Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 128: Walker Grant Parades Around with Sunny Reed
Chloe Reed’s lips drew into a tight line.
The road to filing for divorce was blocked again.
’How on earth was she supposed to divorce him!’
Chloe Reed’s head ached with frustration.
"..."
That afternoon, Iris Yates called.
"Tonight’s the auction, Chloe. Are you ready?"
Chloe Reed answered, "Yes, I’m all ready."
"I’ll come pick you up then," Iris said.
"Okay."
She got off work early and went straight to the auction house.
The venue was enormous, and many of the guests had already arrived. An auctioneer stood on the stage, and each guest held a promotional catalog.
Iris Yates held the catalog, looked at the sapphire earrings, and said, "The starting bid is three million, with increments of five hundred thousand. If there are no surprises, we should be able to get them for under eight million."
Chloe Reed also stared at the catalog, her gaze exceptionally determined.
Just then, a sudden commotion rippled through the crowd.
Puzzled, they turned to look, only to see Walker Grant walking in through the doorway. He wore a perfectly tailored black suit, his features handsome, and his every gesture radiated an air of dignified grace.
Sunny Reed clung to his arm, wearing a black evening gown, her smile poised and gentle.
"That pair of scumbags!"
Upon seeing them, Iris Yates cursed without holding back.
But Chloe Reed clutched the catalog tighter, a sense of foreboding washing over her.
’Why is he here?’
’And he brought Sunny Reed with him.’
Iris was still muttering curses. "Why are these scumbags everywhere? It’s like they’re haunting us."
Chloe Reed grabbed her hand, her voice strained. "Why would they come here?"
"Who the hell knows?" Iris shot back. "It’s like he’s afraid people don’t know he’s having an affair with that bitch, the way he parades her around everywhere."
Chloe Reed didn’t answer, her gaze fixed on Walker Grant with a complex mix of emotions.
As if sensing her gaze, he glanced in her direction, but his eyes met hers for only a second before he turned away.
Her heart sank even further.
Many of the attendees were prominent figures in the business world, and they all knew both Walker Grant and Chloe Reed.
But no one had expected Walker Grant to arrive with Sunny Reed, his sister-in-law, while his own wife, Chloe Reed, had come with a friend.
Such a complex and delicate situation naturally made people curious, wanting to probe deeper.
But the gazes that fell upon Chloe Reed were tinged with pity and sympathy.
It was far from a comforting feeling.
She felt like the spurned wife, forced to watch her husband gloat alongside another woman.
Those stares felt like a series of slaps across her face.
Chloe Reed found the situation laughable. She suppressed the turmoil in her heart and turned to walk away.
But Iris said, "Chloe, why are you leaving? Go up there and tear them to shreds!"
Chloe Reed replied, "My goal today is the earrings, not making a scene. There’ll be time for that later."
Iris was clearly indignant, but for now, she could only bite her tongue.
The auction began shortly after.
The auctioneer introduced the lots one by one. By the time the sapphire earrings were finally presented, Chloe Reed’s palms were slick with nervous sweat.
After the auctioneer finished his introduction, the bidding began.
Her paddle number was 30.
She immediately raised her paddle.
"Paddle 30, three million five hundred thousand!"
"Paddle 23, four million!"
"Paddle 30, four million five hundred thousand!"
"Paddle 38, five million!"
"Paddle 30, five million five hundred thousand!"
Whenever someone else bid, Chloe Reed would immediately counter, determined to win these earrings.
Once the price reached six million, the bidding stalled.
Chloe Reed raised her paddle again.
"Paddle 30 for six million five hundred thousand! Six million five hundred thousand, going once... going twice..."
"Paddle 50 for ten million!"
Suddenly, the auctioneer’s voice filled with excitement.
