Chapter 998: Pool of Wine
"How is he? Is he alright?" Pei Yan asked Ye Ruozai, who was examining Jiang Feiyang, after arranging the other team members.
"He's fine." Ye Ruozai replied, taking the oxygen mask from Pei Yan and placing it over Jiang Feiyang's face. Seeing his breathing stabilize, she stood up, clapped her hands, and looked at Jiang Feiyang, who was asleep with a silly grin, saying with a blend of amusement and exasperation, "He's inhaled too much alcohol vapor, which has clouded his consciousness, possibly resulting in hallucinations. If it goes on for too long, it might damage his brain. But it's alright now; I've used source energy to dispel the alcohol vapor. He should wake up in a while as long as he doesn't continue inhaling it."
Pei Yan finally breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this, then turned to look at the other viewing platforms. As further sounds of collapse and chaotic shouts emerged, it seemed many others in the arena had fallen prey to the same trick. The arena responded quickly; with a gentle light casting over, it adjusted again so no more fragrance of alcohol emanated from it.
At this moment, the arena had transformed into an ocean made from alcohol. While Pei Yan was handling the situation with his companions, the size of the arena expanded even further outward. Despite this, it still couldn't contain the ever-increasing tides of alcohol, filling the arena up to a height of over ten meters. Judging by its momentum, it showed no signs of ceasing its growth.
Di Xin and Ning Quanchen now stood on the surface of the water. Under Di Xin's commanding arm movements, the vast pool of alcohol was condensed with source energy, forming into a multitude of water dragons which roared towards Ning Quanchen. In their fierce battle, the pool of alcohol was whipped into chaos, with mist splashing everywhere, causing Pei Yan and the others to elevate their position just to get a clear view of the situation inside.
"What's the point of such attacks? They look impressive, but these condensed water dragons and pillars seem no different from higher-level magic. Will they actually harm Ning Quanchen?" Xia Yu pondered aloud, frowning as she watched the grandiose duel unfolding on stage.
Pei Yan shared the same doubts. After observing carefully for a while, he sensed something peculiar. He approached the edge of the arena and shook his head in disappointment, then flew higher and shouted, "Esteemed Elders of the Immortal Palace, may I ask you all for a favor to open a small gap, just a bit of an opening, to allow me to smell what's inside?"
The elders hosting the array exchanged glances upon hearing this request. A voice then echoed from the void, "Let him do as he asks, and grant the same request to others if they have it. Everything shall return to normal once they've had a sniff."
Pei Yan instantly knew who issued the command without needing to ask. With Lin Ruxue's instruction, the elders of the Immortal Palace immediately executed it, opening a small crack before Pei Yan. He adjusted his source energy and leaned forward to take a strong sniff. His face abruptly turned pale, his body swaying slightly, and he fell from the air without saying a word.
Observing Pei Yan's actions, Lin Daozi from the Daoist Realm seemed to have guessed something, and he made the same request. After taking a sniff, his expression became ugly as he descended back to his viewing area.
"Is there something amiss?" As soon as Pei Yan returned, he was surrounded with Zheng Jia Ru leading the inquiry.
"The concentration of alcohol vapor is still rising, and even the scent emanating in the air is already at the level of when we drank earlier." Pei Yan commented, glancing at the arena and focusing on the increasingly sluggish movements of Ning Quanchen, sighing, "This certainly isn't mere magic; at such intensity, it must result from the fusion of a divine artifact."
"Is the alcohol a divine artifact?" Xia Yu asked incredulously.
"The alcohol isn't, but the jar is." Ye Ruozai quickly realized the intricacies and explained, "It's similar to a divine artifact fused with a jar. This Di Xin himself is like a vessel where the alcohol ferments within him, while the jar he shattered is just a decoy formed from source energy."
"Old Ye, your speculation is likely correct; at this concentration, even holding his breath would be useless for Ning Quanchen. The vapor would seep through the skin into his body, and simply inhaling the vapor would have such a potent effect that if he accidentally swallowed a few mouthfuls of alcohol during the fight, sigh!" Pei Yan shook his head, lamenting, "It affects his energy circulation significantly, and one slip could lead to a mishap."
"Good things never happen, but bad luck does! Look! That guy Ning seems to have really fallen for it; he's starting to fight like a drunkard." Zheng Jia Ru remarked, gesturing towards the arena.
Everyone's gaze followed suit, and sure enough, just moments ago, Ning Quanchen had been showcasing methodical, well-formed moves while dominating the competition. Now he resembled a drunken man on the street, his techniques frequently flawed and steps chaotic, showing signs of defeat under Di Xin's relentless pressure.
Ning Quanchen himself had clearly realized this point. The alcohol here was far from what he imagined as ordinary, even his protective source energy couldn't resist its corrosion. As the vapor penetrated, his consciousness grew increasingly blurred, his body seeming heavier; every tiny manipulation of source energy or punch required over ten times more effort than normal. π³ππ²ππ¨ππ―πππ§ππΉ.π°πΌπ
"This is bad; to reverse the situation, Ning Quanchen seems intent on mutual destruction!" Zheng Jia Ru, watching Ning Quanchen cornered, exclaimed in panic upon seeing the fire igniting in his hand. Given the arena full of concentrated alcohol, a spark could transform the place into a raging inferno.
"It's indeed a method, better than waiting for doom." Pei Yan, having seen the scene, opined just before gasping in disbelief, "How can the alcohol not be set alight by the flame?"
Ning Quanchen had hoped the two fire dragons unleashed would set off an explosion, yet to everyone's astonishment, upon contact with the vast alcohol, no reaction occurred; the intense alcohol hadn't ignited. Instead, amidst the waves' assault, the fire dragons were eventually engulfed.
This reaction clearly caught Ning Quanchen off guard. His momentary lapse, compounded by the prior vapor's corroding effects, exposed a gap in his defense. Di Xin wouldn't miss such a golden chance; with his hand maneuvers, he commanded the giant waves to crash relentlessly onto Ning Quanchen, his body slightly faltered, and he was quickly swept down by the surging waves.
Following Ning Quanchen's descent, Pei Yan and the others lowered themselves to maintain a view, watching him as he struggled mightily not to succumb in the depths of the alcohol. He desperately strived to reach the surface, yet the omnipresent water pressure relentlessly pushed him towards the pool bottom. As excessive alcohol flooded into Ning Quanchen's body, his struggles gradually weakened until his limbs stopped thrashing, leaving his body suspended motionless underwater.
"Oh my! A Child of Origin won't actually drown in alcohol, will he? That would be absolutely ridiculous!" Wang Wenze, having recovered from his dizziness, removed his oxygen mask and stood at the edge of the platform, staring at Ning Quanchen in disbelief.
