Chapter 164: Offer

What struck Terry, Rebecca, and Vanessa the most, however, was the subtle use of telekinesis that seemed to be woven seamlessly into the work. Objects floated gently through the air, manipulated by unseen hands with a practiced ease. It was a display of supernatural ability that served to expedite tasks and enhance efficiency.

"The power of an overlord..." Terry said. "It must be convenient to have a base where everyone can use Telekinesis to some extent."

"What do you know about the powers of an overlord?" Gustavo asked. "It might sound suspicious coming from me, but we are only using this because we have no other option. The number of survivors in this area is too small."

"I know that you can eventually invade other worlds with it and share and obtain power from your underlings," Terry replied.

Terry also knew that overlord could create monsters faster somehow, but he didn’t know all the details and things are different from overlord to overlord. It was better to be honest then pretend that he knew and say nonsense.

"It is also possible for us to create a field where other monsters will have a hard time approaching, if they do, they will be immediately spotted," Gustavo explained. "The monsters like to have the element of surprise and they have good senses, so they tend to avoid our base."

"You learned quickly how to use the powers of an overlord, I won’t ask how you obtained it, but I don’t think that it was by coincidence," Terry said.

"Well, you are half right," Gustavo said. "One of our people is pretty good at sneaking around and found the information when a overlord was talking with another and then we stole the relic."

"The same person who was found by the guild masters and was supposedly incriminated by the third party?" Terry asked. "Considering their record, I wonder if it was by chance that they obtained such useful information."

"I suppose, but as long as we don’t do anything suspicious, we don’t have anything to feel worried about, right?" Gustavo asked. "Well, it’s my turn now. You guys have been moving around a lot and helping some guilds while also sharing that armor that you have been developing. Spreading such a powerful relic around while making allies, don’t you think that it is something that someone planning to take over the world would do?"

"That sounds like a pain to do, become the king of the world and then what?" Terry asked. "Force everyone to obey me and get pissed when they don’t? Killing humans for that would be too much of a hassle when they can help dealing with the monsters. We can’t watch the whole world as well, so letting live as many people around would make it easier to find new portals."

"Not when you can move so fast, the incident happened two days ago, and you took less than a day to arrive here, after all," Gustavo said. "Only you can say what your armor can do."

Terry could feel the tension of the group behind them, that spear woman was there and she got pissed when Terry mentioned the spy, so maybe they were related.

"You should know already, it can make us move fast, smash monsters with more ease, and take some more damage, what else should be necessary?" Terry asked while shrugging. "Still, seriously. I pity the brains of those who dream of world domination."

As Terry observed the camp and the interactions within it, he couldn’t help but reflect on the complexities of the situation at hand. The idea of world domination seemed, to him, not only unrealistic but also incredibly burdensome. The ongoing battles against monsters and overlords were already daunting challenges that required constant vigilance and effort. Adding humans to the list of adversaries seemed counterproductive and unnecessary.

Terry’s experiences as a hunter had taught him the value of alliances and cooperation. He understood that in a world filled with powerful threats, the best course of action was to stand united against a common enemy. Making enemies out of fellow humans only fragmented the resources and efforts that could be better used to combat the true threats that loomed over the world.

The idea of monitoring the entire world, as if orchestrating a grand scheme of domination, was a logistical nightmare. With monsters and overlords emerging from various portals, the scope of the challenge was immense. Focusing on internal conflicts among humans would only weaken their collective strength and divert attention away from the true dangers that needed to be addressed.

Terry’s perspective was rooted in pragmatism. He believed that humans had a better chance of survival if they could establish a network of support, cooperation, and shared knowledge. Isolating oneself and making unnecessary enemies would only hinder progress and exacerbate the challenges they faced.

"In that case, would you give us one set of your armor as well?" Gustavo asked. "You know, for diplomacy purposes."

"I can give you one if you help us find our friends alive, I can give you ten if you give me the relic that can turn you into overlord," Terry replied. "Naturally, I will break it in front of you."

"You can’t be serious... can you produce them that fast?" Gustavo furrowed his eyebrows.

Gustavo’s laughter gradually subsided, and he regarded Terry with a mixture of surprise and intrigue. The offer of ten power suits was a curveball he hadn’t expected. He scratched his chin, his expression thoughtful.

"Ten power suits, you say?" he repeated, his eyes narrowing slightly. The idea of acquiring such advanced technology was undeniably tempting, but there was a cautious air about him. After all, deals that sounded too good to be true often had hidden strings attached.

His gaze flickered toward Rebecca and Vanessa, who stood beside Terry with a composed demeanor. Their presence added an air of seriousness to the conversation, making it clear that this wasn’t just an idle offer.
