Chapter 79: Chapter 79- He regretted it.

However, because he was facing Alex at this moment, no matter how much anger and dissatisfaction he felt inside, he couldn’t vent it.

He just let out a low laugh, then spoke,

"She just got divorced a few days ago, and you’re already so eager to arrange a blind date for her? Aren’t you worried that she hasn’t even fully moved on from her past marriage yet?"

Dave spoke confidently.

She had once loved him so deeply, and even though they were divorced now, there was no way she would forget him that quickly.

"No worries!"

Alex’s response was firm.

"Laurent told me herself that she doesn’t care about you anymore."

Dave’s face immediately darkened, his expression as grim as could be.

Alex pretended not to notice the look on his face and continued talking.

"Laurent may be divorced, but she’s still young. She’ll be 28 after the New Year. Many women in their thirties aren’t even married yet. So, if she decides to find someone new, it won’t affect her at all. She won’t be delaying having children."

"If she finds someone suitable this year, they can date for two years, get married at thirty, and then have kids. It’s not too late."

Alex was deliberately trying to provoke him.

"Once she looks for someone again, her mom and I are going to make sure she picks someone who truly cares for her. Finding someone she’s madly in love with isn’t enough. If that person doesn’t feel the same, she’ll be the one who gets hurt in the end."

Alex glanced at him.

"After going through this once, I’m sure she’s learned her lesson. When she looks again, she’ll definitely find someone who treats her well."

Alex said all this intentionally for Dave’s sake, wanting him to understand that the person he didn’t cherish, plenty of other men would be willing to cherish.

In his hands, his own daughter might be considered as mere grass, but to another man, she might be a treasure.

After Alex finished speaking, he shifted his attention to the little girl on the carousel, ignoring Dave.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Dave turn around and walk out, pulling out a cigarette to smoke.

Alex felt a sense of relief inside.

He knew that his words had been harsh and difficult for Dave to hear.

Men often have a strong sense of possessiveness, especially someone as proud and arrogant as him. Even though he didn’t like his daughter and had already divorced her, hearing that she could soon have a new partner surely didn’t sit well with him.

Dave stood outside for a while, smoking two cigarettes, before the swirling negative emotions inside him calmed down. He thought about the books he could read, many of which were more stable and faster updated than typical novel websites, and without any ads.

The reason he thought of these negative emotions was that after hearing Alex’s words, his mind kept wondering what methods he could use to destroy her next relationship.

For instance, constantly having their daughter bother her, investigating the new man’s background and destroying him, telling the man that she was once his woman, or even going so far as to forcibly re-marry her and give her the label of a married woman.

He knew that these thoughts were despicable, shameful.

But in that moment, he couldn’t control himself, so he went outside to smoke to suppress them.

He regretted it.

He regretted not letting his daughter stay with Laurent. If she had been with her, at least if she started a new relationship, the men might think twice about pursuing her, considering that she had a child.

But now, when she went out and said she had never been married, some people would believe her.

After all, whether it was her figure, her looks, or her demeanor, she didn’t resemble a woman who had been married and had a three-year-old child.

When she smiled brightly, with a slight curve of her lips, her eyes sparkling, she hardly seemed like a married woman; she looked more like a young girl.

Because of Alex’s phone call, the two men didn’t exchange any words for the rest of the morning.

Alex didn’t want to speak to him, while Dave had no mood to talk to Alex.

Alex, being older, grew tired after playing with the little girl on a few amusement rides and sat down on a nearby bench to rest.

Dave was alone with his daughter. When the little girl, tired from playing, sat down to drink water, she suddenly asked him,

"Daddy, what time is it?"

Dave glanced at his watch.

"It’s eleven o’clock."

Then he asked his daughter,

"Why do you ask?"

The little girl swung her legs and told him,

"Mommy said we should go home early for lunch, and in the afternoon, we’re going to see my little brother."

Dave furrowed his brow.

"Little brother? Whose?"

After finishing her water, the little girl handed the bottle to him.

"Vivi Aunty just had a little brother yesterday, and Mommy said we’re going to see him this afternoon."

When the little girl explained, Dave immediately understood. The "Vivi Aunty" she referred to was Vivian.

He knew that Vivian was pregnant and due to give birth soon. Before the divorce, Laurent had mentioned it to him.

After thinking for a moment, he asked his daughter,

"So, that means your mom is going to the county town this afternoon too?"

The little girl nodded,

"Yeah, Mommy said there’s a bus to the county town at 1:00 p.m. We’re taking that, and then she’ll drop me off at Lady Tiffany’s house, and she’ll take the 5:00 p.m. bus back."

The little girl eagerly told Dave about Laurent’s schedule.

Upon hearing that Laurent was going to take their daughter on a bus, Dave was furious.

"She’s taking you on that kind of short-distance bus?"

Why was she so stubborn? She knew he was still here, yet she refused to contact him and insisted on taking their daughter on a bus.

What would happen if she took his car instead? Would he bite her?

And didn’t she care about her own and their daughter’s safety? That kind of bus was dangerous!

His mood was already bad after hearing his father-in-law’s words, and now, hearing what his daughter said, it was even worse.

Dave felt a tightness in his chest, aggravated by Laurent and her father.

When he sent their daughter back with Alex, Cassy happened to be outside watering the flowers in the yard. Out of courtesy, she invited him,

"Thank you for your help. Why don’t you stay for lunch? Laurent has already prepared it."

Dave was originally a proud person, and he had thought that since his family no longer welcomed him, he wouldn’t go to their house to mooch off a meal.

However, when he thought back to the things Alex had said to him in the park—talking about setting up blind dates for Laurent and all that, along with hearing his daughter mention Laurent planning to take her on a bus—it only made him more furious.

In a fit of anger, he immediately agreed,

"Thank you, Mrs. Cassy. I won’t stand on ceremony then. I’m pretty tired after spending the whole morning at the park, and I don’t really feel like looking for a place to eat."

Since they clearly didn’t want him there, he might as well go and mooch off their meal to annoy them.

Besides, it had been a while since he last had her cooking, and he actually missed it.

Just now, her mom said it was Laurent who made the meal.

Cassy, "..."

Alex, "..."

The little girl,

"Wow, that’s great! Daddy, come in!"

She eagerly grabbed his hand and led him into the house.

The little girl knew that her parents were divorced but didn’t understand the complex emotions between the adults. She just knew that there was food ready at home, and it was a perfect opportunity for her dad to eat.

Dave couldn’t help but think, truly, she was his daughter.
