Chapter 776: Experiment gone wrong, again?

As Xiaoyun parked his car right in front of the ’pawn shop’, ten different people in lab coats were standing right outside.

"Governor!"

One of the senior scientists immediately recognized him the moment he stepped out of the car, causing all of them to turn around.

"Where’s Tianci?"

"She’s inside the lab right now. Governor, you can’t enter the lab. She had ordered all of us to leave."

Seeing all of the scientists agreeing with her statement, Xiaoyun stopped as he looked back at the senior scientist.

"Why did she order you all to come outside? What’s happening in the lab that she doesn’t want me to see?"

All of the scientists looked to each other before standing there in silence, not giving a single response to his question.

"As the governor of Guangdong, I order you to tell me what’s going on in the lab. Or else I’m going inside and check it myself."

After a short standoff, one of the senior scientists let out a small sigh before confessing the truth.

"We don’t know what’s happening in the lab."

"Don’t know? How could you all not know what she had done in the lab? You all just listened to her order and left?"

Staring into their faces, they all continued to look down like a bunch of headless chickens, not daring to say a single word back at Xiaoyun’s angry face.

"Whatever. Just open the door for me. I’m going in there and checking it myself."

"I-I can’t do that."

"Why not?"

"The chief scientist specifically stated to keep you from going inside... She told us to tell you to wait until tomorrow morning."

Xiaoyun froze for a second before looking back over to the closed door in the distance. It was just right there in front of him.

"I said, open the door. Do you all not hear me?"

Despite his repeated requests, none of them moved. They all just stood there in silence once again, actively avoiding giving him an answer.

"Goddammit. If you don’t open the door right now, I’ll call the SWAT team and have them open the door for me."

"Governor, we really can’t open the door for you—"

As Xiaoyun drew a pistol out of nowhere, all of the scientists’ faces were filled with fear as they looked towards him in disbelief.

"If you don’t open the door right now, I’m going to sentence you to Treason... Don’t force me to use it."

This time, the group of scientists finally fractured as the younger ones in the back immediately switched sides.

"Liang Mei, just open the door. The governor is only doing this for Miss Tianci’s sake." The first scientist pointed out.

"The governor’s order is above all. We really shouldn’t stop him from caring about Miss Tianci." The second scientist chimed in.

"Liang Mei, no point in stalling it out." One of the more senior scientists murmured as it finally tipped the scale.

"Fine. I’ll open the door. But I’m not disobeying the chief scientist’s order. The governor is the one who requested it."

As Liang Mei gave in and started walking into the pawn shop, none of the guards standing inside with rifles dared to stop her.

"Governor, please be careful."

"I know."

The moment Liang Mei opened the lab’s front door, Xiaoyun immediately felt a hint of heaviness lingering in the air.

Walking to the metal airlock door, the heaviness had only gotten stronger. With zero hesitation, he scanned his ID card.

The metal door in front of him began to slowly open as the other door behind him closed, leaving him all alone in complete darkness.

"What is this weird feeling?" Xiaoyun wondered as the heaviness felt awfully familiar for some reason.

Going past the airlock door, fluorescent lights hummed overhead, casting a pale, clinical glow as he set foot onto sterile tiles.

"Tianci, where are you?"

Xiaoyun’s voice drifted down the hall, swallowed by the vast, sterile walls. The sound lingered for a moment—then dissolved into nothing.

Each door stood ajar, each space eerily still. Chairs sat neatly tucked in. Screens were dark.

The air felt weirdly disturbed, despite everything looking the same as it had the last time he came here.

At each window he peered into, there was no one. The meeting rooms were empty, and the testing area offered no sign of Tianci.

Cold equipment stood dormant behind glass panels, their metal surfaces reflecting his lone figure right back at him.

"Where could she be?"

With nothing coming up in Xiaoyun’s head, he made his way back down the main hall. This time, he headed toward the test subject wing.

"Tianci, you don’t have to hide yourself. I’m here to check up on you... Can you please just answer me?"

Through the test subject rooms, he once again returned empty-handed—no signs of anyone inside or any trace of the facility being used.

"Tianci? Are you there?"

A quiet unease began to coil in his chest. He had searched through almost the entirety of the lab, and there was still no trace of Tianci.

Only one area remained that he hadn’t looked at. The storage units held all kinds of medical machinery and items.

"Are you invisible right now, Tianci? Please, I just want to make sure you’re fine... I’ll go back home if you just talk to me."

"Leave me alone, please."

The voice coming from one of the rooms ahead immediately made Xiaoyun run for it. But a heavy sensation suddenly rushed over his body.

Every step forward was getting heavier and heavier until he reached the room where Tianci’s voice came from.

"Red vapor?"

Within seconds, his brain realized what had happened. Looking at the room number, it matched exactly where Tianci stored the red liquid.

"Are you inside this room? Are you okay?" Xiaoyun questioned as he tried to turn the doorknob, only to find it locked.

"I’m fine. Please leave me alone."

"If you’re really fine, come out of the room and let me see you... Or else I’m going to open the door the hard way."

Seeing Tianci refusing to respond, Xiaoyun took a few steps back before kicking his foot right at the steel door.

"Fuck."

He quickly shook the leg pain away as the steel door didn’t even suffer a scratch. It was way too hard for him to break through it physically.

"Stop. You don’t want to see me right now... Please, just wait until tomorrow. I’m going to come out then."

"Why tomorrow?"

Xiaoyun questioned, standing right outside the window once again as he tried his best to see through the red fog.

"I accidently opened the red liquid... But I already got it under control inside a quartz container."

"The room doesn’t feel under control. It’s completely red... Unless you show yourself, I’m not leaving."

This time, Xiaoyun’s demand was met with silence from the other side. Given no choice, his mind began thinking of ways to breach the door open.

"Tianci, if you don’t open the door right now, I’m going to blow it up with an RPG. Do you really want me to use explosives in the lab?"

"Please don’t do that."

"Then open the door for me... If you’re worried that the red fog can affect me, let me remind you that I was the one who brought it back to Luoping."

After a long silence, the red fog immediately started expanding into the hallway as the door opened.

Within seconds, Xiaoyun felt a pair of hands grab his arm, dragging him inside before the door was closed up once again.

The heaviness that came along with the red fog immediately rushed all over his body, but it vanished as fast as it appeared.

Ironically, the air outside was somehow heavier than the air inside, almost as if the more concentrated fog allowed his body to adapt to it.

"Tianci, where are you?"

Xiaoyun questioned, as he couldn’t see Tianci anywhere in the room, despite his eyes being able to see through the red fog perfectly fine.

"I-I’m invisible right now."

Tianci answered as her voice came directly in front of him, with her warm hand on his arm, giving him a sense of reassurance.

"Why are you invisible?" Xiaoyun curiously asked, both of his hands trying to grab onto the invisible figure in front of him.

"Y-You don’t want to see me right now." Tianci nervously whispered as her voice grew weaker and weaker.

The answer confused him for a second, but his brain quickly connected the dots as he remembered what happened to him in the past.

"Tianci, I have been in this fog before. I know your body is probably really red right now... I quite frankly don’t mind it."

Xiaoyun’s attempt was met with deaf ears by Tianci. Still, he was reassured somewhat by the feeling of her fleshy arms in his hand.

"I don’t want you to see me like this."

"That’s fine. I understand... But why’s this room still so foggy? You said you had contained the red liquid, right?"
