Chloe Reed: "..."

She furrowed her lovely brows. ’Could it be such a coincidence?’

’The family doctor is away on a business trip while Walker Grant is injured?’

She looked at the pale man leaning against the doorframe and said, "This family doctor can be replaced."

’What is a family doctor?’

’They’re supposed to be a doctor on call 24/7 for the Grant family!’

’Their main priority is the safety and well-being of the Grants.’

"Mm," Walker Grant responded. He then coughed weakly a couple of times, his face growing even paler.

Chloe Reed was genuinely afraid he might die.

’If he died, we wouldn’t be able to get the divorce certificate.’

She got up and walked over, an icy expression on her delicate, pretty face.

Walker Grant’s tall frame swayed, and he followed slowly behind her.

Growing impatient, Chloe Reed went back, grabbed his arm to drape it over her shoulder, and helped him toward the bed.

Walker Grant tilted his head to look at her. Her expression was tense, her gaze lowered, and her long eyelashes trembled occasionally.

"Chloe, you do still care about me, don’t you?"

He spoke suddenly, his voice hoarse but his tone a touch gentler.

Chloe Reed helped him sit on the edge of the bed. Looking down at him, she said, "I just don’t want you to die."

Walker Grant, however, looked up at her and said, "Wouldn’t it be better if I died? We wouldn’t have to get the divorce certificate, and you’d be completely free."

Chloe Reed opened the first-aid kit, her tone calm as she spoke. "Walker Grant, I loved you for eight years. Despite all the things you did to hurt me, the fact is, I loved you. I don’t want the man I loved to die."

She was perfectly calm, as if only someone whose heart was dead could utter such words.

"Turn around."

Walker Grant froze for a moment. It felt as if a hand had squeezed his heart, the suffocating pressure leaving him breathless.

"Chloe..."

His Adam’s apple bobbed as he reached for her hand.

But Chloe Reed pulled away. "Turn around."

Walker Grant slowly turned around. With his gaze lowered, he said, his throat dry, "I’m not interested in that woman. I’m just taking care of Noah."

He tried to explain again.

But the woman behind him did not respond.

Chloe Reed finished cleaning his wound and changing the dressing, then left the bedroom.

She was unmoved by his explanation.

’Maybe he wasn’t interested at first, but people are emotional. Feelings can develop over time.’

’Besides, Noah Grant had said right in front of them that he wanted Walker to be his dad, and Walker hadn’t refuted it.’

’Why didn’t he?’

’Deep down, he must want the same thing, right?’

Chloe Reed gave a self-mocking smile, wiped her face with her hand, and went straight into the study. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

’I need to get to work. I have to focus on myself. From now on, I’m going to love myself properly.’

After three days of rest, Walker Grant’s condition had improved significantly.

The wound had scabbed over and no longer interfered with his daily life.

「Monday.」

Chloe Reed gathered all the necessary documents and stood in the living room, waiting for him to emerge.

He wore a black shirt, his short hair neatly styled. A coldness tinged his handsome, deep-set features. His dark, almond-shaped eyes fell on her face, and his thin lips were pressed into a tight line.

Chloe Reed clutched the documents in her hand and asked, "You’re not going to back out, are you?"

"Mm."

Walker Grant replied.

After that, the two of them headed to the Civil Affairs Bureau together.

On the way, Walker Grant’s phone rang, and Chloe Reed’s heart leaped into her throat.

She looked at him warily. "Don’t tell me you have another work emergency and have to go on a business trip!"
