Chapter 134: Chapter 134: If Huahua says she dreamed it, then perhaps she dreamed it

His red fox ears twitched once, his tail stopped moving, and his eyes said very clearly that he could not believe she thought they were foolish enough to swallow such a weak lie.

"The dream beast god," Feng Yiren repeated slowly.

Lin Huahua lifted her chin. "Yes."

"The dream beast god showed you feet protectors."

"Yes."

"Because your head was injured."

"Yes."

"And he showed you this instead of telling you not to follow fish into deep water."

Lin Huahua’s face changed at once. "Why are you bringing that up again?"

"Because the dream beast god clearly has poor priorities."Mu Qingyi finally let out a low laugh, warm and gentle, and because the sound was not mocking her, Lin Huahua did not feel as angry as she should have. He reached for the leftover scraps of hide and began cleaning them up, sorting the softer pieces from the tougher ones while saying calmly, "If Huahua says she dreamed it, then perhaps she dreamed it."

Feng Yiren turned to him in disbelief. "You believe that?"

Mu Qingyi smiled. "I did not say that."

Lin Huahua pointed at him. "You are supposed to help me."

"I am helping by not asking more," Mu Qingyi said, still smiling as he gathered the plant fibers that had fallen across the fur.

Hu Baiyu, who had been silent through all this because silence was his whole existence, looked at Lin Huahua for a long second and then let out a soft sad sigh. It was not dramatic, not accusing, only disappointed in a very gentle way, because he had truly hoped she would tell him. His lion ears drooped a little, and the sight made Lin Huahua’s heart squeeze so badly that she immediately felt like a villain.

She almost confessed something.

Anything.

But what could she say? That she came from a sci-fi world and her father threw her into this simulation to suffer character growth? That her system was a useless fairy creature who liked telling her to use her head while doing nothing? That she had no idea how long she would stay here and also had no idea why her heart kept getting softer toward these males every hour?

No.

Absolutely not.

So she only reached out and gently touched Hu Baiyu’s wrist. "It is not that I do not want to tell you," she said softly, and because her voice had become gentle and her white rat ears drooped a little, Hu Baiyu immediately looked up at her. "It is just hard to explain."

Hu Baiyu’s eyes softened again.

That was the terrible thing about him.

He forgave too easily when it came to her.

Lin Huahua felt even guiltier.

Feng Yiren saw that whole exchange and clicked his tongue, but for once he did not expose her further. He only watched her for a while with narrowed eyes, and the look in his gaze said he knew she was hiding many things, but he also knew that dragging them out right now would only make her curl up and lie worse.

Mu Qingyi finished gathering the scraps and set the footwear near the warmer side of the cave, not too close to the fire, so the resin could dry without melting again. "Let it rest there for a while. You still have time before we go to your mother’s side for the night food."

Lin Huahua nodded obediently and leaned back on the furs, suddenly aware of how tired her fingers felt after all that work. The cave had settled into a gentle quiet again. The fire cracked softly. The air smelled of smoke, warm hide, fish, herbs, and the faint sweet scent of the resin drying. Outside, tribe life continued with distant voices, the thump of someone chopping wood, and the occasional cry of a cub being scolded for running too close to the fire pit.

Feng Yiren, however, was not looking at the footwear anymore.

He was looking at Lin Huahua’s clothes.

The animal-skin top and skirt she wore fit her well enough, but they were rougher than he liked. The edges rubbed too close to her pale skin, the ties were not as soft as they should be, and after seeing how easily her feet had been hurt, he suddenly noticed every place where the hide might scratch her. Her shoulders were too delicate for stiff skin. Her waist was too small and soft for rough cords. Her little body deserved better things, softer things, things that did not make her pout or secretly adjust the fabric when she thought nobody was watching.

Feng Yiren’s eyes darkened with thought.

Then he stood.

Lin Huahua looked up. "Where are you going?"

Feng Yiren did not answer right away. He only stretched lazily, his lean muscular chest shifting under the firelight, his red fox tail curling behind him as if he was not planning anything at all. "Out."

"That is not an answer."

"It is a direction."

Lin Huahua narrowed her eyes. "Are you going to do something bad?"

Feng Yiren smiled. "Always."

Then he walked out before she could ask more, his red hair catching the light as the hide curtain moved behind him.

Lin Huahua stared after him suspiciously.

Mu Qingyi, still cleaning up, glanced toward the entrance and said nothing, though the faint smile at the corner of his lips said he had probably guessed what the fox was thinking. Hu Baiyu did not bother worrying about Feng Yiren, because his attention had returned fully to Lin Huahua.

More specifically, to her ears.

This had become a problem.

Not a bad problem.

But a problem.

Hu Baiyu had already discovered that Lin Huahua’s white rat ears were soft, warm, and very expressive. They twitched when she was annoyed, drooped when she was guilty, perked when she was excited, and flattened when she was embarrassed. To him, they were not just ears. They were small little truth tellers sitting on top of her head.

And now, because she was resting and no longer busy making the footwear, he slowly scooted closer. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Lin Huahua noticed immediately. "Baiyu?"

He blinked at her innocently.

Too innocently.
