Chapter 114: Temporary victory

"I guess this thing got too strong with just a few level-ups, or you didn’t have much physical defense to begin with," Terry said. "Oh well, I should have know it better."

Undeterred by its wounds, the red troll roared with fury as it launched one attack after another at Terry. The young warrior met each strike with his new weapon, the black steel Destroyer, its weight proving to be no match for his resolve. With each clash, the ground trembled under the sheer force of their collisions.

Terry’s eyes remained locked on the red troll, his focus unwavering despite the relentless assault. He parried and countered the enemy’s strikes with skill and precision, refusing to back down. The power of the black steel Destroyer seemed to infuse him with newfound strength, and he met the troll’s onslaught with unmatched determination.

The other guild masters fought valiantly beside Terry, their fatigue evident but their spirits unyielding. Yet, as the battle wore on, Terry could sense their energy waning, the toll of the fight taking its toll on their bodies.

With a burst of insight, Terry realized that time was of the essence. He knew he had to end this battle before his comrades grew too exhausted to continue. Summoning every ounce of his strength, he leaped high into the air, his heart pounding in his chest.

As he descended upon the red troll, Terry swung the black steel Destroyer down with all his might. The weapon connected with the beast’s skull, sending shockwaves through the air. The red troll’s attack faltered, and for a moment, the battlefield seemed to hold its breath.

Terry’s first attack smashed the head of the monster, and after two more, he finally reached the heart and killed the beast.

"Now this looks powerful as it was supposed to," Terry thought after he sighed in relief.

As the dust settled after the intense battle with the red troll, Terry found himself reflecting on the encounter. At first, the enemy had seemed unbeatable, catching him off guard with its immense size and strength. The red troll’s relentless attacks had left him reeling, and for a moment, doubt had crept into his mind.

However, as he took a moment to catch his breath, Terry’s mind began to clear. He knew he couldn’t afford to be overwhelmed by fear or uncertainty. Instead, he needed to use his head and analyze the situation.

Looking back on the fight, Terry realized that while the red troll had been powerful, it wasn’t as amazing as it initially seemed. Its sheer size and strength had been intimidating. Still, in reality, it lacked the finesse and agility of some of the other foes he had faced.

As Terry looked around the battlefield, he saw his allies, the other guild masters, engaged in their own intense fights against the remaining trolls. They were relentless, using their weapons and magic with precision and skill to take down the enemy.

Feeling a surge of determination, Terry knew that he couldn’t stand idly by. He wanted to contribute to the victory and further improve the capabilities of his new weapon, the Blacksteel Destroyer. With a firm grip on the massive weapon, he charged toward the nearest group of trolls.

As the last troll crumbled to the ground, defeated, the battlefield seemed to exhale a collective sigh of relief. The intense and suspenseful atmosphere slowly gave way to a moment of catharsis. Everyone, including Terry, let out a breath they didn’t realize they were holding, feeling the weight of the battle lift from their shoulders.

But even as his comrades sat down, catching their breath, Terry remained vigilant. He knew better than to let his guard down, especially with the ominous portal still looming in the distance. His eyes remained fixed on the swirling vortex, ever watchful for any signs of movement or threat.

The battle had been intense, and Terry could feel the fatigue starting to settle in his bones, but he couldn’t afford to rest just yet. The red troll had been a formidable opponent, and the lingering concern was still that more enemies could emerge from the portal.

"This was intense..." Rebecca said while breathing roughly.

"Even though we are all at the level of guild masters, as expected... we tried to bite more than we could chew," Vanessa said while looking around the numerous corpses. "If things continue like this, it is only a matter of time before we face some real dire situations."

The intense battle with the red troll and its minions had left him both exhilarated and exhausted. As he replayed the moments in his head, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Vanessa’s words were meant for him personally.

Her words resonated with him, and he pondered the weight of his abilities as the guild master. The responsibility to protect and lead weighed heavily on his shoulders. He had always wanted to make the world a better place, but being the guild master amplified that desire, along with the daunting responsibility.

As he considered Vanessa’s words, Terry thought about the lives he had touched and the innocent souls he had saved. Each person represented a life impacted by his actions, and it reminded him of the sense of fulfillment he felt when he made a positive difference.

"We managed to deal with the trouble at hand, so we can afford to rest for a while before we move ahead," George said. "We can’t cross the portal in our current state... Can we?"
