. When that little French old man shows up, you’ll need to deal with it yourself."
"When that happens, I’ll just choose to go on vacation."
Morrison was irritated just thinking about it. He had already set up a plan to deal with everything, but Dave had stubbornly refused to publicly acknowledge his divorce.
As for the mess that followed, Morrison couldn’t be bothered to care.
And facing Morrison’s refusal to get involved, Dave wasn’t angry. Instead, he elegantly cut into the steak in front of him and said, "Last time, you offended a little young model, and someone took advantage of her while she was asleep, throwing all her clothes off—nothing left on her. She got stuck in the hotel room and couldn’t get out. It was me who brought her some clothes to save her, remember?"
"Cough, cough—"
Morrison choked on his drink as soon as he heard this. Dave always knew which sore spot to hit. Morrison had been in the dating scene for so many years and had never really messed up—except with that model.
That time wasn’t really his fault, though. If anyone was to blame, it was the model herself. She was too greedy.
She thought that by being with him, she could get whatever she wanted, or maybe she was just too full of herself, thinking she was his one and only, unmatched in the world. That’s why she dared act so arrogantly.
A smart woman would never ask a man for this or that. If she took care of him, made him happy, he’d naturally make sure she wasn’t taken advantage of.
But some women were just foolish. They couldn’t wait to ask for this and that, afraid they wouldn’t get another chance in the future.
So when that model kept pestering him for things one day, he simply got fed up and told her to get lost.
And that led to what Dave had just mentioned.
