Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Slapped

"Chloe, what are you doing?" Sunny Reed exclaimed, quickly pulling a tissue from her bag to wipe the water off Walker Grant’s face.

Walker Grant pushed her away, his dark, almond-shaped eyes fixed on Chloe Reed. "Grandma can’t be left alone. I’ll have someone take you home."

Chloe Reed clutched the water bottle tightly. "You can hire a nurse. You can have the butler stay. No matter what, you have to come with me and finalize the divorce today."

"You insolent brat!"

Charles Reed’s angry shout suddenly rang out.

He and Autumn Linton hurried over, his expression grim. "Chloe Reed, did my previous warning go in one ear and out the other?"

Autumn Linton took Chloe Reed’s hand. "Chloe, Madam Grant just woke up. You shouldn’t be saying things like this to agitate her right now."

One looked at her with reproach, while the other gently tried to persuade her to hold back for now. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Chloe Reed slowly turned her head to look at her parents. "Do you have any idea what he’s done?"

Walker Grant’s breath caught in his throat.

He grabbed her hand. "Chloe, I’ll take you home."

’A moment ago, he was going to have someone else send me home. Now he’s offering to take me himself just to stop me from talking about his vasectomy?’

Chloe Reed shook his hand off and insisted on speaking. "To take care of his older brother’s son, to carry on an affair with Sunny Reed, he went and had a—"

"Chloe Reed."

Charles Reed’s voice was laced with fury. "That’s your sister! How can your words be so vile? When has she ever had an illicit relationship with Walker? If you suspect something, then bring out the evidence. Don’t ruin your sister’s reputation with your baseless accusations!"

"She is not my sister!" Chloe Reed became agitated, her eyes rimmed with red. "Her surname is Su, not Reed. I refuse to acknowledge her as part of this family!"

"Why would we need your acknowledgment?" Charles Reed scoffed. "Your mother and I took her in as our goddaughter, which makes her the eldest daughter of the Reed family. You will accept it whether you want to or not!"

Autumn Linton tried to mediate from the side with a gentle voice. "Don’t be so fierce. Talk to Chloe nicely. She’s a reasonable person."

"If she were reasonable, would she be going against her sister at every turn?" Charles Reed said with a frown, extremely displeased with Chloe Reed. "I truly spoiled you rotten, turning you into this willful, arrogant brat. How dare you cause such a scene in front of Madam Grant? Are you trying to raise hell?"

He looked at the bodyguards who had followed him over and said, "Take her back home. Lock her in the old house, and don’t let her out until she admits her mistake!"

The bodyguards stepped forward to grab Chloe Reed’s arm.

Walker Grant held out a hand to stop them, his handsome face cold and stern. "Dad, Chloe just hasn’t been resting well. I’ll take her home. She has some misunderstandings. I’ll explain things to her, and it will be fine."

"I’ve done nothing wrong."

Chloe Reed, her eyes red, said, enunciating each word, "I want a divorce. I will go against Sunny Reed. If you won’t let me be happy, then I’ll make sure none of you are happy either."

SLAP!

A hand struck her across the face.

"Dad!"

Walker Grant’s expression darkened instantly. His long, dark, almond-shaped eyes were filled with a biting chill. "You shouldn’t have laid a hand on her. She is my wife."

Charles Reed’s hands were trembling with rage. "Walker, go on and spoil her. She’s completely out of control now!"

With a flick of his arm, he entered the hospital room.

Autumn Linton quickly said, "Walker, hurry and take Chloe to get that cheek looked at. I’ll go talk to your dad. He’s just letting off steam."

Walker Grant’s expression was grim. "My grandmother needs to rest. You should all leave now."
