Chapter 60: Upgrades

Amidst the chaos, the air filled with the noise of roaring flames and the triumphant screeches of the fire drakes. They tore into the two-headed wolves with primal ferocity, their powerful jaws ripping through flesh and sinew. The wolves, once renowned for their formidable nature, now succumbed to the relentless assault of their fire-breathing adversaries.

"We can’t say for certain if the incidents are connected, but we can say for sure that the fire drakes attack everything that they deem weaker than them," Louis said. "It has been a while since something of this scale happened in our country, and more enemies keep coming. We will have to act and deal with them. Tomorrow morning, an airplane will leave the city; it is up to you whether to accept the mission or not. We also decided that only the guilds that participated in the operation will have the chance to buy the materials and use the portal once the enemies on this side are dealt with."

The other guild masters probably will accept that as well. They didn’t have any reasons to negotiate with those that didn’t try to help them.

Vanessa looked at Terry since she knew the kind of person he was. Still, he was more focused on the enemies instead of all the insinuations of that. Letting them run wild would be stupid, and they eventually would take over the country since they could use magic and could fly.

Terry had always harbored a deep disdain for the society that turned a blind eye to those without power. It frustrated him to see how people were often overlooked or dismissed simply because they lacked influence or status.

However, there was something that Terry hated even more than the flawed societal structure: the monsters. These creatures were the source of countless troubles and threats that plagued the world. They terrorized innocent lives, destroyed homes, and brought chaos wherever they went. They also were a huge part of the problem that made him live such a life...

Terry focused his efforts on combating the monsters. He channeled his frustrations toward eradicating the source of the problem, knowing that by doing so, he could create a more convenient world for himself.

Terry left the government building and then went to check with his blacksmiths... it seemed that they weren’t going to finish the next prototype in time. Still, that was probably for the best since Terry won’t have time to make it level up. Despite that, they were working at a faster pace than usual. They probably heard that something had happened since Terry went to talk with Louis during his resting hours.

In any case, Terry went to rest in his room, and soon Rebecca showed up, and she brought her noisy siblings as well. Since Chris was being noisy, Terry decided to swing him while he was upside down. The brat had spirit, so he fought back while putting his fingers on Terry’s nose while trying to push away Terry’s head.

"Another dangerous mission is coming?" Rebecca asked. "I guess we are going to get another branch pretty soon."

"Well, well. It seems that you have absolute faith in me; that or you already know what my trait can do," Terry said. "You have been paying too much attention to me, even though I am you guild master, that sure seems suspicious."

"I will leave that to your imagination," Rebecca shrugged. "I assumed that you would refuse work that Louis might bring, but it seems that the situation requires a bit more of all of the guild masters, and you know that they won’t be up for the task."

"Rather than that, I am thinking that it would be a pity if I weren’t to get my hands on the dungeon," Terry said. "Besides, I feel like I will learn a lot regarding the whole situation and how things started with this. This mission might take a while, so don’t rush to make things get ready here."

"You say that, but thirty more hunters are coming from Chicago, and they appear to be on the same level as the second elite team. Some of them also have good traits, so soon, things will be completely under control here."

Terry nodded; he got lucky in recruiting Rebecca. She was beyond competent. All he did was to fight monsters and give some orders, and yet, he could see the money piling up in the guild account.

"It will take a while to find all the enemies that invaded our territory, so like I said, don’t rush ahead and just for the news," Terry said. "I will depart tomorrow morning, and I will try to talk with you during the same periods; I might be busy at most times, so only start a call when something really important happens."

"Understood," Rebecca said and then saluted.

After that, Terry spent the rest of the time alone to focus. The area of attack of the drakes and their power was something else... he needed to be at his peak to deal with them.

Just when Terry was about to leave for the airport at four in the morning, Clark and the blacksmiths showed up at his door with their newest creation. The incomplete power armor stood before Terry, its gray metallic plating gleaming in the dim light. It covered his head, torso, and arms and extended halfway down his legs, offering a formidable layer of protection.

The helmet of the armor featured a sleek visor, allowing Terry to see his surroundings while shielding his face from harm. Its angular contours added an air of strength and resilience to the overall appearance. Adorned with intricate patterns, the chest plate exuded an aura of power and purpose.

The armor’s sturdy shoulder pauldrons provided additional defense, their sharp edges hinting at the potential for offensive capabilities. As Terry raised his arms, the gauntlets covered his hands with a firm grip, their surface etched with intricate details, both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
