Chapter 201: Strategy

Terry couldn’t help but consider the possibility that the overlords had an ulterior motive. Perhaps they aimed to make him waste his time, or they were willing to sacrifice one of their own to learn his abilities. It raised the question of whether they were genuinely fearful of him, hidden behind a facade of arrogance and superiority.

"It changes nothing, but I need to be careful and I can’t show much of my skills," Terry thought. "Since they are being careful, perhaps they aren’t totally aware of my skills."

Terry understood that defeating the golem alone wouldn’t be enough to bring his weapon to level one hundred, but he was okay with that. He knew that even without unlocking new skills, he could enhance its parameters and improve his own battle experience. He was more than willing to put in the work to achieve mastery.

With determination in his eyes, Terry transformed his crossbow into a great sword, a weapon he was most accustomed to wielding. However, his concentration was broken as he watched the golem undergo a startling transformation. The creature morphed into a ball of crackling electricity, and in a split second, it charged at Terry with astonishing speed.

Reacting swiftly, Terry leaped to the side with all the might he could muster. But the golem moved with such blinding swiftness that it caught him off guard. Terry’s leg remained dangerously close to the monster. Though he felt no immediate impact, a searing jolt of electricity surged through his limb. His leg went completely numb, paralyzed by the intense shock, and the burn marks that marred his flesh were as vicious as they could be.

"It is lightning, after all..." Terry thought while looking at the monster stopping and then turning around.

As the monstrous golem charged toward Terry once more, he swiftly erected an earth wall in its path. The creature collided with the barrier, and for a brief moment, the wall held against the impact. In that fleeting instant, Terry swung his great sword downward with all his might, aiming to cleave through the enemy.

However, the golem displayed an unexpected ability. Just as Terry’s blade descended, the creature split into two, evading the sword’s deadly arc. It was a revelation for Terry; the monster could indeed be damaged in this state, even if it managed to avoid his attacks.

The two halves of the golem turned to the sides and began to move away from Terry. While the ability to split itself posed a new challenge, Terry could discern that the size and capabilities of each half were now halved as well. It was a compromise he was willing to exploit.

Both halves of the golem pointed their hands at Terry, unleashing devastating cannons of electricity. Reacting swiftly, Terry erected an earth wall to block one of the energy blasts, providing him with a brief respite. Simultaneously, he used the side of his great sword to fend off the attack from the other half, the electric shock coursing through his body to the point where steam began to rise from his form.

Though the pain was excruciating, Terry endured it and, as soon as he could, launched a counterattack against the closest golem half. But before he could strike, the enemy moved with supersonic speed, darting to the side and then merging seamlessly with its counterpart. In an instant, the golem was made whole again.

"This will be a pain..." Terry thought while making sure to keep an eye on the other overlords.

It was clear that the enemies were using the golem overlord to study Terry’s abilities and limitations. Right now, he had a bunch of limitations and no abilities aside from the ones his boots offered. Still,. Terry didn’t survive crazy shit until now to give up with only that much.

Terry held his great sword with unwavering determination, pointing it directly at the approaching golem. His stance was resolute, a silent challenge that left the enemy wondering about his intentions. However, it didn’t linger in contemplation for long. With a sudden burst of speed, the golem charged directly at Terry, closing the gap between them in the blink of an eye.

As the monstrous golem drew nearer, Terry’s blade was on the verge of piercing its body. But just before impact, an inexplicable hole appeared in the creature, allowing the sword to pass through it harmlessly. Before Terry could react, the remainder of the golem’s form collided with him, enveloping him in a shocking torrent of electricity.

However, something peculiar began to happen. As the golem passed through Terry, it started to lose its speed, as though its electrical form was being impeded. The troll overlord, watching from the sidelines, observed in astonishment as its body became covered in dust particles that refused to melt, even though the enemy was composed entirely of electricity. Not one to be outdone, the golem swiftly altered its form, shifting to magma for a brief moment, and absorbed the stubborn dust particles into its molten core.

"So, it is like that, huh?" Terry thought while smoke was leaving his hair and his body was covered in burn marks.

Despite his fatigue and wounds, Terry was not one to back down easily. With determination burning in his eyes, he transformed his body into a whip, the flexible form spiraling around him like a protective shield. While the whip spun, he focused his energy on healing his battered body, his endurance carrying him through the pain.

The golem overlord watched Terry once again, studying his adaptability and resourcefulness. However, its curiosity didn’t last long. In an instant, the monster fired another electric cannon toward Terry, determined to overpower him. But Terry had a plan.

Using his earth manipulation, Terry covered his whip with a layer of earth magic, infusing it with resilience and strength. As the electric blast collided with his fortified whip, the resulting explosion sent shockwaves through the area, causing the very ground to tremble. The earth around the whip melted under the intense heat, but Terry quickly shed the molten layer and resumed spinning his weapon around him.

"Remember the feeling... repeat in your head time and time again and then use it when the time comes," Terry thought.

The golem overlord unleashed a relentless barrage of electric spears, attempting to exploit any breach in the encirclement created by Terry’s rapidly spinning whip. However, it proved a futile endeavor, as the whip’s attack speed was simply too blistering for the monster to target accurately. Terry had anticipated that the golem might attack in this manner, considering its unmatched speed.

Yet, the golem had another trick up its sleeve. In an instant, it assumed its magma form, its molten body pulsating with intense heat. With newfound power, the overlord began bombarding Terry with magma bullets, unleashing a heavier and more devastating assault.

As the relentless magma bullets pounded against Terry’s whip, the weapon began to show signs of damage, gradually losing its speed and balance with each scorching impact. While switching to a different weapon might have seemed like the safest choice, Terry decided to catch the golem off guard, knowing that it would soon return to its lightning form if he changed his weapon.

The relentless barrage of magma bullets rained down on the ground, melting everything they touched with searing heat. Terry could feel the rising temperature, the scorching environment gnawing at his body. The enemy’s plan was clear: to overwhelm him with an unceasing torrent of molten projectiles.

However, Terry chose not to be deterred by the blistering inferno. Ignoring the discomfort and the intense heat that surrounded him, he resolutely began walking toward the magma golem. This unexpected action puzzled the overlord for a moment, disrupting its rhythm. Yet, the monster knew that Terry was inadvertently making things easier for him , as its intensified barrage of attacks only brought the inevitable confrontation closer.

At a critical moment, Terry altered the rotation of his whip. Previously spinning above him, it now revolved in front of him, forming a protective barrier that blocked the incoming attacks. The magma golem, realizing the change in tactics, responded by firing magma spears at Terry, momentarily slowing down his advance.

However, Terry’s determination was unwavering. Despite the temporary setback, he pushed forward, using his modified whip as a makeshift shield to fend off the relentless assault. Each magma spear that struck the whip added to its burden, slowing down its rotation, but Terry persevered, determined to break through the enemy’s defenses.

Terry swiftly called upon his earth manipulation, creating a protective layer of earth around his whip once more. With this added resilience, his whip became an impenetrable barrier, intercepting and nullifying every attack the magma golem launched. Determined, he charged toward the monster, his resolve unshaken.

The magma golem, recognizing Terry’s relentless approach, erected a fiery barrier in front of him, intending to halt his advance. However, Terry was not so easily deterred. With a powerful ground-shaking impact, he struck the earth beneath him, dispersing the flames and clearing a path forward.
