Chapter 160: Unknown territory

Terry’s foresight in summoning these skeletal guards was evident. They were stationed within the tunnel to deter any potential threats. The sight served as a reminder that Terry’s strategic thinking extended beyond the battlefield – he was willing to use all available resources to safeguard his city and allies.

But the surprises didn’t end there. Further along the tunnel, the group encountered a new passage, branching off from the main path. This tunnel, distinct from the secret entrance they had used, led southward. It became clear that Terry had employed more of his skeletons not only for defense but also for that tunnel construction. The newly created path held a promise of unknown destinations and potential escape routes.

"And you say that I need a hobby," Rebecca said. "It seems that yours is to always think about the worst outcome all the time."

"It is very useful, you should try it," Terry said.

The group used their dark pegasus boots for a while before they found the exit of the place. The girls didn’t know how, but Terry employed hundreds of skeletons there and in just a couple of days, it reached the border with Mexico.

"Why did you make the tunnel to this side of the country?" Rebecca asked. "Were you aware of this group and didn’t tell us?"

"I just thought that it would be eventually useful," Terry shrugged.

Rebecca and Vanessa exchanged knowing glances as they navigated the newly created tunnel. Terry’s tendency to use a casual shrug to deflect questions was something they had become accustomed to over time. They understood that he often kept certain details close to his chest, especially when it came to matters that he believed needed his direct involvement.

As they ventured further south, the realization began to settle in. Terry’s decision to hide information about this mysterious group from them spoke volumes. It was apparent that he was not only prepared to face them alone if necessary, but he also considered it his responsibility. The fact that this group was comprised of humans rather than the usual monsters seemed to hold a particular significance to him.

While Terry’s intentions were clear, his actions didn’t go unnoticed by his comrades. They respected his desire to protect them, but they also knew that facing any threat alone was risky. The unity and teamwork they had built over time were vital components of their strength, and going rogue could potentially jeopardize the delicate balance they had established.

"Hmm, this isn’t half bad... we are moving insanely fast but flying would be better," Rebecca said.

Terry felt like sighing... while he could agree with her, women are always thinking that they can get something better. They asked him about the progress regarding that possible ability to the power suit, but so far, there was no progress.

Terry worked hard on that it would have been even better if he had focused solely on his own boots. In any case, soon he will automate the hunting process, so that thing won’t matter at all.

After hours of running, the group found themselves traversing the expanse of Central America while skimming over the water’s surface. The initial unease of running across the water gradually gave way to a sense of familiarity, as Rebecca and Vanessa adjusted to the unique sensation. The novelty of their mode of travel soon wore off, leaving them focused on their mission.

As they journeyed, their path led them into a region teeming with aquatic monsters. The presence of krakens, massive and tentacled creatures, signaled a challenge to overcome. However, Vanessa’s command over lightning magic and her disdain for tentacles provided a clear advantage against these foes.

As the krakens emerged from the depths with their tentacles poised to strike, Vanessa channeled her magic, conjuring bolts of lightning that arced through the air. The electric energy crackled, illuminating the dark waters as it lanced through the tentacles with precision. The krakens recoiled in agony, their attempts to assail the group thwarted by the combination of Vanessa’s skill and the raw power of her magic.

Rebecca, too, was not one to be underestimated. Her mastery over earth magic allowed her to create barriers of solid rock that deflected the krakens’ attacks, offering further protection to the group. As they continued to push forward, Rebecca’s strategic use of her abilities became a valuable asset in ensuring their safe passage.

At night, the group began to pass through some mountains in the middle of South America. They didn’t know how those were called, but that was a famous mountain range.

"Are we close?" Rebecca asked. "Things were starting to get pretty cold here."

"We should arrive in one or two hours," Terry replied while looking at the sky and seeing griffons there, completely unaware of their presence since they were moving too fast. "We could have hunted them here..."

Griffons are majestic and mythical creatures that combine the features of eagles and lions. They possess a striking and captivating appearance that reflects their dual nature as predators of both the sky and the land.

A griffon’s head resembles that of an eagle, with a sharp beak that is well-suited for tearing apart prey. Their keen eyesight allows them to spot potential targets from great distances. The body of a griffon is that of a powerful lion, covered in dense fur or feathers that provide insulation against varying weather conditions. Large wings with feathers, reminiscent of an eagle’s wings, are attached to the griffon’s shoulders. These wings grant the creature impressive agility and the ability to soar through the sky.
