Chapter 88: Chapter 88- loyalty

On the other end, Morrison was so shocked his jaw practically dropped. He exaggeratedly shouted,

"Say that again? Did I hear you right?"

"You heard me right!"

Dave gritted his teeth, giving a firm response. He urgently needed a woman to confirm something.

Earlier, when Clark was dressed like that in front of him, he had no physical reaction whatsoever. Instead, the first thought that came to his mind was the time Laurent had worn a similar style of nightdress. Back then, she’d teased him so much that he left his emails half-finished to hold her and make love.

This thought irritated him, especially remembering how earlier today, when he kissed Laurent, she had called him disgusting. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

So later, he deliberately allowed Clark to get close to him, hoping to drive that damn woman out of his mind.

Yet, before Clark could even kiss him, he couldn’t take it anymore and pushed her away.

That was why he apologized to Clark.

And now, this was also why he was calling Morrison—to have him find another woman for him.

He desperately needed someone to prove to himself that he wasn’t obsessed with that woman.

Morrison sounded as though he’d just heard something out of a fairy tale.

"What’s gotten into you?"

Dave didn’t want to get into a back-and-forth over this.

"Just do what I said."

"Well, you’ve at least got to tell me—what kind of style are we talking about? Glamorous? Innocent?"

Morrison chuckled teasingly.

"Or... how about someone like Laurent? Someone with a similar figure or looks, to ease your lovesickness?"

Dave felt Morrison’s words were beyond unbearable. Lovesickness? Who was thinking about her?

In his frustration, Dave snapped at Morrison,

"Anyone will do!"

Then, he hung up the phone.

This left Morrison on the other end completely troubled. The words "anyone will do" might sound easy to handle, but in reality, they were the hardest to deal with.

Laurent sat on the return bus, so angry she was on the verge of tears. Back when they were married, he didn’t respect her and treated her like an accessory—that was bad enough. But now that they were divorced, he still refused to respect her.

Did she, Laurent, really mean so little in his eyes? Was she truly a woman undeserving of respect?

Now she understood completely: as a woman, in front of a man, you must always learn to respect and love yourself. No matter how much you love that man, you can’t sacrifice your dignity.

Otherwise, you’d end up like her—treated as invisible, both in marriage and after divorce.

After calming down, she thought perhaps it would be best to limit the times she met her daughter for now. It was clear that he still harbored resentment toward her, still hadn’t moved past the anger and humiliation he felt when she asked for a divorce.

Whenever she met her daughter and he was present, he would inevitably act like he did this time—mocking her, ridiculing her, making her life difficult.

Why should she subject herself to such torment?

Even after the divorce, she wasn’t at peace. She needed time to heal herself, to focus on working hard and rebuilding her life. If he continued to torment her like this, she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to bear it.

Ever since she asked for the divorce, she had shown little emotion, always appearing strong, decisive, and unshakable. But who could see the scars and wounds hidden inside her?

Every day, she put on a facade of indifference, so her parents and friends wouldn’t worry about her anymore.

But inside, the pain was so overwhelming she couldn’t even find the words to describe it.

So, she decided she wouldn’t see her daughter this month, no matter how much she missed the little girl.

She had a good excuse not to visit—she could say she’d just found a new job and was too busy adjusting and learning to make time for visits.

Maybe in a month, Dave’s anger would subside. Perhaps his relationship with Clark would improve, and they’d get along well. Maybe then, he’d forget all about her and everything that happened between them.

Forget that there was once a woman in his life who had foolishly loved him with all her heart, like a moth drawn to a flame.

For dinner, Dave ate with Morrison and drank quite a bit of alcohol, feeling slightly tipsy.

Morrison had already booked a room for him and prepared what he called "women."

When Dave opened the door, he was nearly blinded by the sight of a sea of naked women’s bodies in front of him.

Along the bed were women dressed in barely anything, some standing, some sitting, and others half-lying on the bed, all striking seductive poses with lustful eyes.

Morrison stood beside him, laughing and explaining,

"You said it didn’t matter, but I honestly didn’t know what you liked. After all, you’ve never had women outside of this, so I thought I’d better get a few more for you to choose from."

Dave’s face darkened, the alcohol wearing off and a headache starting to form.

Morrison pointed at the women and said,

"Pick one. You can choose as many as you think you can handle for the night."

Dave was ready to throw Morrison out of the room.

Seeing that Dave was still standing at the door without responding, Morrison waved at the women,

"Lord Washington seems a bit shy. Why don’t you take the initiative and show him what you can do?"

Hearing this, the women immediately stood up and, swaying their hips, giggled as they walked toward Dave.

Dave instantly tensed up. Just before the closest woman reached him, he took a step back and shot a sharp glare at Morrison,

"Enjoy them yourself!"

Then he turned and left without looking back.

Morrison watched the direction in which Dave had left, stroking his chin with a meaningful smile.

In reality, a man’s loyalty doesn’t come from his body, but from his heart.

Any man, when faced with a seductive, alluring woman who is experienced in affairs of the flesh, will naturally have a physiological reaction. But it all depends on his heart—whether he is willing to indulge himself or not.

If a man harbors someone in his heart, thinking of her and caring about her, wanting to remain faithful to her, loyalty will naturally follow.

But if he doesn’t care about that woman at all, then loyalty doesn’t matter. As long as there is a woman who can bring him pleasure, he will enjoy it.
